    Basebuilding

I can imagine very fast iterations of different base building mechanics happening as it seems there isn't a solid design yet the devs have spoken about. Who knows they might even decide later that "complete security" is the only way to make it engaging and worthwhile. I'll be most eager to see what they come up with.

    Opinions on culldistances

As it stands I believe only grass and certain bushes are not rendered past player render distance. Player's will begin to disappear before object view distance does. As shown here: So the issue is more about grass itself and being able to spot people proning in grass when grass isn't even rendered. Arma 3 has a system where player models "sink" into the ground when they are proning to simulate occlusion of grass (as if it was there). Here it is in action on old dayz versions, not sure if it still exists ingame. (Don't believe it does) https://imgur.com/a/YEf6M Here's another possible solution. https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/140105-rendering-grass-at-long-distances-my-thoughts-about-it/ Lots of ideas and discussions about this from the past but its great to bring it up again.
  3. I reckon if your initial shots were on target you would have downed him and lived. This is just another matter of spraying while moving habit that results in you missing tons of shots. Notice how the first guy doesn't move, and hits you right on, on his first shot.

DAYZ Status from a famous Youtube blogger

Lets not forget it isn't a team comprising of 80-90 programmers. You have about 20-40 QA testers, art and sound designers, business managers, brand managers, pr and more that don't explicitly work on the engine. Eugen said that statistic also comprises of external sources too. Not entirely sure what that means but it could be things like outsourcing art assets and what not.

I'm not arguing that they made promises, but rather not give us enough information on their progress on .63 and how close it is to release. No definite "checklist" of things to be completed for .63 which led the community to inevitably decipher it by the way the devs word their status reports or tweet about .63 on twitter. I mean this year was sorta just "looking forward to .63" without much information on what was required for it to be ready. A couple of status reports even introduced new features that we didn't even know they wanted to put in .63. Which sorta gives the feeling that the end just keeps moving further away. I personally got no problem with it, but this is what i think a lot of people feel when following their progress.

DAYZ Status from a famous Youtube blogger

Yeah I understood that all they've alluded to was a "possible" .63 this year, but the problem was anybody outside of their development team would have no idea how close things are to release. It went from "possible .63 update this year" mid this year to "sorry couldn't make it" on the last month of the year (this is just how i felt). So between that period there was no way of grasping the progress they have made because we were never given a definite "checklist" of things they have to complete for .63. Their status reports mainly consisted of things they've done, or what they have been working on that week. Sometimes it would seem like .63 is right around the corner, or sometimes its completely out of reach. However now that their last report has given us a definite checklist i'm sure subsequent status reports will let us feel how much they have progressed in completing that checklist.

I know a lot of people will try to downplay this but the devs promised themselves that they would try to release .63 this year. Two major updates: .62 and possibly .63. I mean the entire year was #inbetawetrustdeliverwemust. I'm fine with waiting a little longer but i'm sure the devs were disappointed more that they couldn't get it out.

Ah i see what you mean. But i think this issue stems more from us as the community and the nature of things getting boring after a very long time. Like no matter how big the highs are from any game it will always eventually get boring. Not to mention DayZ is a sandbox game which usually means goals being set by players with the tools given by the game. But I do agree it's been awhile since an overall change in gameplay has happened like different spawn points, loot distribution etc. I remember there were several iterations of those changes that were very simple but affected a lot on how we played the game. ie: lootsplosions meant more pvp, no food meant hunting, and community outrage etc. But when it comes to vanilla dayz experience the devs will most likely settle on one design eventually and we'll naturally crave a change (through modding or other means).

If you were here during patches .30-.55. it was pretty much content after content and it was good. But because of the developers change in focus on internal systems like the sound, renderer, anim system its only natural that you'll get less content related updates. All gameplay side content and features have to be scripted on their new enscript system which isn't in stable only in their internal builds. Also i highly anticipate an underwhelming .63 release will happen just because of the cynical natural of gamers nowadays. Not to mention the huge long wait, people are never going to be satisfied. But whether or not it will be the "last nail" is highly speculative.

    Limiting direction change when sprinting

@Dancing.Russian.Man I'm a bit doubtful about their inertia design (or lack thereof) because looking at sprinting in doors, its impossible to make those sharp turns without stopping. I really think if they just had a normal "traditional" inertia system that it would still work and fit well. Especially when it comes to gameplay design a normal inertia system would force players to navigate slower allowing them to pay attention to their surroundings more instead of being able to fly through obstacles and what not. Obviously i'm basing this opinion of the current information given so hopefully i'm wrong and it'll feel good when we get to test it.

    Worn clothing shouldn't effect survivability

Yeah this is a bit tricky. Having this element in clothing but not make much sense irl. I'm fine with it affecting things like body temp, damage protection as its a game but there's also no element of psychology with it. Your character feels nothing, or acts like the conditions we force them into have little to no affect on them. Played Don't Starve Together with a few of my mates and realized how a Sanity meter would be so good to add as another layer of player>character interaction. I know there have been numerous debates with the whole idea especially with Humanity being almost identical and not having the game tell you how you should feel when you do something. But with a Sanity meter you can make things like dirty clothes, bloodied hands, eating cold food, eating expired food, getting hurt by infected, getting shot at, being chased by wolves/infected, night/dark areas slowly draining sanity, etc add a much deeper impact on your experiences playing the game. Just a thought i had.
  13. I think anyone who has followed dayz development closely would know the devs have alluded to the fact that they've made lots of mistakes throughout development. And that early access DID indeed become a mistake when they realized they wanted more than just dayz mod 2.0.

    Wells, and Forests

Yea i also get what you mean. I like it when maps give the illusion of never ending at their borders. Like impassable cliffs/mountains or dense/thick forests. Hopefully they can do that for their future maps that aren't island maps.
  15. Yea because cyber-bullying ISN'T a thing and those who claim to be victims of it should just get over it. And those who weren't able to get help and unfortunately passed were just weak minded... Get off your high horse mate.

    Status Report - 12 December 2017

I believe it's to do with data compression when sending over a network. Also a nice status report again team. Wondering if you will be able to move while prone shooting? Could tie in to having your legs broken and needing to crawl shoot away?

Hi, try this! Though i'm not sure if you're running a multi monitor setup but well try anything at this point. Direct link: https://steamcommunity.com/app/221100/discussions/1/350542114326908344/#c350543841946976088

    Ultrawide Screenshots

Not bad. Also looking at these screenshots, the game feels very "wet" doesn't it? Or is it just me.
  19. Seeing as you only joined the forum just last year I wouldn't be surprised if you are lacking the relevant information to make an assumption like dayz sa started from scratch.
  20. Arma, Arma 2 oa assets. Though they are placeholders, it still invalidates your statement. It's good that they have previous games under their belt to be able to not start completely from scratch like most other games have. Especially ones on limited budget that require outsourcing or third party purchasing of assets.

BETA Status Report - November 28

Yea that's sorta true, but then again if they had never started the way they game could be entirely different to what we'll get in 2018. Or if they had never made the mistakes then there wouldn't have been improvement. Butterfly theory and stuff.

BETA Status Report - November 28

This report albeit quite disheartening, has some solid info. I would assume this is literally their project plan for next year? (yes) So this major patch is going to feel like what it was like when sa came out only the tech will be 200x better but we'll have less content than 62 but itll trickle in over the year. Also how is the new site going? Would you format the stuff in the status report and put it in something like that version time line on the current dayz site?
