  1. I feel that the dev team should be addressing the fundamentals first, I think this is why we're seeing so much annoyance at the perpetual alpha stage (from the mod to the SA). In a zombie survival game, we all want the zombies to be a threat, we want them to roam in large numbers and not to bug out or clip through walls. Considering the progress on this front from the Mod, it's very reasonable for people to be concerned. There are still many more fundamentals like the physics that imo are a pre-alpha stage feature that should have been addressed before alpha testing, mainly because any data they're getting now will not be relevant when the servers need to do mass calculations.

    Morailty in gaming poll

I'd completely disagree with this point, when I do something I consider morally wrong in a game, it's not because I can get away with it, but just because it's fun. It's called moral imagination, I'm a vegetarian in real life but happily hunt down, kill and eat animals in all the games I play. There are no consequences for me eating meat in real life, I do it because I feel it's ethical.

Well just what subjectively is good and evil for you. I don't really want to get into a deep moral debate here, morality is subjective but I believe some kind of measure can be applied, especially in a cultural context.

And does having this moral imagination make you like Hitler in real life? :)

    Morailty in gaming poll

I think you make a lot of assumptions here, I'm not sure of any statistics that point to hackers being younger than the general gaming population. Then assuming that people who act badly in game, do the same in real life, and again assuming peoples actions are reflected in game also. There's no actual proof for any of these assumptions, it's just an opinion. What if bullies in game are the bullied in real life and just acting out their frustrations? I play a paragon of virtue sometimes, and I'm an asshole in real life so go figure :) I honestly did miss it.

    Morailty in gaming poll

I'm just asking how people play their games, I never said people should play a certain way, I'm not sure where you have got this from As for the poll, answering yes to every answer would make no sense, do you understand English?

    Morailty in gaming poll

These are my thoughts as well, I feel that having a moral imagination has no reflection on how a person behaves in their day to day life. It's fun being bad in a game because you know there's no actual repercussions.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to post the comparison to the general gaming community soon

    Morailty in gaming poll

Morality is difficult in a zombie apocalypse hey!
  10. Arrows could do more damage in a lot of situations, especially with the armour in the game. Kevlar based & bulletproof armour doesn't protect from large area projectiles like arrows so Vs an m4 it would do more damage.
  11. I remember they said the SA wouldn't have the same problem with hackers as the mod....
  12. Yes!, as were most people who brought the SA in alpha stage,
  13. "The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more features will be added to the software. At this time, the software is said to be feature complete." DayZ reddit So it's actually before beta, this is why people are complaining about the slow progress.
  14. This, I've encountered hacking quite a bit recently, but my rig isn't good enough to make videos of it so I refrain from posting. Simply go to youtube and type in Day z standalone cheat/hack and you will see TONS of videos of people cheating There is software designed to cheat in the SA that I know someone uses and hasn't been banned.
  15. Wrong, alpha stage should be feature complete.
  16. This is just a classic DayZ apologist chiche. You say X will fail but not my game Z, you make claims that NO ONE understands what alpha means. I'd question whether you do? Do you even know that at alpha stage the game is meant to be feature complete? I'm guessing not, because you like to make sweeping judgements to defend the game.
  17. I still haven't felt the core mechanics of the game have been improved, to all the people defending the time it's taking, do you even feel the core mechanics need fixing?
  18. No one knows if the game will be finished to satisfaction, there is no point arguing either way about it, we just have to wait. People who think this is normal progress for the alpha stage, I genuinely wonder if you have ever been part of an alpha test before, because compared to other games, this isn't improving as fast. Saying that, most alphas I've been a part of have had a MUCH better foundation to work from, this engine just isn't that great, which is why people are asking if the core mechanics will be improved, One of my primary concerns is the physics, which apparently is going to be implemented soon, this will bring a lot of polish to the overall game if done correctly. The other is the zombies, this is a very big concern for me, the 'improvements' the dev team seem to be making are minor adjustments, which suggest they may not be intending an overhaul of the AI and melee aspects of zombie interaction, again this maybe improved by physics. In summery, we have to be patient but I fully understand the concerns on the progress of the development and how the game will fit together.
  19. I'm not a fan of this early access model, there was a time before where alpha testers got paid for their work. I feel if a company wishes to crowd fund they should be more open and reward the players like on kickstarter. You get a lot of people saying 'you moron, it's alpha'. like they even know what the alpha stage is, if anything this game is in a pre-alpha stage as alpha is defined as "feature complete, that is, game is playable and contains all the major features".
  20. Needless doom saying? I said I thought progress had been slow, a thought echo'd by many in the community and one I base from experience. Having a concern about a game you are testing and really enjoy is not something to take personally, I want them to prove me wrong!
  21. Off topic, how is the gigabyte r9? is it quiet?
  22. http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/post/28904791570/the-end-of-the-beginning also after http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/09/28/dayz-standalone/
  23. I was responding to your point, you brought up minecraft remember? DayZ SA started at least from August 2012, you think that progress has been good and the completed game is getting closer, until I see the core mechanics (i.e. the zombies, physics, glitches, controls etc) I can't share your optimism.
  24. I compare it to other games I've been an alpha tester on, where are you getting your information from? After the Minecraft creator got the company set up, it took them 10 days to go from alpha to beta stage, from a production team WAY smaller than Bis. You do also realise that the SA announcement was in August 2012, don't confuse the date of the steam release. I'm sure you're an expert on alpha dev cycle times, but I'm concerned about the core mechanics of the game and the engine it has been built on, none of which has shown any improvement. Going through your past posts, you are just a typical person I was talking about, a complete apologist where the devs can do little wrong.
