  1. You basically described this forum when the game was very popular. The majority of the threads were about KoS or other trivial arguments. Even now the big topic of the day is boredom...I am sorry I mean 3rd person vs 1st person. This forum has plenty of problems with blind spots as well, it leads to somewhat thought out discussion but it also turns into a hive mindset that does not reflect most players of the actual game. Do not get me wrong I have always preferred the forum over Reddit, but lets not get to big of a superiority complex. This forum is stale for the exact same reasons the subreddit is stale, waning interest in the mod and not much to cover besides the same arguments over and over again. Lets see what happens once the standalone drops, both will get boosts in productive posts and both will see huge boosts of rage.
  2. Have they confirmed the no vehicles at launch? I know there was talk of putting in the current vehicles and then the team reworking vehicles from the ground up as development continues. People like an objective and even back in the day when vehicles were insanely rare it provided an objective (even though it almost always ended quickly with some group destroying your vehicle as you drove or someone stealing the vehicle as you were offline). The problem with "vanilla" DayZ is it did get stale and boring. With the resources that comes with actually selling the game the developers can devote time and staff toward updates and new features. Vanilla DayZ added next to nothing in a six month span and eventually people got bored with the same experience. I loved, I mean absolutely loved, DayZ at the beginning, but what was once fun became tedious after doing it X amount of times. I held out longer than most, but now when I spend time playing DayZ the majority of my time is spent in the new mods, maps, and on occasion the easy mode PvP servers where you can jump on for thirty minutes and get into 3 to 4 firefights. I do not want or expect the Standalone to match the variety of the mod, but if they put out a stagnant product that was not offering new experiences it would be a flop. From what I have read I am not worried about that outcome, the developers know that putting out a vanilla DayZ standalone would be a waste of time and effort.
  3. Just thought this quote should be highlighted again. You win the keyboard warrior award this week, all hail the king of forum arguments.
  4. Lol, if you want a discussion about zombie difficulty I am fine with that. It really has very little to do with FPV and TPV though no matter how hard you try to tie it to that discussion. Yes zombies are slightly easier to avoid in third person, if you are an experienced player zombies are easy regardless of the view you use. I am trying not to be mean with this next statement but your reason for wanting only FPV is one of the most flawed posts I have seen on this thread. It boils down to the fact that your friends do not like it so you are forced to play TPV servers, that is not a valid argument. Some people will undoubtedly be upset with the direction of the standalone, I will not be among that group regardless of how TPV pans out. I suspect it will stay and as a compromise to those who really feel it is gamebreaking I hope their is some server side options that cater to this group. The developers have the final say on that matter though, besides offering some feedback we are currently at their mercy in regards to these issues. DayZ is different from Arma and while I love the modding community that BIS supports in terrific fashion I understand the standalone will take a different path from the Arma series. I am fine with that, but some variety is fine in the standalone especially in regards to certain features. If it pans out differently I will not whine, hopefully the FPV proponents can take the same approach.

Where will dayz be in ten years?

A fond memory like many games before. Back II the Future reference, man I am old. They still have one and a half years until 2015, maybe we will get there.
  6. Fraggle, Of course it should be looked at and when possible adjusted to avoid the issues most of us are well aware exist in third person perspective. I have never seen a third person game where these "exploits" are not available though so I am not super confident they will ever be adequately addressed for those who dislike third person, that is why there should be some server choice allowed if third person is carried over to the standalone. One of the reasons I normally avoid third person shooters is due to these very issues, but DayZ is not a pure shooter and the majority of your time is spent running around an environment fighting zombies and not other players. I am not the type to throw a fit over minor changes and would not even rage if TPV was removed from the standalone. In that case I would state my preference for its inclusion, but it would not "break" the game it would just be slightly less visually appealing and after a short adjustment I probably would not even mind. I would even encourage the developers to continue testing fixes to TPV during the development process, but hopefully not at the expense of a release date (I am incredibly selfish there). I showed some rage toward a specific attitude that is more prevalent with the FPV proponents but not exclusive, besides that I am always open for changes and discussions.
  7. Not all options are created equal though. Allowing for the variety of the mod is not the experience Rocket wants for the standalone and under great duress I do agree with that concept. Initially it will be nice to see a standardized product, but subtle options for players is not that big of a deal. Things like crosshairs, third person, and nameplates (if those are even included, not a fan myself) are not game breaking for most players. For those that view them as game breaking their should be servers with these options disabled and I hope those communities thrive. I look forward to returning to a game that has consistency even though I will admit I really enjoy the variety the mods of the mod have offered. Most of us can agree that the current DayZ atmosphere has become saturated with heavy PvP servers with starting loot and most of us can agree that is not the direction the standalone wants to take. I find it comical that I am championing 3rd person when I usually avoid third person shooters. I actually avoided buying Arma 2 for some time due most videos showing third person combat, but for some reason I just think it fits in this large open world experience.
  8. Tommes You do not care yet you put so much emotional language into your posts. I have been playing this game for over a year at this point and the forum people while often nice tend to take things a tad too seriously. I have put in plenty of time into first person servers, I just prefer third person enabled servers (like 90% of the player base, this forum can run 100 flawed polls on the issue but the server stats do not lie). "I wouldn't miss playing with your kind anyway" That statement alone is just a giant indicator that you are in fact that guy, the guy who takes a mother effing game so seriously that he thinks he is superior. You take pretension to a whole new level, you are the DayZ hipster who thinks everyone who does not agree is some moronic noob incapable of seeing your shining logic. Notice how I have never criticized your preference for first person, it is because I am not a self involved child who thinks my preference should automatically be every players preference. Edit: I know I am being jerk but do not take that to mean I feel this way about all people who prefer first person playstyle, just those who take this specific attitude about their preference. I honestly wish that there was a bigger community for you guys to be a part of and hope that the standalone makes these types of server choices easier and more popular.
  9. Lol ashamed every time I use the enter key. I guess I am the one fanning the flames of rage. I do get the argument, but you missed the key point I could care less about the argument. It is a game and when 3rd person is enabled it is enabled for everyone. I am aware that even in those circumstances there are instances when you can get an advantage (say I am in a hallway and you are 3rd person peeking around a corner, even though we both have 3rd person you can see me while I can not see you), but I know that going in and could still care less. At least you admit that your perspective has lost so terribly that your only resort is to ban the other option so everyone can play your way, it makes you a sore loser but at least you have the stones to admit that. I will concede that you are more "hardcore" or play a harder game than myself if you can concede that you are being a baby. I have to enjoy the "Rocket said" aspect of this thread, Rocket says plenty of things I will wait for a hard statement or the actual release to worry about what "Rocket said" in passing during an interview.
  10. Watched the video when it was posted and read about 9 pages, in all fairness it was really long and really stupid, I avoided the conversation like the plague to tell you the truth. Just a little rant, we can all have them sometimes. I am nothing but adaptable and really would not mind some of the exploitable abilities of third person being removed. But I was talking about why people who hate third person are upset about it even being a server option. They are pissed off that they have lost so horribly in the marketplace of ideas and resort to banning an option instead of allowing choice. I get every argument against third person, still doesn't mean I will spend the majority of my time in first person servers. I just tossed a little gas on the flames, I really do not try to do it often.
  11. Wow 91 pages on this topic. Amazing since the solution already exists with server options (I know it has been said, but perhaps it needs to be said in all caps). I get the reason people who prefer 1st person are mad, their option is not popular. There is a reason most servers have 3rd person enabled. I know it is easy to exploit, I am perfectly aware that it can be cheap, and I am also aware that it is harder to play in 1st person. Want to know something else, I could care less about every single argument you make if it boils down to taking away choice. If you are arguing that people should give it a shot more power to you, I enjoy 1st person DayZ servers from time to time. If you are just mad that more people do not populate 1st person only servers and your solution to your self involved problem is forcing a perspective on others I say tough titties. The day 1st person servers are the most popular is the day I can be bothered to give two flying %#$s about the issue, until that day rage on because no matter how much forum bitching goes on it will never change that simple fact. Edit: Guess I made it 92 pages of forum rage, score one for the little guy.

    Dean Hall @ Pax Prime

The feature creep is why development will continue a long time after the release, what is holding up the Alpha is the architectural changes have not been smoothed out completely. From the last devblog it also sounds like they have not completed the extra portion of the map, although I am sure if the architecture was ready they might have released it without that portion and just added it in a patch. At this point my eternal optimism about this project is waning greatly and I just hope we have a playable Alpha before the Holiday season. I am starting to think that is too optimistic frankly so I feel your pain. Edit: Off topic my bad OP. just ask about Orlok's lego to see if you get a laugh.

Strange 'Hack 10000' in top right corner (HELP)

Battleye has a variety of kicks and script restrictions that pop up. Sometimes it is due to out of date battleye, sometimes it is the server owners not updating certain variables server side. Do not worry about the occasional battleye kick unless you have done something wrong, it is just part of the patchwork nature of the mod. I hack all the time, just yesterday I hacked a guy to death with my trusty hatchet.

ingame names and why you choose this one?

Well I wanted to be an irreverent asshole. Mission accomplished. Edit: Just to clarify my in game name is the same as my account name.
  15. Everyone knows that you refer to it as the Musty. I will take T Money's suggestion of a g-string one step further and say the swimsuit from Borat.

    Matt and Dean

The fun part is the speculation. Matt seemed mighty comfortable being ordered to take his pants off in the devblog for someone who just has a work based relationship. If the OP is 'Murican then there is no difference, just like someone from Argentina is a Mexican someone who is a Kiwi is going to be labeled an Aussie due to our culture not caring about other cultures.
  17. Lol, on public hives I used to fix up a car then drive around to find two wheels (or at least one). Then when I logged off for the day I would pop two tires in a secluded area that was not close to industrial spawns and carry the two wheels in my inventory in an attempt to keep the vehicle. Most people do not have two wheels on them and often do not want to go through the trouble of repairing the vehicle. You don't have to be a hacker to take proper precautions.

    DayZ Standalone?

And Half Life 3 will be released in that same span right?

1.7.7.1 pvp nerfing and opinable changes

I am not sure how PvP has been nerfed, I kill people all the time. The only real change is players are unable to just stand there firing around zombies without having to respect their surroundings. It has changed PvP slightly, but in my opinion it has changed it for the better. They scaled back the infection rate and the knockdown helps punish players who do not respect their environment. Before the environment was a joke (and they already hit through walls and were glitchy those are not new issues) for experienced players, now even experienced players need to be aware of what is around them when they engage another player. Died a few times to infection and have since adapted to the changes.

    DayZ Standalone?

I love this thread, it is proof that a lack of information can lead to wild speculation. Here is the short answer, none of us know when this game is going to come out. If you say you know for a fact then you are just blowing hot air. If you make a guess, fine it is just a guess no matter how educated. I stopped guessing when I looked like an idiot around Christmas, I was given a ray of hope with an invite (that was never followed up) and since then have stopped guessing. My favorite pathological guesser is Degrasio (sp), that poster has been positive on more than one occasion and has constantly been wrong. We have all been there (except the saints on here) but learn from your mistakes and quit trying to guess the release date.
  21. Hell yea I would, I used to find running around lost in the wilderness so much fun and would have extreme adrenaline rushes when confronted by other players. Finding even a moderate weapon was a rush and gearing up was a huge task. I set up tents with basic gear and slowly learned the map and made mistakes. My first vehicle was an insane discovery that I managed to stash away and use for two weeks by confining myself to the North East part of the map. Then the hacking and duping wave of last summer came and gear was abundant. Still a fun game (not the hacker part) but something was lost when people got used to having high end gear within 15 minutes of spawning. I miss the old days.

Who is Terry Crews? Is he like T Money
  23. You download commander. If it works like it used to you have to find the maps and updates from third party sites, so essentially unless you have some huge problem with DayZ commander I would just install that as your go to DayZ launcher.
