  1. The tractor is hilarious due to the fact that it will eventually explode due to a minor collision. Small rock in a field, explosion. Couple of shots driving past a town, explosion. It is sort of like the ATV and flipping, once you get in one of those vehicles there is only one possible outcome.

It looks like it is part of the updated DART community ban list maintained by Domistyle. Contact the user in this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/144647-dartbans/ or send the user a PM. Edit: Derp should have looked at the end of the thread to see you already made the request.

God this place has become a bastion of DayZ hipsters. Why is it that only Skat3rat has the ability to provide a helpful response while others have to chime in with stupidity. Edit: Cause I was being a dick.

Why We Need A Release Date

I do not deserve nor need a release date, but the last devblog was somewhat of a bummer because it still feels as though the project is far from complete. Zombies have to be built from the ground up and the network bubble architecture is still not finished. Asking for a release date now seems like a lost cause, any answer given will probably not make people happy because I am thinking multiple months not weeks. Others have pointed out that public dates and internal milestones are two separate concepts, I doubt that the company motto is "it is done when it is done" for the exact reasons Dr. Gonzo has pointed out. That would be a rudderless ship and would be a huge failure in effective leadership, but the public being unaware of these internal deadlines is par for the course. At the beginning of Summer I thought the holiday season was a realistic target, now I think we will be lucky to see it before 2013 ends. It is what it is, patience is the name of the game and anything else will just lead to frustration so what is the point. Edit: All of the people who think the concept presented is "bullshit" need to get a dose of the real world. People do work far more effectively and efficiently when given deadlines and oversight.

    DayZ Standalone... ...Let's Talk.

That is the secret to Fraggles post count, a bunch of "accidental" double posts. I also have it on good authority from a secret source that he spams cat memes in the moderator forum.

    DayZ Standalone... ...Let's Talk.

I get what you are saying about the sunny atmosphere but if you truly have been playing for over a year you probably remember weather systems that many servers did not disable when the Mod first took off. There was also this thing called night time, I know it is hard to remember with the current state of the mod but a year ago you would frequently have to deal with dusk and night time lighting and use light sources that added to the atmosphere (except the terrible flashlight, man that thing sucks). Development of the game has dragged and at this point I am not as optimistic about even a holiday season release (November/December) so I get the frustration. Most of us want the game as soon as possible, but deep down I suspect most want a good game as soon as possible which means a little patience. As always the game will succeed or fail on merit alone so we shall see whether the wait was worth it.
  7. Lol Miffy, as always you are incapable of looking into the things you complain about. No need to jump on you for the whole network bubble and optimization part since others already have but I will agree with some of the other posters and say you should not buy the Alpha. Wait a while for the polished release and save us all from the threads complaining about Alpha issues. I also suspect you are playing Wasteland if you are complaining about frame rates in Arma 3, so far every other mission I have run in Arma 3 has run smoothly. Was playing Altis life on an 80 person server (full) and for the first two hours after restart everything was running fine. It eventually started lagging but that is a fairly common problem with that many people and objects. There will probably be frame rate issues in the beginning, crashes, and other miscellaneous nonsense during the Alpha and it will not be feature complete. If that sounds like something you do not want to be a part of wait 3-6 months for it to exit Alpha stage. The one thing I will give you is the Zombie AI, it sucks that it is such as mess at this point and it sucks even more that it is going to take a while to get it sorted out.

How the hell do you suppose to know where you are?

Open the map with m and then shift left click an area on the map. that will place a map marker and after exiting the map there will normally be a waypoint with distance measured in meters. When you spawn it will tell you where you are at in the lower left hand corner (but quickly) and you will always be on the coast. The clouds move to the East and if you really want to lose that sense of being lost you can always check out http://dayzdb.com/map. Enjoy being lost and just get your bearings on the coast. It is a process to learn how to properly navigate but that is what makes it fun/infuriating. Try to take notice of points of interest and different buildings so the next time you are in an area you will recognize it.

Plus you can shoot down a helicopter with one. There is a video somewhere, surely it will be posted.

DayZ Developer Blog 7th September 2013

Watch the video again and try to actually listen to the audio with the developer speaking. You will have storage in multiple items and damage will only go to where you are hit. So if you had gear in your pants and are shot in the chest that gear will be fine. If you get shot in the head all of your gear will be fine. Finally pay attention to the part where he says damage values are being tweaked still, so while in the devblog those shots destroyed everything in the vest (not the entire player inventory mind you) that is not the final system.

    A post about the mod

Lol I was mostly kidding about the DayZ hipster reference. I have many hack kills in my DayZ playtime, just a week ago I caught a sniper with a hatchet. Sometimes I prefer a hatchet over an Enfield for close quarters since I just run around people and hit them when they miss. I personally hate the Enfield and double barrel and will drop both for a hatchet in most instances. Do you really drop the DMR for the Enfield? That is just crazy to me, the DMR is accurate and you can spam shots like crazy in close range. I was accused of using an aimbot the other day when I popped out of a car and spammed five rounds toward a player who just shot out my driver. Not saying it is fair or that it is not OP, just pointing out that it is very powerful gun with a decent sight and ability to fight in close quarters.

M14 Aim or MK Mod 0. Power mixed with functionality. The Lee Enfield is the DayZ hipster gun, no one truly likes it but it feels good to say as you rub your chin covered in week old stubble.
  13. Tommes are you trolling to keep this thread alive? It is a zombie related forum so it is not surprising that we can not kill this thread. I suggest a double tap to the head, no need to waste ammo in a situation like this. Edit: When we shoot this thread we should find it by hallway camping in third person.

Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...

Orlok pointed it out earlier that the way you phrase a legitimate concern is how you will be treated. There will always be fans who think Alpha means no criticism and there will always be those who find everything objectionable. If you want to have a decent conversation about a feature during an Alpha you should approach it better than the OP approached the issue. He also completely glossed over the information that was already available in the video. Instead of acknowledging that it was still a work in progress the OP pretended it was the end product and one shot will destroy everything. If they had approached the topic better they would have received a better response, instead they approached the topic in a somewhat moronic fashion and the OP was quickly treated like a moron. Not saying the OP is a moron, but being unable to comprehend the audio that goes with the video for the devblog does not suggest they are a genius.
  15. Can only speak from personal experience but I got bored with Vanilla DayZ for the same reason I get bored with every game, things stagnate. Mods and server adjustments kept the game alive (for myself and I suspect many other players) while the developers worked on the standalone and the idea of community development with R4ZOR (sp?) was still just an idea being floated. Had they got on community development on a larger scale earlier I could have seen the vanilla mod staying fresh for longer (6-8 months is a pretty long time for any game so I enjoyed it for quite some time) but in the interim many of the mods added content people were looking for. I can agree that many of the mods of the mod (dawg) were not great, but that is the nature of modding in the first place. You sift through a pile of crap to find the ones that work. For every 1000 plus spawn with sniper rifle YOLO Swag server you can find ones that make subtle adjustments that add to the game. I always found the NEAF useless, many servers adjusted to make the NEAF a decent point of interest by adding a couple of barracks. I do not think that ruined the game, it just broke the monotony of the NWAF being the only place to go for high end military loot.

DayZ Developer Blog 7th September 2013

Great devblog and like Orlok I have to keep my fanboyism in check. The improvements are looking great and it is nice to see some time spent on features beyond what we find in the mod. Hope it comes out soon, but as always I am more concerned with the game being good and those two concepts do not often match up. This is DayZ, worst case is it goes into Duke Nukem Forever status, best case is in the next month or two.
  17. I hate mods. Posted on DayzMOD.com Let the irony wash over you.
  18. I do feel bad for anyone who did not get to truly experience DayZ when it first came out and I can see why many people lament the loss of that experience. But for experienced players there is no going back. I am not saying that vanilla DayZ is terrible, I am just pointing out why many people are drawn to the casual servers, if it were not for all of those casual servers most people would not play DayZ anymore. People will blame the influx of CoD kiddies or whatever the catch phrase of the day happens to be but the real culprit is boredom and lack of new features. Vanilla DayZ gets tedious after awhile and all of that tension is replaced by boredom. I never found it that hard to gear up in DayZ, I got to the point that I found tents useless since a basic kit was always easy to find (add on the amount of duping and hacking back in the day and it was downright easy mode already). Without all of the casual servers everyone would be complaining about the lack of players or the lack of end game features. I have been saying for months both crowds will probably find something to be angry about in the Standalone, one side will complain that it is too hard while the other will call the new features gimmicky or casual. If they strike the right balance they can put out a game that is appealing to a large population that also stays true to the survival core of the game. I will admit I miss the real tension the game provided in the first couple of months, it was always a trip to fear for your characters life in a way few games can recreate. Edit: Dat grammar

    [SA] Multiple Characters

Here I was thinking every character was for douching around. Rest assured that if you see Zombie Jesus in a server he will be a huge douche. I see both sides, I do enjoy playing a throw away character and it would make group play easier since friends could keep a character in a certain spot and then use other characters when the group is not playing. To stop the WarZ (I am sorry Infestation Survivor Schmucks) scenario from happening they could make it impossible to log onto a server where another character is located. That way you would not see someone die only to bring another character into the server to kill you. Both outcomes have pros and cons and Fraggle did point out one of the biggest cons to allowing multiple characters. Here I come with an Enfield and a water bottle without a care in the world and I murder the fully geared role playing character someone else has spent a ton of time gearing up. It makes risk taking irrelevant, I lost nothing and have a fully geared character to fall back on. I lean toward not allowing multiple characters but in the end I will still find enjoyment either way it pans out.
  20. There are plenty of limitations and draw backs to both perspectives because it is not real life. A better peeking system for FPV is crucial and the biggest drawback to FPV is body awareness. If you are making the dreaded "realism" argument then one of the biggest drawbacks to FPV is the lack of body awareness and spatial awareness. In real life (remember you brought up realism, I hate realism arguments because it is a game) you do not have to see someone walking behind you to detect their presence. Walking by objects does not require as many bumps as you experience in FPV either, because we have a variety of senses that all blend together to give us spatial awareness and a better attachment to our environment. In a video game you get two senses, and often sound is flawed. Also FOV will rarely match up to a realistic FOV even with a slider. Maybe a three screen set up, but that is not an option for many people. Also it is not really a fix that is needed, it is just something you accept when you play FPV in any game. Much like you have to accept the drawbacks of TPV in any game that allows it.
  21. Crazy idea, read sarcasm. Derp. I think what is missing here is a couple of you (not all) are completely missing the point of what preference means. It means I prefer something, not that I think it is necessarily right. Many of you make logical points (except Tommes) about the "exploits" that third person leads to, I would argue that none of them are exploits but just the natural outcome of the third person perspective. That is why I normally do not like third person shooters, they always allow corner peeking and unfair camping techniques. For myself this thread reads like a long rant about water being wet.
  22. If third person is removed in standalone how will I ever get to witness all of these cool new animations like limping? I will never be able to check out my YOLO Swag that I obtained with my Leet 720 no scope skillz killz son. I worked hard to camp that hospital roof laying down but still retaining 360 degrees of vision to pop up and spam DMR rounds at some noob. That is mad skill right there. I am pretty sure that character is what many of you imagine my argument breaking down to. Man I am bored at work, hate working on Fridays.
  23. Been here since last June, not sure how you have managed to post at Fraggle level quantities in the short amount of time you have been here.
  24. For some reason I can not tell which side you fall on lol. I am just here doing my part to get this useless discussion over the 100 page count because lets face it no matter how many awesome arguments people make in favor of 1st person only the standalone will most likely have both. After it crests 100 pages I will never talk about this again, because it is an exercise in abject stupidity.
  25. I knew they wanted to build new vehicles from the ground up just like they are doing with guns but they were also kicking around the idea of releasing the standalone with the old vehicles and then updating from there. For myself it is not too big of a deal, but I hope the development of new vehicles is within the 3-5 month range instead of taking way too long. I think most players love the concept of vehicles but functionally they have always been a pain in the ass. They are hard to hide (especially when you add in esp) and are bullet magnets. I know a good amount of people who enjoy the heavily modified servers we see now will be unhappy with the standalone but lately I have been thinking people who want it to mirror vanilla DayZ will also be disappointed. Both groups are going to need to concede to the fact that things have to change in the standalone, otherwise it is just going to be a stale rehash with better window dressing. Since I am already way off topic I should bring it back by throwing some fire on this flame, everyone who uses third person are horrible players scared of playing a real mans game and anyone who wants to take away third person are DayZ hipsters who think everyone should enjoy the same horrible things they enjoy.
