    DayZ SA/BIS games. Slicker presentation?

I think ArmA 2's looks perfectly fine ArmA 2's looks perfectly fine ArmA 2's Wait, what? I get everyone has different tastes but the interface was terrible and there is a difference between minimalist and functional. They can be both but the words are not synonyms and for DayZ the inventory system was terrible.

    Less ammo = more KOS

I doubt the idea is to reduce KoS with one simple mechanic, the idea is to make players think a little harder about who gets shot and when. Right now in the mod I have no reason to expose myself from 300m+ with an iron sight M4, I can pop off a few rounds and if I get the kill great, if not I have six extra clips in my inventory. If gear damage, rarer ammo, and tougher zombies are an issue I will have to rethink that position and weigh the benefits of exposing myself to get closer versus the reward from killing the player. I doubt I would take a huge risk to kill someone with a melee weapon on the off chance they have some ammo that matches my guns in their inventory and if they have a matching weapon out I will have to plan out my shot very carefully giving the other player time to notice my presence. Even after saying that it is not a magic bullet to end KoS, it just has the chance to reduce it slightly for the majority of players. You will still have plenty of people who are willing to go balls to the wall to get the kill but many current bandits might have to play a tad smarter. I am not of the mindset that KoS is a bad thing, I have argued many times that KoS and banditry is what gives this game tension, but due to a lack of features in the mod and the mod being incredibly easy for seasoned players it is the only play style that works. The reason people hate on your opinion is due to the fact that you present it so poorly. You discount the fact that others might actually want features that encourage group play. You think nothing should be done when almost everyone thinks this game could use some compelling features to make it more interesting. The only way you can argue a point is to sit firmly in your own shoes and think about the issue from a very narrow mindset. It does not matter if the feature will not drastically change YOUR play style, it might affect other players and cause them to tweak how they play the game. This is coming from someone who mostly plays as a bandit and finds the KoS whining a tad excessive on this forum, your counter whining is just as annoying.

Of course I need eye candy, I am a dude.

    Day Z for Xbox One?

PS4 is more likely but it all depends on the success of the mod and the developers willingness to work within Microsoft's cumbersome system. As a PC gamer I welcome the idea of paying back consoles with a poorly ported version of a game.

    DayZ SA not being moddable

I get where most of you are coming from but does everyone here miss the irony of bad mouthing mods on the DayZMOD forum? One of the best parts of PC gaming is modding. I had to rebuild right when Skyrim was released and being impatient I bought it for Xbox first. Would check in on the steamworks page and get depressed constantly as I saw all the awesome community made content. Those who say "that is a first player game" seem to forget all of the multiplayer games that have been born out of modding. Lets just knock out the obvious and point to DayZ but also Counter Strike, Team Fortress, and Day of Defeat. Hell Steam would not exist if not for modding, yet I see PC gamers on this very forum complaining about one of the few companies that still opens up their games for modding. What is next, do you guys want a real money market? Any other attempts to cannibalize PC gaming that you guys can come up with? Do you guys hate puppies and orgasms too? Edit: Rant over. OP it will be released without modding support but further down the line might allow mods. I think this is the best strategy so the game can release and be played as intended for a period of time and then eventually modders can get their hands on it and make changes/maps/additions etc.

    Dean says...

Feel free to use the wrong term, but saying it is vaporware only makes you look like someone incapable of looking up the definition.
  7. What happens when the game does not allow the injection of scripts? That was always the problem with the DayZ mod was Arma 2 was built to allow scripting whereas the standalone is not being built in the same manner. I have no doubt that hacks will pop up for the Standalone but the hope is they are easier to detect and they happen with less regularity. There is an easy way to see if you are right though...wait for the game to come out and read up on the subject before making the purchase.

    DayZ Early Access on SteamDB.info?

Yes a rumor thread on the release.
  9. Zombie Jesus

    Get an Alpha out!!

I think you have way too much faith in the ability of any developer to completely stamp out hacking. In reality all we can hope for is hacking to be very rare and easily detectable. There will be hacks, the idea of combating hacking is making it hard to do in the first place and easy to detect when it actually occurs. If it was easy, every developer would have a fool proof system.

    Get an Alpha out!!

A very buggy Alpha is literally the definition of what an Alpha should be. This is why we can't have nice things. DayZ missed the perfect release window at the end of Summer. I am not saying they should have released to hit an arbitrary date but too many good games drop in the next month that would definitely overshadow a DayZ release. Some will say that is a good thing (dobut BIS sees it that way) and will allow the game to iron out any kinks without the unwashed masses making demands, but it will only work out if the game is truly great and grows like the mod did through word of mouth.
  11. Zombie Jesus

Seriously, they should've opened up a kickstarter.

Kickstarter is for companies that need funding, DayZ is backed by a developer that has the funding so why bother with a kickstarter. You would have people buy in before the game is out and it would result in people getting upset that the Alpha did not meet their final product needs. Kickstarter is for true indie development teams, despite what some will state on this forum BIS and the DayZ dev team are not really indie developers. They work for a medium size development company with enough resources to internally fund a project, no need to muddy the waters with a kickstarter in this case. What? It might be better for the players who have been here awhile but the company itself (BIS not Dean) does not prescribe to that logic. If they truly wanted this to happen they would not make a public Alpha, this is why it is taking this long because they do not want to release a public Alpha that causes too much butthurt. If they were going with a smaller closed Alpha and releasing an open Beta product your statement would make more sense for the initial release.
  12. Why stop there, I would have just switched on God mode because fuck being fair and playing and allowing yourself to die. What is this a game where you can lose from time to time? Hopefully obvious sarcasm is obvious.

Dean hasn't updated his Twitter in, like, days?

Sounds like someone has some personal experience with this problem.

where should we spawn in standalone?

The echo chamber effect of this forum is strong. Remember when the coastal spawns were disorienting and the only option we had was to follow the coast to landmarks? I remember that feeling too but after logging an insane amount of time in the mod it has become easy to navigate from anywhere. Lingor Island did not spawn players on the coast everytime and there was a variety to the spawns as well, but even spawning in the for the first time I knew how to navigate already and the feeling of being lost was never as intense as those first few play sessions. Essentially you are all searching for something that will never be reclaimed, you can not go back to the time when the game was new and confusing. All I am seeing is false hope of that feeling returning. Meanwhile the second I see even a small town I will know where I am at and spawning in the middle of the map is a dream come true. Beyond the fact that you will never reclaim that feeling there is the small fact that the standalone is not being made with only veteran mod players in mind. Coastal spawns give new players the opportunity to at least start learning the map so they can navigate better.

    Bizarro Servers of DayZ

I saw a Taviana server called fun with vehicles that has hundreds of attack helicopters and fighter jets. Even worse a lot of the vehicles had AS50s in the inventory and DMR's were like makarovs. I enjoy casual DayZ and mods of the mod from time to time but that was too much even for me. Although I did pull off one of my best kills ever by tricking a pair of tanks into a satchel charge trap (which you spawned with). I look forward to the standalone providing more to do in a more locked down experience, but shoot me now if it is just repackaged vanilla DayZ. I think both sides will whine considering how many additions are being added that many people might label "casual." I hope for an evolving DayZ experience that involves crafting, base building, and other pursuits besides just finding gear and then getting bored. To your mother.

    Dayz Standalone features

Unfortunately the DayZ wiki has been abandoned and the best place to find information about the standalone development is here http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/. The announcement section of the DayZ forum will also have the devblogs posted which can be found here http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/4-dayz-announcements/ Other than that most of the information you have is somewhat true while some has been abandoned or held off until they can put together a stable alpha build. I hope they only miss the initial mark of the end of 2012 by a year, but recently I have not been to optimistic about a 2013 release.

Why I'm buying the Stand Alone

I have offered HJ's for testing access but so far no takers. It seemed like it would work after I saw the Devblog with Rocket telling Matt Lightfoot to take off his pants.

Given your fixation with the Musty I would say you were born to play a 70s porn actor.

    Stand Alone Release

Came in here to make some jokes, stayed for the petty internet arguments. Grabs some popcorn and calls everyone retards. Just an FYI guys, I care and I will always care. Zombie Jesus cares about everything so let it off your chest.

Facts of patch 1.8 - loot is nonsense

Have not played the new patch too much but in an hour long session last night I found way too much food and was unable to find a single civilian weapon. Stopped at two pubs, three markets, two apartment buildings, a deer stand (waste of time), and around 10 houses. Not a single pistol, shotgun or rifle until I finally stumbled across a CZ (score) in a barn north of Zeleno. I love the new menus and really like this patch, but the food is a little ridiculous and weapon spawns were poor. Maybe it was just luck of the draw but I should have found at least one civilian weapon before my arrival at Zelenogorsk considering I ran from Cherno (skipped the firestation due to danger) and hit up plenty of civilian buildings. I can't complain too much though, that CZ led to a squad wipe for the three unlucky souls I caught at the NWAF.
  23. Lol 2003 called and wanted their argument back. Wikipedia is a somewhat imperfect source that has only become better over the years. But I digress, people will believe this outdated line for the next decade until they realize the collaborative effort of Wikipedia has provided a great and largely reliable source for an insane amount of information.

So what are you expecting if not KoS?

Think about how dull the game would be without that possibility, it would quickly get old if you did not have the constant fear of death. We can talk about our perfect game all we want but currently we are limited by the mod where there really is not much to do (unless you are playing a mod of the mod). So without that fear of someone being able to murder you at any time the game quickly loses any meaning. I played on a server once where almost everyone was friendly and it was boring within a couple of hours.. If all you want is PvE maybe you should go play a coop game instead of a game with PvP options (tounge in cheek I respect your opinion). For the standalone if there is more to do coupled with features that allow for safer encounters (holstering/shouldering your gun and restraining players) it will increase the odds of having a different type of encounter. There will still be plenty of KoS, but like I said earlier that is desirable in this game since it adds to the tension and makes decisions more difficult. Finally who cares what would happen in an actual Zombie apocalypse, no matter how much people want to discuss realism it is still a game with the option to respawn and will never offer up "realism." Edit: No idea why the post came through the way it did and too lazy to figure it out.
  25. Well then you are a better man than many. I found an ATV once near Kamenka near the coast, went ten feet to the train tracks and as soon as I touched them it flipped. I know better than to go fast so I was inching along and it still flipped. As far as the tractor goes I was engaging in hyperbole, I have managed to drive one without it exploding but I will say the majority of my experiences with the tractor ended in explosions. The tractor can be full green and even a small collision can cause hilarity.
