Third person view removal from SA discussion
Zombie Jesus replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Lol lets discuss something that does not generate such passionate responses like gay marriage or abortion. 100% kidding, I am not really seeing why so many people want to remove an option. I wish they would have released first person only servers on day one so most of the people could be happy. You will always have people who think everyone should play their preferred option but they would be easy to ignore since they already had the option to play first person only. Also I am fairly tired of seeing there is no valid reason for third person. Let me drop a knowledge bomb on you guys, spatial awareness. Third person gives you the ability to understand your place in the environment, first person does not. Games are never perfect and I am 100% aware of the exploits of third person, but here is the kicker, I could care less if someone I do not know thinks I am playing the cupcake version of the game. The only person who cares about an individual opinion is the person who holds it and those that agree, everyone else realizes that your personal opinion is not the end of the discussion. Just live and let live guys, there will be server options rolling out shortly and anyone who thinks that is not enough to address the issue is not worth listening to in the first place. -
please remove the barracks at balota
Zombie Jesus replied to outlaw1198's topic in General Discussion
Yea they really need to add some high level loot spots to the East and make it worth the trip. I love the new areas near the NWAF though and it is still worth the trek especially since Balota is picked clean by players on any server that was not restarted recently. -
DayZ is missing one extremely vital feature.
Zombie Jesus replied to linfosoma's topic in General Discussion
Lol that was always my DayZ character too. -
Yawn, call me when cows start parachuting.

Firemans axe a little too powerfull.
Zombie Jesus replied to Coldarthis's topic in General Discussion
Lets not and say we did. Balance is for FPS and a game like this with no character progression does not need to worry about balance. The only time things are balanced is when two fresh spawns meet, otherwise like life some people will have and advantage based on luck or effort. I actually like the fact that there is variety in the melee weapons. If you are a fresh spawn you will take that horrible wrench, but after getting geared up you will be looking for that rarer fire ax. From a realism standpoint it also holds true, a ballistic vest stops ballistics and an ax is not a ballistic weapon last I checked. Maybe the helmet from a head shot but if you want to explain it using realism then just assume the guy hit you in the face or neck. -
Just because you had a good run on a recently restarted server does not mean it is not a work in progress. Calling something broken in Alpha is pointless because a good deal of content is currently broken, but the current system is not ideal. Zombies only spawn once and loot only spawns once which means some players will find a great deal of good loot while others coming after that player will find next to nothing. It is a work in progress and pretending as though it is not "broken" is naive. It still needs work and I think it should be a priority, but since it is Alpha it is to be expected. I could care less if you have had ten lucky runs, they are still luck of the draw which for many players will be frustrating.
-
Like someone else said everyone has a different priority when it comes to what needs to be fixed but I will caution that they should leave it vulnerable for at least a short period to really test what vulnerabilities are being exploited in the architecture to prevent future hacking episodes. I know in the short term it will suck but long term it will mean a better anti cheat system. As long as you are not flaming I will never post not this again, people have legitimate concerns and as long as they are posted intelligently I think more people on the forum should be willing to hear them out.
-
You have to figure out the vulnerabilities and what is being done to combat hacking in the first place. Early Alpha often comes with no anti hack measures in place and that is a trade off. Hacking has turned into a game of cat and mouse and developers can learn quite a bit from examining the vulnerabilities being exploited and the best time to do this is during the Alpha. Beyond that I have not seen a hacker yet. I experienced a person glitching to get out of dying that to someone who was unaware of the glitch would assume was hacking, but I have yet to see someone actually hacking in the game yet. I know people probably are hacking and it will probably get worse before it gets better, but it is nothing compared to the early days of the mod which is a relief. Edit: My personal priority would be a better loot spawning system, but everyone has a different priority as pointed out above and the best I can do is hope that the loot spawn system is addressed in a somewhat timely fashion.

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
Zombie Jesus replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Well if you have been around long enough you would understand the point he is making. I started out fairly friendly and then learned not to trust people. Some of us are still capable of being friendly in the right situation, but if someone is in close proximity and you have been killed in similar circumstances more than 50% of the time only a fool would not learn a lesson and change how they play. Some people are friendly to the end and might give the person a chance, but most of us will just shoot the person due to past experiences. Here is a good example that I was a part of last night. As I said I tend to be friendly but my buddies are not. I saw a guy running around Staroye and he had a gun and me and the buddy had axes. He wanted to trade for some water but neither of us had any but there was a pond. We told him he could drink from it and we showed him where to get the option and when he went to drink we axed him to death. My bet is next time he comes across two people with melee weapons he will be much more cautious if not outright hostile. That is the progression of a DayZ player in a nutshell, starts off with guarded optimism and is beaten down to the point that they are either hostile or standoffish. Sure there are plenty of people like my buddies who will just kill for the laugh (and I admit I will join in on the maniacal laughter as we slaughter a guy shooting wildly), but most of the time you were killed by someone who probably started out somewhat friendly only to realize that being friendly often ends in death. -
Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
Zombie Jesus replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Not an official answer but my guess is quite a few wipes will happen during the early Alpha process. It is not a feature complete game and bugs, exploits, and unfortunately hacks will show up that require wipes. -
It would be shameless to just rip off the Rust idea, but DayZ already had a random loot hotspot with helicopter crash sites. Maybe take the idea of dynamic helicopter crash sites and run with that since it would not be a shameless ripoff from another game but would be pretty much the same concept.

Hive System - People are already server hopping
Zombie Jesus replied to mercules's topic in General Discussion
The current loot and zombie spawn mechanic is not the final product nor was it ever the intended final product. It is a placeholder as they work on a better loot/zombie spawning system. If I thought this was his end goal I would be pissed too, but since it is not and only represents one of many placeholders during the early access I can live with it until it is replaced. -
Suggestion: Spread out the military grade spawns
Zombie Jesus replied to whatup2003's topic in General Discussion
The new area South of Balota Airfield, you are welcome. -
Constructive criticism should always be welcome, pretending as though an early alpha build should be polished and balanced while being hostile about it should and is met with equal hostility. Some take it too far but being upset in day one means you should have waited to buy the standalone.

Limited copies of DayZ Alpha
Zombie Jesus replied to barrett_killz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I remember that too, but plans often change and it was just an idea that was being kicked around to open up testing while not overloading their ability to keep up. -
IS ANYONE TIRED OF HEARING "ITS JUST AN ALPHA" ?
Zombie Jesus replied to piffaroni's topic in General Discussion
1. Why did you pay that much for Arma 2, show some restraint next time and wait for a Steam Sale. 2. You are literally complaining about it being in Alpha on day one of the actual Alpha. The mod was the mod, this is the standalone. At least wait a month and if you are coming into the game with this attitude wait for the proper release and possibly catch it on sale further down the road. Or you could take door number two (which you have obviously decided to do already) and buy an early release game on the first day and instantly post about how you are tired of hearing that the game is in Alpha. -
I have always liked add ons to Chernarus when done correctly. Coastal barracks are not my cup of tea, but adding some high end loot points to places like the NEAF and the middle of the map makes the map more interesting. Vanilla Chernarus got stale after exploring the NE and middle you realized there was not much value to making those trips and people concentrated on Cherno, Elektro, NWAF, and Stary. If a server has some well placed add ons it can add points of interest that really spice the map up. The prison looks OP, but I would have to know the amount of AI guarding the place to really say it is or is not. If it is high risk then the high reward is merited. If you can just walk in then maybe it is a little OP (but who cares if that is what you enjoy that is what you enjoy). The NEAF looks pretty cool though with all of the additions, always thought that airfield was boring and desolate.

Standalone voting has the delay effected
Zombie Jesus replied to law1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True, but the forum is largely dead anyways so what does it really harm to allow for some useless posts as long as they are somewhat on topic? I can not dispute your logic, but I can easily dispute your level of giving a shit. -
Go to DayZ commander and filter for number of players on the server. It will not be that hard to find a server with extra vehicle and loot, in fact that describes the vast majority of populated servers. Just an FYI, you will probably catch a ton of shit from the forum crowd for your preferences.

Standalone voting has the delay effected
Zombie Jesus replied to law1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some excellent foruming going on in this thread. If the game is good it will be successful, that is all that matters at this point. They are not going to great lengths to hype the game up to inflate sales to people who are not truly interested, it will either grow or die by word of mouth and merit which is the way it should be. -
Loot wont respawn in SA???
Zombie Jesus replied to Karmaterror's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You guys all worry too much. Loot spawns can be adjusted and even if the Alpher is released with this system in place it can easily change as needed. I get the concerns, but these things are subject to change especially in an Alpha. -
Hiding stuff underwater in the SA?
Zombie Jesus replied to AfterShave's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't know if it still works but people used to hide tents in the water all the time. -

I resort to fisticuffs whenever possible. -
What stops people taking SA features over to the mod?
Zombie Jesus replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol, I love the mod but many of the limitations of the game being a mod will always be there. Hell I even enjoy a bunch of mods of the mod, but lets not lie to ourselves and pretend that the mod does not have some significant issues and those issues are why they did quite a bit of work on the core of the game to put out a standalone version. I used that particular phrase because no matter what you add to the mod you are still left with all of the issues of the mod. -
What stops people taking SA features over to the mod?
Zombie Jesus replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This. The best part of the standalone is the fact that it is not a mod. Performance alone is reason enough to ditch the mod in favor of a much more stable game that can run without massive FPS issues. I guess some people will stick with the free mod since it will not cost anything extra to play and I say more power to them. Some might even dislike the fact that the standalone is returning to its DayZ roots and will opt for the variety of the mod and once again good for them. If the game is good and has compelling content people will purchase the standalone and will be happy with the fact that it is a fully functioning game that does not come will all the drawbacks of being an Arma 2 mod. At the end of the day polishing a turd only yields a shiny turd (meaning the mod will always be a mod).
