Fix (not remove) Third Person Perspective

Hopefully this thread can remain constructive...but I doubt it. I would love to see some fixes to 3PP and frankly I have been having a great time playing 1PP since upgrading my computer. If people really want to know an honest reason many enjoy 3PP imagine having to deal with massive FPS drops coupled with DayZ's clunky movement system in first person. I am able to get around the clunky (best word I can think of, I do not hate it but it does not look that smooth while in 1PP) movement but the FPS drops made 1PP incredibly unsatisfying. I literally was unable to figure out the reason why I disliked 1PP so much in the mod and the standalone until I upgraded my computer and then a light went off that the FPS drops were making that view disorienting and head ache inducing. I do not even get motion sickness and I found myself getting a headache from running in 1PP for long periods. Beyond that I still maintain anyone who argues 1PP is more realistic is only looking at half the issue since it is not realistic to have that little connection to ones body. I will say first person is more difficult, but both perspectives have drawbacks as far as realism is concerned. As far as the fixes, I would love it if you were unable to see objects, players, or zombies that were out of your direct LOS. I would love a force to first person whenever a player goes prone. Anyone who can not live with those fixes probably is too dependent on the "exploits" of third person. Hopefully they can put something in place to please the vast majority of the player base (although I am happy with the current situation of server options) and just ignore the vocal minority who will never be happy on either side of the debate.

Lets make it a little easier for the Devs

Inappropriate thoughts? Lol, I think most of that list are well known issues that are a priority. Some will be fixed sooner rather than later and some will naturally roll out with patches. More weapons should not be a concern since that is an ongoing process that really will not cut into the other areas of development. But if pinned down I would love to see better Zombie pathfinding, increase the amount of zombies, change loot spawning mechanics, and a fix for combat logging. Those will all take time though so not in a huge rush. Mostly posted for the innuendo.
  5. Yes I am well aware of that quote from Rocket and I would be fine with them tweaking 3PP to remove certain exploits (things like corner camping will always happen with 3PP though). I even mentioned that I would love to see a force to first person any time a player goes prone to get rid of 3PP camping on roofs and hills. The problem I have with you is your insufferable tone over the many pages of this topic and previous topics. Nobody gives a shit that you think the community will be split because that is a stupid argument on face value. I could care less that certain people play on servers with different settings, I can not even think of a legitimate argument against that being an option. Some examples of your tone. I see you trolling homey, you don't need to lie to kick it. Also I always love someone calling someone retarded while misspelling a word, classic.

Dean "Rocket" Hall, may I ask a Favor?

The now current gen consoles will be able to run much more demanding open world games like Sleeping Dogs and The Division so I doubt BI would be locked out of the console marketplace. Also you responded earlier that I should take out the GPU and that is not an apt comparison since the AMD chipset is both a GPU and CPU in the PS4. I am well aware that PC is the better option for high end gaming, but there are games that are far more challenging on PCs than DayZ (BF4 comes to mind) that run just fine on the now current gen consoles (lets stop calling them next gen, they are out and now are the current gen of consoles). The real question is does BI have the talent to actually work on a console gaming experience, that is the real obstacle to porting over DayZ since they have limited experience in that part of the market. You might be correct that it will never happen, but the hardware would not be the reason it did not happen.

Dean "Rocket" Hall, may I ask a Favor?

It could definitely happen and frankly I hope it happens so console players can suffer through a bad port like PC users have had to suffer through bad console ports. In all seriousness Rocket stated that any console release would be dictated by DayZ's success on PC, since early Alpha has been a huge success I would say the console option (most likely PS4) will be explored when the time is right. Don't expect anything within a year though, the game is still in Alpha and the majority of the development will be geared toward pushing out a full retail release for PC.

    Rollback + unable to move!

Happens to me quite often, I try to stop and move something in my inventory from time to time and it seems to prevent the issue from happening. It does suck though, I have quit my session on a couple of occasions due to not wanting to run even further to meet up with buddies.
  9. Stop feeding it, for the love of God the troll has grown strong in Tommes over the past 100+ pages of multiple topics he flames on. Who cares if he views the issues the way he does, he is not a developer and no matter how much whine comes from him and a few others they have zero control over removing a feature. There is a problem because he wants there to be a problem since he enjoys arguing over an issue that has already been solved. He is the type of person who thinks his opinion equals a fact, there is no way to have a constructive conversation with someone who takes that approach so why even bother? Call me when the developers seriously discuss removing third person, everything else is just annoying noise rehashing old arguments. On a side note I am actually enjoying the first person only servers since I recently rebuilt my computer and the game runs incredibly smooth. I guess everyone who wants first person only should buy everyone high end graphic cards and new processors so this can be universally enjoyed (the game and engine remains clunky though as many have pointed out).

    Constantly losing character progress

Ugh, the OP was not raging he was asking a simple question which is one of the purposes of having a forum. Yes it is alpha and for an alpha it does not have a huge amount of bugs (yet), but people asking a fairly straightforward question without rage should not be met with this is Alpha. If you don't know the answer there are two acceptable responses, that sucks and no response at all. OP that sucks (see how that works).
  11. Quit flaming. A good fix to the issue has been implemented, everything else on the subject is people pretending their opinion is a fact.
  12. Stop the presses, people take vacation around the Holidays. The scandal, I think I am coming down with a case of the vapors. The difference between WarZ and DayZ is evidenced on the Steam page, one of them lied about content while the other went to great lengths to actively discourage purchasing the game in an unfinished state (Big cap letters). Rocket is on record stating the game probably is not worth buying at this point and the promises for future content all seem within grasp. WarZ marketed the game as though it had cars and other features that either never materialized or are only recently being added (I saw a video of terrible cars the other day). WarZ then called it full release within a month. WarZ had micro transactions on a game that was no where near complete. WarZ lied about content and told everyone there were special zombies when none existed. WarZ sold packages that included stronghold servers which to my knowledge still do not exist. WarZ told far too many lies over the development process. Plus the kicker, Sergey Titov is a famous d bag who should never be allowed to touch a video game much less be involved in the development of a game. I bought WarZ and if they had been upfront about the game I would never have cared that much. I have bought bad games before and probably will in the future. I recently bought contagion and played it for an hour and will most likely uninstall, but I am not mad since they did not lie to get business the game just is not that great. Even if DayZ ends up being a bad game (for myself I doubt that, even in its infancy it is looking good and if content is delivered it will only get better) I would walk away being fine with the purchase since the developers did not attempt to swindle players. Edit: Is that you Sergey?

For all of those that want to raise the player limit

If there were not so many server hoppers at military bases I would rarely see people anywhere off the coast so I would love to see the player limit increased to 75-100. Also if anyone has explored the Northern part of the map you can tell there will be more playable area added North of Berenzino and the NEAF running all the way to the NWAF. It could add quite a bit of playable area and more people means more encounters and any veteran will tell you player encounters are what makes this game interesting.
  14. Zombie Jesus

This is not what I hoped DayZ would be

Wait until the game gets more content and private servers start popping up. You could probably find a community that leans more to your playstyle in the future (I am betting it is just less douchy coast campers but not exactly pure PvE) but early Alpha is probably not the best place to hope for a different mindset from the Mod. The game as it stands right now is bare bones and after exploration it becomes hard to move North since you can find everything on the coast. Without storage, bases, or vehicles there is nothing to do after gearing up except act like a douche or pretend to be nice as you murder everyone who is as geared up as you are while pretending they were all bandits.

People over exaggerate KOS so much.

A few tips for those who truly want to play friendly. 1. This tip is the most important, never run up to someone shouting I am friendly. If you want to make contact do it from a position that is easy to retreat from and offers plenty of cover. 2. Watch an area before entering. If you wait a minute before entering a town you might get a good idea of whether or not players are present and they might even tip you off to their intentions. If you see someone running around with a person stalking them you might be looking at a bandit stalking a survivor. 3. Do not mindlessly help a person being chased by zombies if they are armed with a gun unless you follow tip number one. Zombies are not that difficult to kill and putting yourself in an exposed position to help is probably going to end in your death. 4. Stop waving at people who are approaching with M4's, your best chance at survival is making it difficult to kill you. Many other players do not care if you are friendly or unarmed. 5. If a player chases you 90%+ of the time they are going to kill you. If they tell you they are friendly they are most likely lying. Good news is a good percentage of people are bad shots and they run slower than you with a gun equipped.

People over exaggerate KOS so much.

Nothing was ever going to "work." At best it puts a twist on the situation and if I actually need something from a geared up player I might try to place a shot better. New content will also help, but I doubt we will ever be in a place where everyone wants to be friendly and deep down I bet most people do not want to play that game in the first place. Being afraid of death is what drives the suspense in this game, without bandits we are left with a fairly easy environment to overcome and that game gets boring quick.
  17. Zombie Jesus

So the east side of the map.

The NEAF is a cool area to gear up and if you ever explored North of that you would see areas that will most likely be expanded on. The town next to the NEAF has a market and a school and the airfield itself has three high value military spawns and two hangars. On my way to the NEAF from Berenzino I saw a paved road on the coast that I have never seen and a dirt road that broke off toward it and decided to go explore. Was rewarded with a ship wreck that was pretty cool and I then decided to follow the paved road north and found an area with a city grid and a few buildings that definitely looks like a work in progress. I can agree that the North East does not have as many hotspots as the North West but I can definitely see that getting fixed in the near future.

Yo Dawg I heard you like whining threads so I put this whine in a thread whining about KoS whining. I am sorry, I will stop now.
  19. Zombie Jesus

Developers lied, hackers can teleport players.

Some people might be like that but the reason you got a bad response is a combination of a dumb title (did they really lie to you or did they just say it would be more difficult) and a fairly dumb OP. Your OP is structured to make it sound like you killed 42 people after being teleported. If English is not your first language I apologize, if it is please stay in school. I am a bandit and normally kill people who are armed, but I still was put off from your post due to those two reasons.

    Coming out to my clan

Phrasing. I am going to go out on a limb and guess your clan is made up of younger players? People who judge someone they actually have previous interactions with on a single issue are not worth being friends with anyways. Any insults should be taken with a grain of salt because in the long run you are better off not being associated with people like that in the first place. It sucks that you are still at a place in your life where your orientation makes you uncomfortable to be yourself and if you take anything away from this it should be that you need to be more comfortable in your own skin. You only control yourself so who cares about the others.
  21. Zombie Jesus

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

One side are being dicks, the others are cheating. See the difference? Combat logging, ghosting, and body disappearing are examples of cheating or a glitch (the body disappearing). Sure we have to deal with it but do not put it on the same level as a play style that was an intended feature. Being a jerk in DayZ is part of the game, I might not like the fact that far too many people lean that direction but I would never call KoS cheating. I would definitely call combat logging, server hopping, and ghosting cheating. You could say both break the game, but you can not call KoS cheating so there is a huge difference.
  22. On the idea that first person is more "realistic" I will have to say you are deluding yourself if you use that argument. Both are unrealistic. We all know that third person allows you to see places that are not visually accessible so no need to go over those "immersion breakers." But lets make a list of the problems with first person in general and first person in this specific game. I have the ability to glance around easily without having to utilize alt or move my entire body. I can grab a mirror off a car and peek around corners or over ledges. I can do a chin up on a wall and look at what is on the other side. I have spatial awareness that allows me to understand my place in an environment. I possess the ability to utilize echo location to understand where a moving object is coming from with far better accuracy than is available in this game and most games in general. Specific to this game, the engine is clunky (less clunky than Arma 2 so far but clunky nonetheless). Light from a flashlight is still not that great and is very disorienting in tight places while in first person and the headlamp points down while in first person. In real life (see why realism is a stupid argument) I can adjust the angle of light very easily, in DayZ not so much.
  23. You are not advocating for me, you are doing mental gymnastics to make it seem that way though so bravo. If STDs never existed I would never have to wear a condom, but that is not a logical argument for not wearing a condom because they do exist. The cat is out of the bag and making easy mode arguments is not going to sway anyone. If you manage to sway someone who actually has the power to implement the change more power to you, but I am entrenched and could care less what you say because I am not going to be lectured by someone over my preference. You prove your mindset by saying first person is actually better, I DO NOT AGREE WITH THAT OPINION AND I WOULD LOVE IT IF YOU STOPPED PRESENTING IT AS FACT. Notice how I am not saying third person is better, I am pointing out that we have a difference of opinion and instead of accepting that people enjoy third person you want to dictate perspective based on your preference. That is what someone does when they know their idea has lost.
  24. Oh a forum poll, how scientific. I have been here quite some time and I can tell you that poll and the other topic were commented on by long time forum users who are notorious for not representing the average DayZ player. Sometimes that is good since a large amount of the player base supported mods and servers that had watered down the game, but the opinion of forum users should never be confused with the actual opinion of DayZ players in general. I admitted I would still play DayZ if first person was removed, but that does not change my preference. I also already pointed out that some dude I do not know telling me 3rd person is easy mode (or cupcake, or cheating, or whatever else you wish to label it) does not matter either. So lets look at your argument. You argue from a point of selfishness. You have friends who prefer a view and are upset that you often have to compromise to their preference. I get why that would make you upset, but I fail to see why I should care even a little bit.
  25. I am not sure you understand what spatial awareness means. I have used the FOV slider and you still do not get a great idea of your body in relation to the environment. But at the end of the day I do not care about the arguments one way or the other, it is merely a preference and the only group that has any say already included 3rd person in the Alpha. If it is removed I will quietly accept that decision and adapt, unfortunately many on the other side of the argument are unable to do the same. Your beef is with the fact that more people like third person and the developers are incapable of fixing that problem for you without removing an option. Sometimes your opinion loses out in the marketplace of ideas, this is one of those times.
