    Whats wrong with sidechat?

Global texting is great IMO and does lead to a better community, but the people who spam it with every thought that pops into their head are annoying and voice chat is really annoying. Most people understand that you should not use voice chat in the global channel but others are just too stupid for life and continue to use it after numerous complaints. Disable voice side chat and problem solved, but it is funny to see people get kicked then banned for not understanding the server rules. A friend of a friend was playing with us the other day and was doing annoying side chat voices (sadly the guy is 24 so no hope for him to turn it around and become a functioning adult) and I told him repeatedly he was going to get banned and none of us would care or follow him to a new server, sure enough he gets banned then starts whining in Skype that no one will go to a new server with him. Edit: the one thing I will warn people about is giving up your position so easily in side chat, I watch what is said and if you are in my area you might just get killed for telling someone you are in the barracks at the prison (I ended up getting two grenade kills that night, and then convinced their spotter not to kill me by playing it off as some coincidence that I was at the barracks).
  3. Add mechanics that encourage teamwork, which is already being done for standalone. I am not saying force teamwork for being friendly through perks and rewards, just make certain activities fairly impossible to achieve by yourself. As it stands now I tend to die far more often trying to be friendly or walking around with a group (groups attract more attention so called "friendly" survivors make assumptions about groups just like the stupid assumptions players make about Ghillie suits), so besides having someone there to provide a blood bag there is no in game incentive to teamwork. There are obvious benefits to team work that apply to almost every game, you have an extra set of eyes and ears watching your back and you can find and fix up vehicles far quicker. But as far as fixing the mod, probably not going to happen from an official standpoint, but check out some of the community fixes that are being rolled out or discussed in the private hive discussion. The base code for the mod has been made public so we will see some decent community experiments coming out over the next couple of months and maybe one of those will address the "problem" as you see it. Even if a significant amount of incentives were deployed I still think you will have a sizable chunk of the population who will still shoot you for the lolz. Before most of my IRL friends stopped playing I was not all that friendly on any server since I did not require anything teaming up had to offer, now that I find myself alone a good chunk of the time I tend to put myself at risk by being friendly. Sometimes it works out, yesterday I got some NVG on Fallujah by making a side chat trade with a completely random bandit (had the skin) at the airfield, while other times it ends in a murder. If you are really desperate you can always join a non PvP server where people are highly encouraged to work together and KoS is a bannable offense, personally these servers take away a core feature and do not seem all that fun but whatever floats your boat. Also I have been murdered as a direct result of attempting to follow the server rules, saw a helicopter and I had an AS50 that would normally result in the helicopter being destroyed but tried to follow server rules and got myself into a terrible position and was murdered (all in all the server was very nice though, had no idea that it was a non PvP server until someone told me then I checked the rules and it was clearly posted I just never read them since it is usually obvious like no hacking).

    Funny ways you've died.

Fixed a wheel on a Bus and the movement killed me, also was maliciously attacked and murdered by a rock with a 28 day old character (still my personal best while actually logging long amounts of playtime each day). I think many of us have experienced how truly terrible the tractor is about blowing up in low speed collisions, I was lucky enough to get out in time to only lose half my blood with my Tractor incident but I will never drive that thing again.
  5. There I was sharpening my sick sniping skillz in CoD MW3 and BF3 when a buddy told me about an awesome game that allows you to sit on a hill sniping people. I checked out Youtube and told my buddy it looked like it was hard to get geared out and he said "nah man that is for sucka's, we going to cheat like mad hackers with mad skillz." Since I am a sociopath I had no problem with the idea of ruining hundreds of other players day with my sick new hackz, so I threw on God mode and started sniping new players with my AS50 TWS, man I am so great at this game. People can not touch my crew when we are teleporting around the map getting every gun out of our magic box, do not be Jelly of our mad skillz just cause you a sucka. Just kidding, my buddies and I started seeing a ton of videos and articles about the game online and decided to give it a try sometime in June (I missed the Steam sale), been playing this and other Arma 2 mods ever since (full disclosure I actually do play BF3 and like it, I know it is a sin on this forum but I really do not care).

    What went wrong?

    +1 I think we have,a winner.
  7. There are legit ammo boxes at barracks and heli crash sites containig Stanag rounds and then a .762 box for rifle ammo. They are in game items so alwaus take a look.

    DayZ favorite map

Part of me wants to say Chernarus but something about Lingor just has me hooked, maybe it is due to not having as much time played as chernarus. I like fallujah for airport and vehicles, but the rest of the map is pretty terrible. I used to hate takistan but have been having fun there lately, but I will end up hating it again when I get spawned into endless desert running with no way to committ suicide.

Doesn't the off road truck have one on spawn?

    Grounded the little turd

This thread separates the men from the boys. In the real world success takes hard work and while cheaters gain tempoary rewards they usually flame out after being caught and are universally reviled. Do we celebrate Barry Bonds achievements or do we generally look at him with disgust and barely acknowledge the records he achieved through cheating? Bernie Madoff made piles of money cheating then lost it all and ended up in jail to finish his life. Teaching your child an important lesson about the inherent value of hard work over shortcuts is an important lesson for any parent to pass onto their children. Maybe a tad long but then again that lesson will most likely stick, I stole something from a store at 12 and was grounded for three months and my parents had me doing community service every weekend during that time. Guess who never stole something from a store again. Allowing shit to slide is how we get a generation of moronic entitled douchebags who think the only thing that matters is themselves.
  11. I wont lie and say I don't take gear from these tents and vehicles that belong in dayz, but I try to destroy what I don't take if I can. I always destroy hacked in gear but if the tent looks legit I will take what I need and leave the rest. I found two tents up north with very basic gear and checked it a couple days later and it was an active camp but the gear sucked so I left them a DMR with ammo.

    Acceptable AltF4 Moments

Hackers are the only legitimate reason but even there I tend to stay on if I have new spawn or low tier gear just to see what happens. I have seen some insane things happen like thunderdomes, a tank, and a guy flying multiple planes into another player like the C130. If I was already killed I just try to observe and if given a hacker box I always take one item, a satchel that I then use to attempt a hacker kill. Usually these guys are unimaginative griefers who console kill or teleport people into the sky, at this point I should just abort out of the game to save myself the trouble. It is frustrating to get killed as an unarmed survivor but once again you really do not lose anything. For me it may cause a rage quit after dying if anything.
  13. Zombie Jesus

    Is this legal?

Even though I had a bad run in recently with an admin I still understand that they are providing a service to the dayz community. Warning and kicking people for weapons not in the mod sets a tone that hacking is not tolerated so I can see why some will enforce this rule.

    M4A1 with Grenade Launcher

That particular variant is not in chernarus (it has a flashlight, holo, and 203 I think). Since there are quite a few similar guns I can see why this mistake is common. Edit: shit looks like I was wrong, I think the hacked one is the M4 holo SD.
  15. Zombie Jesus

    Well shit, i guess i alt+f4'd.

I usually kill a few zombies before I log off just for the fun of it and one time I did the exact same thing. Shot some zombies in a tiny town I thought no one else was near and right when my cursor is on abort I hear a bullet land right next to my character. I am sure he thought that was one of the quickest alt F4's he had ever seen. Then there was the few times I did it as a newb, still feel bad about it.
  16. Zombie Jesus

    Is this legal?

Yea that is why I can't really get worked up about someone carrying the holo version when the in game version is so much better. If pushed I would be cool with taking the thermal out of the game but I won't lie and say I pass it up when I find one.
  17. Zombie Jesus

    Is this legal?

Personally dont like to carry hacked in gear but you will not get a global ban. It is only a holo that uses STANAG rounds so nothing too crazy, but using that gun with soldier camo will give people the wrong impression fast.

    DayZ Weapons - A Question?

Yea and was raised by hippy liberals in California to top it off, even our left has a fair amount of gun owners. To be fair I was 10 or 11 and was heavily supervised and had to go through gun safety classes before I was even allowed to touch the thing.

    DayZ Weapons - A Question?

That does suck man, I lost a .22 I had since I was a child and my .45 glock that I was given to me for my 21st birthday to a robbery. Plus I should have known not to use assault rifle on a forum with other gun owners.
  20. Zombie Jesus

    M240 or SAW?

M240 due to the massive amount of damage it does in PvP situations, plus I seem to find ammo for it quite often.

    DayZ Weapons - A Question?

I actually own a Makarov (was a gift) and due to this game I sigh every time I see the gun. I also own a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun for home protection and my spouse's Father and Step-Father have over a dozen weapons apiece including scoped rifles and one Assault Rifle (I guess people get very picky on what you can call an Assault Rifle). In America you would find a variety of weapons in homes including some low grad semi auto military style Battle Rifles. Scoped rifles would be fairly common as would a variety of handguns in the states and we currently have more firearms than people in this country, so yes guns would be insanely common in a zombie apocalypse if it happened in the United States. Most countries have absurd stockpiles of weapons as well, former Soviet republics and Russia for example. The Middle East and Africa are overflowing with low grade weapons, then you have police stations and military bases that would also have a good amount of weapons regardless of where it took place. There are certain countries where good low grade weapons would be far less common and that would be in Western European countries and Australia (not really sure how prevalent firearms are in Asian and South American countries though so I will not venture a guess there).

    Help selecting a stable server?

Some of the private servers are also connected to a private hive (so if you play on one vilayer private server your gear saves on the other vilayer private servers). Check out some servers in advance to gauge how good they are, even think about joining a private server with good admins and an active player base. I no longer have a regular Chernarus server since it shut down, but I am sure if you do a little advanced research you can find a good private and possibly even a good public server (although it is harder to find a good public server). Try to make contact with the admins and tell them what your plans are, or ask one of the frequent contributors on this site who admin EU servers if you can play on their server. Try not to announce the server you are playing on in the public forums though, you will end up having to pay out far more due to scripters and griefers. Edit: It was funny I was specifically thinking of Derpy Hooves as someone to talk to but did not want to throw him out there without permission, good luck and since you are donating for every death I hope Derpy Hooves is able to kill you a couple of times.

    How would I hunt bandits?

See, everyone PvP's after a certain point in this game, to me the survivor/bandit distinction has become very blurred. In Lingor I do not have bandit skin despite having over ten kills in my current life, humanity always resets to zero when you change into bandit clothing and if you do not get a quick murder will revert to survivor clothes. So a survivor kills me in self defense and then gets bandit clothes, now you come in and murder him thinking man I just killed that bandit sweet when in fact the guy was just a friendly survivor who was maliciously attacked by some douchebag named Zombie Jesus.

    How would I hunt bandits?

Because of side chat no doubt, but are they really friendly or do you go group hunting? Grouping up with randoms and then killing other random people is not being "friendly." I love Lingor and I usually find other random people to play with as well, but it always turns into PvP hunts. That is what you are looking for but you still have your Chernarus mindset of trying to be friendly and you are attempting to justify your murders, who cares if you kill that guy who has an AKM he will find a new one within five minutes of respawn. Maybe you truly are the friendly guy (I do not murder everyone I come across and I can be friendly I just do not care as much on Lingor).

    How would I hunt bandits?

KoS, a survivor is just a bandit who likes to pretend they are nice (I am kidding of course, they just have not had the opportunity to become jaded yet). On lingor, hang out around Calamar and look for trouble. The mansion overlooking the airfield in Calamar is a good place to start, or on the hill that leads away from the city (near the airfield). Pretty much look for people camping the airfield, but banditry on Lingor is not as easy to pinpoint because the entire map has places to go and loot that are worth the trip. I play as a bandit on there (because that is what that map is for) and kill people from a hill near the prison. I stay right near the road to see vehicles coming (I have a satchel charge on the road) and there is really no reason to approach from behind because someone running a non road route will likely come from the Southwest.
