    My Last Rant

My rule of thumb is I will never be mad when I get more than a dollar an hour worth of entertainment. It still costs more to go to the movies. Just wait until the game is in a more complete state, although people will always kill you. If you did not understand what DayZ was after all the information about the mod it is your fault. It was always going to have plenty of KoS folks and people who would backstab you for a can of beans. The game is going to take about a year to exit Alpha, you already own it come back and see what it has to offer at that point. Edit: Gave a nice reply until I saw your second post. Almost everyone points out the fact that people will kill you in DayZ and you are tripping if you think you can get a refund on a game you put 100 hours into. Do you attempt to return used condoms as well?

Lol I play Rust and I can assure you people are not that friendly. I would suggest avoiding that game if you dislike KoS.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

That is the dumbest argument I have seen from you. If you are attempting to log you should die, stop being a little pussy and actually fight the people or roll the dice. You probably survived those 100 hours by being a combat logger and you are now mad that you will not be able to magically escape from danger. Come back and cry when it happens until then suck it up and realize most of use were tired of seeing people like yourself vanish into thin air any time someone got the upper hand in a fight. Essentially, the lady doth protest to much.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

Maybe you play as John Rambo and that is fine but if I know someone is in a building I might take more than 30 seconds to gauge the situation and put myself in a good position to kill them. So for your first part yes I could easily lay down cover fire, retreat, and then hope the person approaches with caution to be met by an empty room. Your second part of course I deserve to die for logging out while in combat. If you do not agree your real beef is with risk and the game in general.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

So we should just go with the easily exploited mechanic because on very rare circumstances someone will get unlucky? I am sorry people will exploit the other mechanic to avoid combat on a much greater frequency than people getting unlucky in a safe area. I will take that death you describe everytime so I do not have to deal with people mysteriously vanishing because they are too afraid to lose their gear.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

Easily exploited. I get into a firefight and decide the other team has the upper hand. In your scenario I get to take the chance at combat logging without the complete risk. If I see the person running up I abort and continue the fight, if not a I disappear into the night.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

In a perfect world we would be plugged into the matrix so the server could ascertain whether you were just logging out or trying to avoid combat. Since we do not we all suffer with a 30 second window where we might be killed. Putting in a bunch of mechanics for the server to gauge intent is a waste of time when the current proposal will work in most circumstances with few unintended consequences. Why over complicate something that can be done extremely easily. People will learn to log out in safe places and if they do not most can accept the consequence.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

Such an easy fix, do not allow a player to connect to another server during that 30 second log out timer. Fixed.

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

Log out somewhere safe, the key word is safe. If you log out in a high traffic area and someone happens to come across your body you did not follow the key word in that sentence. You guys are making it overly complicated. Your way is easily exploitable, say I lay down cover fire then hope I can sit still for 30 seconds but the person is obviously checking for me. I get all the benefit of being able to log to avoid combat with none of the risk of leaving my body there in hopes they are too afraid to check in that 30 second span. People will die due to unexpected disconnects and just bad luck but I will take that over an easily exploited mechanic any day.
  10. The point was not really about the spray cans though. I was speaking about the fact that some of the team will be devoted to adding in new items while other parts will be working on network architecture, others on the map, etc etc etc. So saying why add in a spray can while we have broken zombies is a dumb argument since they are most likely being worked on at the same time by those qualified to work on those issues. So if you want to complain about the lack of internal testing you have a point. If you tie that to not finishing zombie AI, loot spawning mechanics, or other areas of development I will say that is stupid and shows a lack of insight into how games are developed.
  11. If that was your goal what was with those three initial "reasons" for the issues. You could lay out the issues and even state they seem to be in disarray and while you would receive some backlash you could have an honest discussion with some posters. Hell even this post would be a decent conversation starter minus the fanboy, God, and Bible nonsense. But that is not what you are here to do, you are here to claim to have a background I seriously question (for good reason) and make stupid statements devoid of facts (it must be this this or this, two of them are tinfoil hat conspiracies and the other is the developers are morons). I will point out I completely sidestepped your flame at the beginning and discussed industry trends on early access ie Alpha and the pros and cons. I then posted about getting free press being smart and anyone who is not completely devoid of economic sense can see why developers need good press in this circumstance. Then I posted about the concept of concurrent development since you found it so absurd that a shotgun and spray paint can be added before major bug fixes. You responded to zero points and then just let loose with fanboy nonsense. So please tell me again how you wish to have a legitimate discussion when all you do is flame and claim to be a developer with no knowledge of the current industry and a lack of insight on concurrent development and compartmentalization of a project? Also the timeline is not all that ambitious, ambitious is a timeline that WarZ laid out during their Alpha. Saying the game will be into beta release in a year is not some unbelievable goal and actually caused some people to question why it is going so slow.
  12. Lol my bad I was using the Edmund Burke Quote that you posted about the only thing necessary for evil is good men to remain silent. That quote is often used in reference to WWII and the Holocaust but it is much older than that event, but it is still a ridiculous quote to use when discussing anything in a video game. It is hyperbole at its worst. Although I will admit I did misappropriate the quote in this case since it is a quote that stands apart from the NAZI's and WWII. You did compare it to slavery at one point though which is equally moronic. You have compared a feature in a video game to being a man, you have compared a feature in a video game to the value of a person, etc etc etc. So excuse the minor misappropriation, it does not make anything else you have to say on a topic as trivial as 3PP any less moronic. You are not that good at ARGUING bro, you are a decent troll though. Also Goodwin's law only applies if I called you Hitler or a Nazi, I did not do that because we are discussing a video game. It is called perspective, try it out sometime.
  13. Lol with that I am going to call huge troll or pretentious idiot. Yes the perspective you use in a video game is a great indicator of how you live your day to day life. Also do not get on that high horse with people like yourself (who spent the last thread being insanely vulgar and combative) and gibonez trolling every topic on this subject with insanity. You even compared the issue to Hitler and slavery. You want to climb up on that high horse and pretend you personally are any better than any troll on this topic be my guest but you are just as bad as any poster I have seen. It is a game. Let me repeat that, it is a game. Repeat that for me a couple of times and come back and say it is an indicator of real life or on par with the evils of man.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Who can not be fond of Orlok? Even when disagreeing you are abundantly nice. I agree on the loot map part although I was guilty when I first started. When the new maps came out I would try to navigate without loot maps and I found it fun, although being a DayZ veteran helps with navigation in general. I just think this is an issue of practicality. There is no way to actually meet up with friends without using some form of external communication, even setting a meeting place on an outside source is playing the game in a way not intended. Plus we all know DayZ can be long stretches of boring activities punctuated by brief moments of action and that time is easier spent joking around or talking on these outside programs. Like most of these forum disagreements both sides have valid points to make but since it is an online forum it often devolves into cursing and anger that seems way out of proportion to the subject at hand. Frankly I am not sure how you baby blues handle it.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

People who are not familiar with DayZ often mistake desyncing with hackers and bugs (like the one early on where you could respawn right where you died) hacks. I bet there are some but I have not even called hacker yet in the Standalone. Then again the mod was at one time a blatant hackfest and I might not notice the more subtle forms of hacking like esp and aimbot (if they are even around in SA) since I am so used to the Thunder Dome.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Hopefully I do not seem worked up. Calling people cheaters will get some people worked up I just pointed out that I disagree with both the concept and the word choice. As far as server hopping and combat logging I would call them very bad examples of exploiting an unfinished game that does not have features to combat these exploits implemented yet. So I would use the term exploiting, although combat logging is one of the worst examples of exploiting currently in the game since it ruins a great deal of the purpose of the game. Servers in the mod that made it against the rules it would be called cheating and there were often temporary or permanent bans attached to that action.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

But our opinion is that it is not cheating...see how it becomes a circular argument? People have stated why it is not cheating and you have a different opinion. Objectively it is not cheating since there is no rule against the use of VoiP and there is no punishment. On a subjective level I guess it is up for debate but I would still disagree with your characterization of it being a cheat but would be unable to show that 100%. So by the only objective measurement available, rules, it is not against the rules meaning it is not cheating.
  19. I don't have to say shit about that since I never made that claim. You are the one coming off as uninformed about the industry in general which is sad if you have actual recent experience working in the industry. So some of the reasons your claim to have experience does not come off great. Biggest problem is the lack of knowledge on current industry trends. I pointed it out in detail that early access is a way for developers to obtain funding without having to go through a large publisher. The old models of publishers is getting blurred in PC gaming. Even though Bohemia probably has the cash and credit to develop the game internally all the way to official release they might get spooked if the amount of money being spent is going past sales projections. An Early Access game means they can test the waters while providing a bare bones Alpha to those interested in participating. If the interest is high they can spend more money on development. Sure you will have bad actors take advantage but it does remove the focus grouping and marketing managers from the decision making process. Other large problem with your claim to understand development is concurrent development. Fixing loot spawning mechanics and creating an item like spray paint are usually handled by different people/groups. If it is a very small team there will be less specialization, but from all accounts they have a decent sized staff with people focusing on their specialties. Maybe your experience is outdated or perhaps you are full of shit, but so far it is not coming across as a post by someone with a great grasp of development experience. But the main reason you are getting flamed is due to your thesis on the three possible reasons the development process is going the way you think it is going. Those are not all of the possibilities and two of them are stupid.
  20. I responded to all of your points and only added a some humor at the end. One you have three scenarios right off the bat that come across as trolling and then you show a massive lack of knowledge on both current industry trends and development in general. Not saying you are a troll but you did not make great points.
  21. You mean a recently implemented item will sometimes have unintended bugs in an Alpha, my stars I think I am getting the vapors. Lol, your one valid point is better bug tracking, but Dean being unaware of a single bug is not the same as the developers tasked with fixing that specific bug being unaware.
  22. Times change and the availability of Early Access on Steam will continue to open up the early stages of games to a wider audience. Simple economics here, instead of relying on investment the company can build an early access game and have less input from a publisher. It is a double edged sword though, on one end it gives the actual developers more freedom to make the game they want and not what someone in marketing wants, but it can turn into a WarZ scenario as well. Consoles They have always said if the game has enough interest for a console release it is a possibility. Once again economics. But they have also said they want to finish development of the game before releasing it on consoles. One reason they would want to do that is economics as well, it is expensive to push patches on the consoles so why even bother porting an unfinished product and paying for all the costs to continue serious development. Your other point is the point hippies make. "Oh no companies release products for money, the horror." Yes they are looking to get their game out there to the public with next to no marketing budget. It is smart and relies on word of mouth and favorable press. People make things for consumption, welcome to the real world. Community development is terrible. Developers should keep an eye on player suggestions, but for the most part people should be brushed off and the developers should make the game they want to make. Where do you go for an accurate snapshot of the DayZ community in the first place. The forum is full of "purists" whose views do not reflect the general DayZ playerbase and Reddit might reflect the views of the more casual subset (although they are most likely closer to the actual DayZ playerbase). Community suggestions are often stupid as well and not possible. They should engage with them and pay attention to the most pervasive ideas/suggestions, but a good 90% of the community's input is useless and idiotic. Spray cans are easy to put into the game and since you are not privy to the make up of the development team I doubt you understand that concurrent projects are the norm (you say you have worked in development but it is not coming across that way). Setting dates and breaking them is a bad idea. Internal deadlines and goals are different than broadcasting them to the public. I doubt they have meetings where everyone states it will be done when it is done, they probably provide deadlines and goals internally but none of that needs to be given to the public. It is far worse to state vehicles will be here by 6/15/2014 than to say they hope to have them released within the next six months. A vague goal is taken as just that by the majority of players, a hard date is seen as a "promise." 2/10 would not bang.

I play lone wolf about 50% of the time and enjoy that feeling as well, but I guess most of the disagreements on this forum boil down to preference of the individuals. You guys think it is a cheat and many other players think you guys are too uptight. Both of us are probably right on a certain level, yes Voip gives people an advantage not in the game but thinking it is cheating is being uptight. Besides the fact that it is next to impossible to address from the developers it sort of reminds me of the constant arguing about 3PP and the ability of players to make choices. If you are actually playing with friends and want a straight up RP experience you are free to do that, what rubs people the wrong way is the fact that so many people want to put their preference and make it the standard for everyone else. Or they take their preference and label it the right way and everyone else is cheating. BTW I remember that episode of Walking Dead where Shane dies and then he hits respawn, that was a classic (hint it is a game). Is the respawn button cheating? Is knowing the map from experience cheating when you are a fresh spawn? Sigh, this forum is turning into gaming hipsters versus children and those in the middle who enjoy a tough survival game but want some semi enjoyable aspects to remain are caught in an endless loop of bad arguments.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Thanks, my buddy and I found some and were not sure how they worked. I put a battery in but after that we ended up ditching them since we do have Skype and could not figure out how to adjust the channels, although this was when they were first added so maybe it was part of the recent patch. We really only wanted them to mess with other players by putting one on the ground and talking over it to confuse the person. I really wish you guys would at least label things correctly while talking about them to avoid others flaming. Cheat is not really the correct usage, it is Meta gaming. Messaging a buddy on Steam with a location to meet up is Meta Gaming (or for you cheating). There really is no valid way to find each other on this huge map without "cheating" or getting extremely lucky. At some point we need to realize it is a game and social people often play with friends, no need to use a word like cheating for people dicking around on Skype.
  25. Zombie Jesus

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Wouldn't steam text messages just be the same cheat but more of a burden? You are still communicating with someone in a way that game does not allow so I fail to see how it is not "cheating" if you think 3rd party Voip is cheating. I get some people enjoy RP in games and are perfectly fine with the idea of being on an island until a buddy and you accidentally run into each other on a map as large as Chernarus, but those people should not expect regular players to care even a little bit about that viewpoint when gaming is a social experience for many people. So I will not get bogged down in the argument that it is impossible, I will only say even if it was possible it would make the DayZ experience vastly less enjoyable for 90%+ of the players. Also are radios actually working at this point?
