HFB, Vilayer, and DayZCommander need to knock this crap off..
Zombie Jesus replied to ersan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For some reason the basic tenets of capitalism are lost on many people on the internet, I am not saying I hate or love Vilayer but I enjoy some of the easily accessible content that both Vilayer and Dayz Commander offer. I was playing Panthera before Vilayer got their hands on it and sure it was fun for the forty people who knew about it and went through the install process (not hard but sometimes things go wrong and from server to server they had different files, talk about fragmenting the community). I sort of understand the anger at Vilayer but from a strictly legal perspective they are not selling community content they are selling server hosting. They make purchasing a Vilayer server more appealing by offering easy tools for a variety of maps, but they are not selling maps (lawyered, just kidding but nothing illegal is happening). Angry at Dayz commander, not really sure why. They are offering a launcher that is easy for the unwashed masses and do a decent job. One of the complaints about Dayz from a good amount of people interested in playing is they find the install process hard (admittedly it is not, but some people are too lazy to follow a seven step process). Also you are forced to trust files that are not always trustworthy, sure I know how to minimize that risk but not everyone does. Vilayer offers Dayz commander an easy way to access maps, why would they not take advantage of that? TL;DR take potshots at Vilayer all you want (since some are deserved) but hating on Dayz commander seems a little misguided. -

Jex the difference between us is I can acknowledge when I was wrong starting out, yet you are too much of a bitch to do the same. You could have easily changed the tone of this entire thread, but instead you fought the good fight of telling everyone else they are stupid and you are brilliant. Could we graveyard this useless circle jerk please. -
Yea 4chan hates everything besides gore, apathy, and pedo bear.

Daze, no problem man sometimes sarcasm is hard to read online, happens to us all. Great example of a game that is just impossible, I actually remember raging out on that one as a child and swearing to never play it again (I think I followed through too). As far as balanced, maybe it is just one of those loaded terms on this forum that I read too much into (like realism). We all have different preferences so I should learn to not attack someone for stating what their preference is, but in all fairness the OP started this thread out in terrible fashion and the tone reflects that fact. Starts with a simple response that was not at all insulting and the OP turns around and calls the poster an asshole, really was uncalled for and then the OP just continued down that path. -

Man, now I am bummed that I have yet to play with you. I found the server(s) you have running but for some reason they are always the wrong version on Dayz commander. The Australian one is always pretty full but the ping is fairly high for someone on the West Coast, what am I doing wrong here? Maybe launch with IP through Arma2 beta patch? Drunk driving is always fun in video games, had a buddy t-bone my full car at the NWAF due to having one too many. -

Yea I know, I was actually killed recently by a hatchet wielding madman due to the scroll wheel being over my pistol. Instead of unloading a clip from my M14 aim when I saw him 10 meters away (had a broken leg on a hill after a battle with someone else) I switched guns and shot him in the foot with half a G17 clip before I was knocked out. Laughed my ass off on that death. On the flip side I murdered a guy on Fallujah who came into a warehouse I was looting with an AS50 TWS and all I had was a hatchet. Side chat was enabled and the guy was very butthurt about that encounter, I just told him to laugh it off shit happens in Dayz but he just continued to rage and rage. -

Maybe your view is not coming across well but how the hell does playing a game legitimate without cheating make one a care bear? I could care less when I die and often I just laugh (even when it is a hacker, had a guy spawn behind me and then he said do not cross this line while shooting the ground and I promptly crossed that line and died, still laughed), but cheating is cheating and that is why I care. Killing anyone while being a cheating little girl should not be accepted by any player who also has even a shred of dignity, not saying you should rage out about it but hating dirty skiddies is not even close to being a carebear. As far as an impossible game to win Dayz is just that, so is the zombie mode on CoD. Both of these are fairly popular despite not having an end game objective besides survive as long as possible. Balance is impossible in Dayz, there will always be inequities in this game as long as one can find better gear. Unless you are advocating for fixed loadouts on spawn there will never even be the semblence of balance in this game. There will always be the guy shooting you when you have nothing or next to nothing. I have now heard everything on this forum, being against cheating is now the same as being a carebear. Thanks for the laugh man. -

On Chernarus I would have to agree with that statement, on Takistan and Fallujah I will straight up end my life if I get some terrible spawn (especially the BS desert spawns in Takistan, who wants to run 3000 meters to get to an area worth looting). The only thing that truly drags down my average is I tend to not really care for the 30 minutes of my life as a newspawn, so if I see a guy with an MK Mod I will rush him with my hatchet like a boss. If I die who cares, but if I kill him it is very funny (at least for me, I know many people do not appreciate the humor in losing a fully geared character to a guy with a hatchet, pain pills, bandage, and patrol pack). People complain about Kamenka without realizing it is easy to run up to Zeleno and hit up a few deer stands on the way or even hit Balota (although I prefer the Zeleno route) and the Three Valleys or Solinchiny spawns are not that far from Berenzino which is a fairly safe city to gear up in as well. -

Man you live 48-120 hours of in game time? I used to grind out long survival times on medium population servers (longest character was 28 days of heavy play time, murdered by a KoS rock) but I would say I average about 5-10 in game hours er character, maybe less if you count stupid new spawn carelessness. -
Smash is being nice, Reddit has a better system to sift through the mountains of crap that is posted on any forum. On this forum he would have to sift through piles of shit just to find the one kernel of truth (gross).

Are Choppers needed in DayZ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
See Jex is it so hard to discuss a point without an insult? Who cares about realism, we can just assume that our characters have a military background since they seem to have basic weapon and survival skills since if we get into this whole realism argument our characters would be extremely limited in what they can do. If we go with a strict realism argument you might as well get rid of medical system, shooting, fixing cars, running for prolonged periods, and other skills that not everyone has. As far as advantages I will say it again, this game is not about balance. If it was we would have starting loadouts because the guy with an AKM shooting at the guy with a double barrel shotgun is unfair as well. Why should someone who is good at the game or has put in the massive amount of work that goes with finding and repairing a helicopter be punished because they now have a legitimate advantage over other players. The advantage was not easily obtained and the helicopters are very rare and stay destroyed for up to 7 days so they are not a common occurrence on regular servers, not really seeing why this is some huge problem that can not be solved with a few minor tweaks. Helicopters are rather easy to take down and almost every player will attempt to shoot at the players in a helicopter and the helicopter itself so it does come with significant drawbacks. Your argument about ease of travel applies to vehicles and I have used an offroad truck to effectively search for campsites and hidden vehicles in the past, so many of your points transfer over to items, weapons, and vehicles that you seem to be perfectly fine with (this is why people assume you are butthurt about a particular incident, maybe you are not but you can at least see why some would think that). We will most likely disagree on this topic no matter what either of us says, just try not to get so worked up over this shit it really is not worth it and the reason you get harsh responses is completely on you. When the majority of people respond negatively to the way you are acting it is not an indication that everyone else is stupid. -
I go to sleep in houses (log out) and then like to think in the night some tweaker came by and stole all the empty cans and bottles from my house and surrounding houses to take in for recycling. Am I doing it right?

Are Choppers needed in DayZ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yea because every video game should be limited to what you can do in real life. Nothing is needed in Dayz, question is are they fun without a huge amount of drawbacks, I would say yes they are. It is not like I have choppers all the time but one of my greatest Dayz moments was getting into a battle with another helicopter and taking it and the crew down. -

Yea the barrack doors are an extremely annoying bug (you can crawl through them but I have already been sniped doing this so be careful), but it is pretty fun otherwise. Might even give lingor a challenge for my favorite new map. Zargabad (I think) is a fun casual map, like a far better Utes. -
Standalone Hackers, and assurances ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Taiphoz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All I will say is at least hold out the possibility that a modified engine might be able to address many of these concerns. From his recent interviews it seems like this is the main focus for the standalone, so the situation might not be as dire as you think. Pretty sure they know what the problems are and how they address these issues will make or break the standalone so the motivation is there to get it right. Here is to hoping your suspicions are wrong, you can call it being a fanboy but I prefer opptimist. -
Standalone Hackers, and assurances ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Taiphoz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
AlcApwn, I was not being a dick until the tone of your post set me off, so learn how to engage in constructive conversations or take the deserved insult like a man. My first reply to you was not insulting, but the tone of your second reply was so I responded in kind. When I "copy pasted" the reply from Rocket it was not to you in the first place, it was to the guy who asked the original question and then you decided that I was just taking the response as gospel. I was just providing a previously available answer that might help the OP, not really trying to pretend I am some developer who knows how to perfectly combat this problem. If you notice in my original reply I even stated if the person is concerned that the standalone will be unable to effectively address the problem then they should hold back until they can confirm the problem is under control. I have hit the limit of my understanding when it comes to the ways to combat the problem so I will refrain from arguing the point, I will say neither of us know how well the standalone will combat these issues so what is the point in the argument in the first place? To me it looks like they are taking the issue seriously, but maybe you see it differently and having a different opinion on something this subjective is not really a reason to get worked up. Have a good day man, sorry for the dickish response since many times tone is hard to detect on internet forums. -
Standalone Hackers, and assurances ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Taiphoz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
AlcApwn, popular games (heroes of Newerth is hardly attracting the same attention as a Dayz or BF3) attract hackers and no I did not try to bypass either one of these services, the only thing I based this statement on was the fact that BF3 has quite a few publicly available hacks that are either hard to detect or not detected (Punkbuster runs this). Comparing apples to oranges with World of Tanks and Dayz, one is a server sided game and I am not sure how well that would work out here. Did I say maphack? No, well than stick to the point man. I will not link hack sites on here but Google is your friend and it will take a few seconds to see the hacks available for that game, which includes several map hack references but since I do not hack and do not want to point people in the right direction to hack you will just have to do the research yourself. When it gets too technical you are right I am out of my element, but I do understand the basics of how these systems work. As far as attaching something to the debugger I never addressed that subject because frankly I am out of my element there, no need to be a dick about something like that dude I bet there is plenty of shit you are unaware of (like common social interaction and understanding tone, way to go full Asperger). If you are so awesome at this why not go out and make an effective anti cheat system? What is that, you just like to pretend you are great at shit online and have nothing to provide beyond armchair quaterbacking, well carry on then. -
Shoot all un-armed bandits on sight.
Zombie Jesus replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Shit that logic goes for everyone, if you mess with someone or accidentally shoot someone (I try not to shoot new spawns but mistakes happen when startled) do not stick around for the inevitable payback. If I have a reason to not trust you I will either shoot you or go a separate direction and eventually take cover and see if you are following. Every time I attempt to be friendly I am reminded why I shoot people most of the time. It has got to the point that I assume the guy talking on side chat is Meta gaming. My one exception to this rule is new spawns, for some reason I find executing these guys to be pointless but I will not lie and say I have never done it. Recently a guy on Panthera walked by and a shot him on reflex and apologized and offered to fix him up, he responded by calling me a douche and was quickly griefed to death (broke his legs and knocked him out, then fixed him up and threw a smoke grenade near him to attract zombies). -
Standalone Hackers, and assurances ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Taiphoz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arguing about measures that have yet to be released is foolish, it looks like they are addressing the issue quite aggressively but the devil will always be in the details. AlcApwn, you keep referencing the Arma 2 engine and I just wanted to make it clear when I asked the question we were talking about the standalone version which is not the same engine. I think they are well aware of what vulnerabilities hackers take advantage of and will attempt to lock down these issues, but only time will tell if they are successful (100% success is an impossible barrier to hit in PC gaming, hackers gonna hack question is will they be easily caught). If every game had this figured out since the 1990's then we have a ton of lazy developers who just want their game ruined by hackers. Lets take the map hack, sure you should not be able to "see" what is not in your FOV but that information is still being sent to you since you have to eventually be able to see these objects. Sure it might not be in your ram, but the information still is communicated to your device so when you are able to see the unit you will need that information. So it is there waiting to be accessed by a clever hacker, trick is to make it harder to access. What hackers do is find a way to access this information and while it should be harder than it is now the map hack is a very common hack in almost every game. Have not seen it confirmed that Battleye will be anti hack software used, but nothing is perfect (punkbuster is not much better). PS, took two seconds to find publicly available hacks for World of Tanks, the hacks are just hard to spot as a player (so not as terrible as current mod hacks that very obvious, but they are there and they will always be there). Edit: Did not want to create a new post to say this but Nik21's post shows terrific understanding of how hacking works. It is not some one and done job and requires constant vigilance which means people will always die from hackers the question is can it be kept to a minimum and detected quickly. Some of us overstate how useless Battleye is, with an engine like Arma 2 I think they are doing everything that could reasonably be expected. -
EXTREMELY irritating bug that doesn't go away
Zombie Jesus replied to shadows101fall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Man that is the exact same problem I had (menu was messed up and all gear not in backpack would delete), honestly it fixed after I downloaded the files again. Do not know why Dayz commander will not work for you but you could always download it again. Don't download shoddy links if you can avoid it (sometimes you can not if you want to get into a new map early) but you could always try to just download everything over again to repair the problem. -
Standalone Hackers, and assurances ?
Zombie Jesus replied to Taiphoz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No game is hacker free, but Dayz suffers from far more hacking than other games due to a very script friendly engine (we should remember this engine helped create the mod so it is not all bad). First you need to realize that since this is a mod of Arma 2 they are limited in fixing the script friendly engine since it runs the risk of breaking the actual game you bought to play Dayz (not starting that discussion but we should at least agree that Dayz is a Mod and there is a separate game that can not be broken for the sake of the mod). So they should focus on fixing things like tents and vehicles (which they largely did) because that was an achievable goal for the mod while fixing hacking beyond what we have seen is impossible as of right now. As far as the steps to combat hacking I asked a similar question and this was the response I got from him. Some of it is technical so not sure if all of it will come across but the gist is not allowing injection of scripts making it easier to identify those who do this. Hope that puts you at ease, but if you are still worried just wait a couple of weeks to buy the standalone and make sure to read up on the issues that are important to you. -
He meant Panthera and another map (Zargabad mabye, smaller takistan like map) are available for download through Dayz Commander as of last night. To OP's question I love Lingor and have grown to like Takistan (but the desert spawns suck, nothing worse than having to run through 3000 meters of terrible desert terrain). Fallujah is still a question mark in my mind, sure it can be fun and the vehicles are cool but the city itself is terrible. Outside of the Airfield the map really does not have a draw so I find myself playing and having fun but wondering what it would be like with some other compelling areas to go. I kind of like the forest feel of Chernarus and Lingor versus the desert maps of Fallujah and Takistan, but that is just a preference (helps that Chernarus and Lingor are both well made maps versus the turd that is Fallujah). Panthera is awesome and might supplant Lingor as my favorite new map. Been having a ton of fun just messing around on the map and with the addition of the Vilayer hive it will only become easier for people to play on (for better or worse).
