Rocket will make a game that is true to his own vision and it will most likely meet the expectations of many DayZ fans and new comers alike. Even if half of the unique users from the Mod buy the game it will be mildly successful and you will have newcomers who were put off by the installation process of the mod in the first place. Then you will have guys like Swine Flu who equate the human tendency to get bored over time with some fascinating decline in interest. You mean to tell me people playing the game from May might be a tad bored with the game, call the press that sounds like some ground breaking news. Also tell us more about how you want him to develop a new engine over two years, sounds like a great way to capitalize on the current success of the mod you are a shrewd businessman. Swine flu is that guy who thinks he deserves everything, how are you surprised that the free mod went on the back burner after the standalone was announced? But this is all speculation, a game will release shortly and how good that game is will make or break the popularity. WarZ could have been popular with a scumbag lead developer (or marketing team, all I know is they constantly lie to paying customers) if they actually delivered, since they have not people are leaving and getting bored within the first month instead of trending upward like DayZ mod at the same point in its life. They do not, most people dislike hackers but gave up raging quite some time ago because it is not worth the effort or frustration. Sure some people will take your hacked gear and even be happy that you gave it to them, but if you asked those same players what they thought about hackers in general the majority answer would not be flattering. I have seen the Santa hackers plenty of times and normally I would just attempt to kill them after they let their guard down (usually ended in my death, but I never care anyways). But most people will just take the gear and some might even defend you after you are killed as the nice hacker, but notice how they had to say nice hacker because we all know that most hackers are douchebags and I am fairly positive that label could have been applied to you on numerous occasions (do not lie and say all of your time was spent giving, you killed people using douchebaggery like the rest of them). At the end of the day I usually felt bad for the Santa hackers, they do not have friends to play with and their people skills are so poor they had to resort to cheating to make in game friends.

I want to play this map but have been busy the past week (saw it announced but never got a link for the download). Watched a video on the map and thought it felt right for Dayz, although I have never been too concerned with that aspect since I actually loved Lingor and Panthera.

No, wait for standalone and see if that is able to seriously reduce hacking incidents. (not directed at you AlcApwn, we had this discussion before and I will prefer to wait and see but by no means do I think it is guaranteed to greatly reduce hacking). Or just play casual and not let the few hack deaths get to you, in general I have had way more fun since I stopped caring what happened to my characters in this game.

There I fixed your comment to say what you really meant. To the OP, if a person is not shooting at you no need to worry. With zombies you should not log, but it reminds me of the question "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around does it make a sound?" Not really hurting anything since those zombies are unable to enjoy the gear anyways, but if pushed I would say it is somewhat of a sissy move. As far as hackers no one is a coward for logging when a legitimate hacker does something (not the guy who thinks everyone who walks up behind him had to teleport to him, more like your original story of the server being teleported). I will stay sometimes for the fun, but other times I do not want to lose my gear to cheaters so not problem there.

So it can be even more of a pay to win game? I can get over the alpha issues (been in development twilit years though) but it is already encouraging buying items like drinks by making thirst ridiculous. It is an alpha already trying to jack money, not a good start.

Yea it happens, just know most of them are perfectly aware that they are huge sissies. As a newb I did it twice in combat and was told by an IRL friend that it was a bitch move and I responded that each time I felt like a bitch. When I started taking my legitimate deaths I actually had more fun and gained a new respect for the game, so in reality they are the ones missing out on an awesome game. If I see who it is I will shame them later if side chat is enabled (pay attention to the timed out message from battleye that pops up after someone disconnects), hell I actually got two people banned from a private server over the weekend due to them being repeat offenders. It was way too funny to see them protest followed quickly by the banhammer. Zombie Jesus is not without sin and I would like to publicly repent for my shameful act of extreme douchebaggery.

Skat3rat, I still feel bad for you about losing your CD Key but I still think you should log out jumping off a building every time, just for the lolz. If it happens again you need to run fraps.

I am sorry but all of the new maps are built for PvP. Why would they have all of those military spawns if it was not meant for easy access to good gear, unless you think zombies require high tier weapons. Find a private hive that puts an emphasis on PvE, I have joined a few lately that will kick people for griefing and killing new spawns (make sure it is a non vilayer server though, when people can server hop they will do this and shoot people regardless of the rules). While the one I play is definitely bandit friendly, they are not tolerant of new spawn snipers.

Teamspeak, mumble, and skype are free. Not sure about vent, I think it has a free version but I might be wrong.

If you give gamers a gun and allow them to shoot other players you will always see this, no amount of difficulty will change the fact that it is fun to kill real players. You can cut down on this, but in reality we will learn the new infected and how to deal with them and then move onto the real threat, a guy with painkillers who had the audacity to run into my FOV.

I also could not take this poll in good conscience since I truly enjoy and understand both playstyles. Sometimes I am not in the mood for banditry or for that matter being friendly to other survivors, these are my feral lone wolf nights where I just kill zombies and gather gear. Other nights I am in the mood for being a shameless bandit on one of the many non Chernarus maps, not saying I disagree with banditry on Chernarus I just tend to play friendly on that map and have a towel on all others. Then there are the nights where I want to team up and meet random players, can be fun but is also very frustrating at times, just luck of the draw. As long as you are not hacking or duping I actually do not care how you play, well maybe with the exception of people who purposefully hunt new spawns (spawn campers and those who look to shoot the unarmed not those who just do it because it was convenient).

When you say pretty common what you mean is it almost never happens except to you and the three other people who only play in first person on servers where both are enabled right? I am joking but have you ever wondered why servers that have third person removed are always usually low population? Man today is a bad day for Dayz foruming. It is an unpopular server option for a reason, the player base has spoken and they like third person. I normally prefer first person over third person, but in this game I hate doing anything but fighting in first person and yes I have turned head bob off and it mildly helps. I do not know what makes me hate first person so much in this game and this game only, but it bothers me. If the standalone makes first person better maybe I will switch back to my normal comfort zone, but they should still make it a server option and not force it on the entire community. Your personal preference is just that, your preference. Stop pretending everyone else has to share that preference.

I will address this point by point, realize I am not talking shit or flaming just offering a different perspective. 1. Up for debate, they sell server hosting and provide files for publicly available and free content. Just because other server hosters have not made it easy on their client's does not mean this is illegal. It is on the edge though and is dangerously close to infringement, especially if he changed anything in the actual map file (not the mod files, that is fine) which could be fixed fairly quickly. You guys need to understand the entire legal profession is about splitting hairs, so while some of you (Rouge one makes a similar argument) think it sounds similar it is not. 2. Do not really disagree except for the illegal part. 3. If you are good at making maps you should look to monetize that. What is so wrong with making money, we all have to do it and it sounds like Icebreaker (I am sure I misspelled this) is good at what he does and should use these awesome maps to springboard into a paid position or to do freelance work for pay. There is still the incentive for those breaking in to make free maps, but when you are good at what you do you should probably be charging anyways. Gamers are not charity cases. 4. Mod is open to the community at this point so this will continue to happen. If you have no problem with DayZ DIAF or Survive Dayz mod then this should not be an issue either. I do agree that I would like to see it be cross compatible and that is somewhat of a problem. 5. Dayz commander definitely is not legally responsible and beyond that they are an excellent tool for those who are not that PC savvy. This is an opinion from both of us but I definitely disagree with your position here. 6. Somewhat agreed, they should ask permission and not because they necessarily have to but because it would be the right thing to do. Man this thread is raising my rage levels to dangerous levels, attacking a great tool like Dayz commander because they have the tiniest link for server hosting by Vilayer is crazy stupid. This right here is why we can not have nice things. That is it, I am going to WarZ where everyone is perfectly fine with stealing ideas (kidding).

As far as your liability goes you have nothing to worry about, in fact Vilayer probably has nothing to worry about either. There is a whole bunch of amateur lawyering going on in this thread and the majority of it is flat out wrong. Do not do anything drastic unless a someone with more than internet forum authority says something, even then most cease and desist letters are garbage and are not worth the paper they are printed on. Remember you are doing nothing wrong, Vilayer might (but like I said most likely not) be something that they could be held liable for you are just providing a launcher. By the way I do love the launcher, great tool for the community and these forums are not a great indicator about how the general Dayz player feels.

I am avoiding the Vilayer points on purpose because I think they are walking a very fine line that is borders on being an infringement. I actually appreciate some of what they are doing and would be a bald faced liar if I said I try to avoid their servers, having a private hive will make me forget about some of the other issues very quickly. If they actually were sued they would use the argument that I posted before, they sell server hosting and provide free maps and mods to clients all of which are available elsewhere. Clients are not paying for the maps, they are paying for the hosting service. I am not saying what they are doing is cool, I am just admitting that from a legal perspective (well at least in my country, this stuff becomes a crazy mess when you look at every countries rules on content) they have done nothing wrong. Dayz commander would have to be crazy not to use the tools provided by Vilayer, sometimes you sacrifice to make something broadly available and people who complain about a subtle link included in the launcher are being babies. You can find the non Vilayer servers for these maps using Dayz commander, it is just harder to do. Personally I love Dayz commander due to the ease despite knowing how to download all of this independently (which I usually do to check out these maps well ahead of release by Vilayer). Hell if pushed I would say I sort of enjoy the service Vilayer provides, but I would have my reservations like many here as well.

Personal preference is just that, a preference. The marketplace of ideas should remain unfettered despite your personal distaste for specific vehicles or server hosts. If the vehicles added are unpopular and people hate them then the service that offers this will lose, since it seems to be relatively popular I think the community has spoken over the objections of purists. The Mod has been opened up, so you will see people mod the files to make it more hardcore as well as those who will mod the files to add extra content that some would label "casual" while I would use the word fun (I admit it might take away something from the original experience, but we are far beyond that at this point anyways). I actually enjoy both types, sometimes I just want some fun and I jump on a high vehicle count server and go to town and kill people without a care in the world, other times I enjoy the grind of a more hardcore environment. Those who hate Vilayer I have a little bit of hard news, nothing is going to happen and they will most likely remain a popular hosting service.

More proof that some of us just do not understand how capitalism works. If I own a server hosting company I will do everything in my power to attract more clients than the competition. If the competition is slow to react then they get left in the dust. I am not saying rebranding maps (which I too dislike) is a good thing, I am just saying this falls into the no shit category of life. I get why it might rub the creator the wrong way, but from a legal perspective all Vilayer is "selling" is server hosting with existing content. They are not selling the map, they are offering a free mod of the map to server owners. It is one of the main draws to renting a server from Vilayer, but it is not the service you are paying for so in a legal sense it is fine.

Evil and dishonest are two different things, rebranding someone's work is dishonest, kicking puppies is evil. At worst Dayz Commander is just being lazy in taking the path of least resistance and since it is a free launcher I find it hard to be mad that they have taken this path.
