    Standalone Unintended Consequences

Used to, but I took a month break and news about the standalone drew me back into the mod around December.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

Man you guys all play on some terrible private hives if admin abuse is really that prevalent, search around for a good private hive I can even think of several posters in here who have a great private hive in their signature where you would never be banned for killing an admin legit (Balota Buddies a great set of private servers). The one issue I have with the idea that modding of the mod is bad is that it has sustained this mod for quite some time. If I was left with only vanilla Chernarus with zero modification I would not play nearly as much as I currently play. I had a ton of fun on vanilla DayZ but playing only that since late May would burn me out completely on that map and that experience, the variety of maps has added value to DayZ that continues to draw people into the game. Even a few slight modifications can add so much to these servers, add some barracks around the map to make more than one point of interest and some extra vehicles to fix up. If the server is healthy having the minimum amount of vehicles usually means there are no vehicles to be found, adding a few extra seems like a realistic addition to gameplay (not the servers with 500 vehicles all fully repaired). Not a huge fan of starting gear but I will say I enjoy a few modifications to the server that add to the environment.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

Just play on Balota Buddies...oh wait. I enjoy the variety of the DayZ experience but you are the first person to point out many of the newer players have been deprived of vanilla DayZ. I remember getting so excited when my group managed to find two off road trucks and a Ural on a single server. We spent over two weeks finding the vehicles and setting up a camp. We treated these vehicles like precious gold and my buddy was legitimately upset when I flipped one of the off road trucks. Now when we play we are usually on the anzuswargames servers that have epic bases with loot boxes, hundreds of vehicles, and some starting gear (crossbow, hunting knife, compass, a water bottle, and some food) and finding a decent weapon and vehicle is fairly easy. It comes down to finding a toolbox and then we are off to the races and while it is fun for PvP and a more casual experience I find myself getting bored with the lack of objectives at times. I hope new players try out the vanilla servers just so they can prepare themselves for a much stricter environment in the standalone. But as I pointed out I am a dirty hypocrite, I enjoy messing around with buddies on the more casual servers but I also appreciate the servers with less easy access to gear.
  4. I gave beans just for the laugh I got from the thought of someone telling the ocean to STFU. But you do have a point, it is a survival game but I really do not think the zombies are going to be that hard to lose after you get used to them. I played the new patch last night and after the initial oh shit factor wore off I just ran through a building or ran into the forest to shoot them in relative safety while backpedaling. I think adding onto the difficulty is always a good thing so you will not hear me complain about too much in this patch, but I will say I will never crawl on the ground except in extreme circumstances. I would rather be loud as hell dispatching zombies than crawl for thirty minutes on a loot run.

    New Combat Roll Animation

While reading this all I could think about was combat rolling the second I am in combat next time. Because yes I am that douche (not really I just think it would be funny the first time). We really did need something besides the whisper kick but I am not sure this animation and action are the perfect fit. I know some people hate jumping but being glued to the ground does not scream realism either so I guess I can live with a less than perfect fix. I just hope they refine this animation or opt for a running jump of some sort. Edit: The shacktac bunny hop looks much better.

They gave me keys to a US server, Whitelisted come in

Joined the server about a week ago and it has been a blast. On the third day I found a little bird, gassed it up, and then got someone killed by saying the Heli was friendly. Jumped into teamspeak with the guys who killed him and while checking a Huey at the NEAF was sniped by someone and the guys in the other Heli went out for revenge. Instead they ended up killing Steak and Potatoes and a couple of his squad when I am fairly certain they had nothing to do with my death. Great server and hands down best artwork for a server ever posted, that picture had everything. It has Murica, fighting bears, a Delorean, and a Bald Eagle with the sparkle of the Murican flag shining back on whoever stares at its glorious visage. You would have to be crazy to pass up that advertisement.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

Helpful advice to those who display patience, wait a few days to update. If the patch is unstable or causes Battleye restrictions then why go through the headache when you can just as easily wait a few days. I am looking forward to some of these changes but I am also hoping that my home servers hold off a week to change over so I can sit back and allow others to go through the frustration of new bugs and glitches.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

Blasphemy, go say ten hail rockets and light a candle as your penance. The skeptical dick part of me that likes to shit over everything that I find annoying so wants to agree with you, but in this one instance I do respect what Rocket does and says so I guess I am a cult member. Now time to drink my Kool Aid that was promised to bring me into the closed technical test on the space Rocket.

    A new DayZ

Would be insane as a mod to far cry 3 (if they allowed modding), but I would love to see an open world dinosaur mod/game.
  10. If it ever happens just retrace your steps. Now if it is a helicopter then you are screwed but otherwise it is normally fairly close.
  11. It would be cool the first couple of times but when the novelty wears off you are left with a dull mechanic.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

That is so far down the road and depends on so many factors that it is barely worth mentioning, but even if that did happen after commercial success in the PC market I would not see it being a huge problem. Maybe they can suffer through a poor port like PC gamers constantly have to suffer through poorly ported console games. Also making money in an honest fashion from a good product is hardly worth demeaning, if he gets rich making awesome games it would be well deserved. If he follows the (redacted) zombie game mode and rushes a bad product out with false information then we should view it as a cash grab.
  13. To have a terrible...cough...I mean safe experience.
  14. Have plenty of similar experiences with the ATV, even when I find them completely repaired I know it will be sheer luck to go farther than 1000 meters before it flips. If you are able to park one on the coast next to a train track (big if) you can leave it there and grief other players who will undoubtedly get on and instantly flip the thing.
  15. If the game was a buggy unplayable mess on release more people would lose interest, they only get one shot at putting out the right product and if done correctly I am sure most people will quickly find their interest renewed.

    Zombie sounds :l

Only if they keep the "fuck that hurt" sound.

Where have you found your NVG's?

No, I meant to whisper kick just like I meant to roll off that roof.
  18. Active admins and a variety of maps. Not a huge fan of whitelisting (my month old Balota Buddies application is proof of this, tried a few times to go into teamspeak but I have bad timing apparently) but I do understand why many private communities use this tool. I can take or leave the starting gear, finding decent stuff is really not that hard after you get the hang of the game but I do enjoy easy access to vehicles. I am starting to rethink my aversion to whitelisting though, the private servers I have been frequenting lately (anzuswargames) have become very popular and with those full server lists the hackers have been getting a little more prevalent. They are very quick to drop the banhammer and even have extra detection but another layer of protection could be effective but would also drop server population so a double edged sword. Edit: Nice to see Derpy Hooves, been awhile since I saw a post from him and was starting to worry. Edit: Whitelisted last night and had a blast. Not that hard of a process, I am just lazy but it was quick and painless.

    A question about zombies...

No those actually look like Deer stands where hunters go to shoot deer. Like I said as soon as we start thinking too deep into a fictional monster in a video game we have already gone too far. It is like pointing out plot holes in TV and Cinema, it is insanely easy to do for most stories so why even go down that road (worst one I have recently watched was Looper, it made my head hurt by the end).

    A Range Of Behavior

My buddies are unrepentant bandits when playing while I can actually be friendly in the right situations. So if I am solo and a player helps me or is being friendly I tend to not engage in banditry (well I never kill people who help me or offer a ride, I stick to my word in game), but if my buddies are on I often take the shoot first mentality that they display. It is not that I am only bandit brave when buddies are around, it just happens that I already have a team and since they are going to shoot you anyways I might as well get in on the action. Also having a buddy on the game tends to remove some of the extreme boredom that sets in with solo DayZ play so I am no longer in the mood to take risks that will cause me to take a long journey back to my buddies.

    A question about zombies...

You are thinking way too hard about fictional zombies. Others in a series of over thinking the zombie apocalypse. Would they not just starve. If I am able to rarely die to zombies how did any advanced military get overrun. This food would be so bad by now. etc. Edit: Infected sounds like another name for zombies. They definitely have a skin condition and look pretty rotten, especially some of their faces.

    Hackers are not the enemy!

Even though this is a Necro thread I will say there are quite a few rocks in DayZ that deserve a bandit turban.

    Island off-map

Oh it is there, been teleported to it a couple of times and once was before the game would log you back on the coast, one of the worst times I have ever had in this game was having a buddy pick me up in a slow ass fishing boat to make the journey back.

    Modception and DayZ copyright.

What Smash said, I doubt Rocket is going to get heavy handed with mods unless someone is using them for direct financial gain using his coding. Modding is something that happens quite a bit in Arma circles, knee capping this awesome feature just to maintain tight control over the DayZ mod experience would be a huge departure for both Rocket and BI. Even if a mod "makes him look bad" I would say you take the good with the bad. Why lock down a project that was built from modding, would seem somewhat arrogant to do this to the mod (standalone is his choice, even there I would love to see modding eventually even if it has to wait awhile).
