Being reasonable on the internet rarely happens, it would be great if this led to a reasonable discussion from all parties that resulted in a fair outcome all parties agreed on. I am going to sidestep the main issue and ask how the quiver has been implemented. Too many posts are talking about the relatively inconsequential food names that really do not have an effect on gameplay and very little discussion on the actual content. Less than what most servers have now but a few more than the original mod included would be nice. On a server with a healthy population it was next to impossible to find a car to fix up. In my first month I found one natural bicycle spawn, other than that all of my vehicles were stolen from other players.

They mean Zombie AI, zombie skeletons, player inventory, animations, etc. will be completely redone. If you have never played the mod then you are unaware of how glitchy some of these features are currently that are screaming for a complete reworking. Lets take the zombies, they have soldier path finding so when they see you they attempt to flank your character. They are also just Arma II soldiers with zombie skin so to they increased their speed which makes them run like meth addicts. While they are still fun and workable for a mod, putting out a paid game with that zombie AI would put it on par with WarZ (well not really that bad, but it would be lazy). Lucky for all of us the DayZ developers have more pride in their work so they are looking for a complete overhaul of zombies and other issues from the mod. Since you are new to the forum, have some beans and always remember WarZ shall never be spoken of as an equal to DayZ on here.

DayZcommander is still your best bet for ease of access to all the maps, versions and patches. There is the main public hive, but that is fairly infected with hackers and allows less admin control. Private servers are everywhere and some private server hosts like Vilayer have their own hive to transfer gear between servers. If you want to truly avoid most hackers then you can find a private whitelisted server, but I have found plenty of open private servers have great admins that are on top of hacking and keep it at a very low level. For the most protection you go through private whitelisted servers, but if seeing a hacker once in awhile is not a huge deal you can take your chances on well run private servers. Lingor, Namalsk, and Taviana servers with extra additions like bases.

Hard to say, you are asking a bunch of fans whether they think you should buy the game they enjoy. I will say you might be better served by just waiting for the standalone though, you will get the benefit of being in an environment you are completely unfamiliar with. There will most likely be a large number of other new players so the experience might be more enjoyable than finally catching on to the Mod only to get killed by someone who is just bored. Because Arma II is very old. I bought Arma II just for DayZ, but I am glad I did because it opened me up to Arma itself and I now count myself as a fan of the series and eagerly await Arma III.

The game is tapering off but that is to be expected, most games have trouble retaining players for a long periods and I fail to see why a free mod would be the exception to that rule. Add in the fact that the standalone will be coming out (hopefully) soon and those who are interested have a strong incentive to wait for the actual release of the standalone. Arma 3 is coming out (hopefully) this year so you have less people who can justify buying Arma 2 and OA for either the mod experience or Arma experience. You can still find a healthy population in many of the private hives and even some of the public hives so it is not like the DayZ mod is dead. Inception obviously has a fan on these forums, that is some great foruming there cfh0384.

Do not hide it on skalisty island unless you enjoy swimming (I literally quit playing the Panthera map due to getting stuck out in the ocean), it might remain safe for awhile but eventually someone is going to check it out and you are left with swim back to the mainland. When I Helicopter hunt I look in clearings up North, so you pretty much have to come to the conclusion that someone will eventually jack your helicopter. I like to destroy the main rotor and log off with a spare in my pack, but even then I have had the Helicopter jacked while offline.

I knew you guys had been too quiet. Really looking forward to the broader technical test, I am starting to get gamer withdrawl syndrome (AKA a life).

I have just been telling people to use DayZcommander over Steam, makes navigating the mod fairly simple. Once they work out the kinks it will be a good way to get more people into DayZ since many are still wary of obscure third party programs like DayZcommander that tend to set off alarm bells on anti virus and firewall software. I believe they might have opened up a single small server or are planning to do so very soon. The broader closed test has not started yet, although some the mods have been quiet for a few days so maybe it means they have something better to do in a limited access closed test (speculation). It sounds like the test will be released slowly for those invited, so it starts with just a few of the 1,000 or so invited getting access and will eventually open up to even more testers to stress test the server(s). Once all the technical testers get access I would say it is close to releasing a more public version, but until then I would not read too much into a small test group.

Balotabuddies.net has good private whitelisted servers. Been on there a week or two and no hacking incidents plus the Australian and American servers are well populated.

It is about risk vs reward. What are you risking as a new spawn by going into one of the two major coastal cities, for myself I never care if I die after five minutes by attempting to get geared up because I am risking a flashlight and a bandage. I like to at least have a map and a better backpack before making my way north, hitting the industrial spawns can also yield a vital toolbox that is hard to find in the north. Guns are easy to find on the trip north so if the city seems sketchy I might just skip the fire station and hit up some deer stands with my newly acquired map.

One word, unforgiving. One sentence. Long periods of what would seem like mundane looting and running punctuated by adrenaline inducing encounters with other players. How do I feel while playing the game, sometimes I feel like a huge dick who goes out of his way to ruin hours of hard work by shooting a well geared survivor/bandit/hero. Other times you can feel generous by helping out new spawns with a ride or gear. It really depends on what mood I am in and how long I can actually play for that session. But no matter what Shadow man nailed the prevalent feeling throughout any session of DayZ (well at least on a populated server), stress.

We all love ourselves on occasion. Who cares though, I look forward to shooting him or being shot by him in the standalone. It is all in the name of fun. Edit: I also never change names and play as Zombie Jesus, I hope to see you early on in the test at the end of my barrel.

For the official hive just hide unofficial servers (the icon is a cloud next to the server name). I do not think you can filter for just the Vilayer hive servers but you could always type Vilayer into the search. That used to work better but now many servers do not label it with Vilayer, but you will still find some of them this way.

I heard if you sleep in one of his shirts he throws out you get early access to the standalone.

Expect the closed testing to begin between tomorrow and the end of time.
