I will go somewhat against the grain and say I like the diversity of the mod and it is one of the reasons I have found myself coming back even after swearing off DayZ mod forever on multiple occasions. If enough content is released through updates it will keep players interested for the first six months or so and at that point I would love to see some mods and user content start to spring up. But where I disagree with the OP is the idea that somehow not having private hives or user generated content for the initial builds is somehow going to "kill" the standalone, if Rocket makes a good game people will come (if you build it they will come). DayZ is about merit, the mod came out of no where and blew up so there is some hype that surrounds the game but it does not have the luxury of being CoD with a huge fan base who will buy whatever Activision dumps out next. So if the game sucks and lacks compelling content it will fail, but since none of us have seen the final product making a prediction right now is useless.

It is being developed on PC first, so at worst you get to finally laugh at console users for getting a ported game. If the game was currently being developed for both I would be more worried, but if the plan is to consider a console port if it is popular on PC that is just basic economics and the realization that next gen consoles might be able to handle a game like DayZ.

I will admit that I had been death logging for months without knowing. I tend to call it a game after I die and I never saw a reason to stick around and talk with the person who just killed me so I would just quickly abort and disconnect. It took someone actually telling me it made my body vanish for me to realize I was disconnecting too quickly even though I was not alt F4ing or attempting to combat log. So while some people might be trying to be jerks about it I suspect many people were just rage quitting like myself after taking a death without knowing our loot was disappearing.

You think everything is cheating though, so to meet your standards would be impossible in the first place. Also were you not educated enough to understand what nuance means or to understand the concept? But even if I accepted your argument that it is cheating, I would just say get over it because it is now just reality.

It is a game and games are supposed to be fun and social. At some point we need to turn off that urge to scream "but realism" and realize something like being able to communicate with your friends/teammates is a basic function in most multiplayer games. Arma 2 communication system sucks, so players are forced to go to these third party programs. Beyond it being a fact that really can not be changed, it should not be changed. Being a lone wolf is the persons choice, they have the exact same access to TS, Skype etc. as other players and just make the decision not to find a group. I am saying this as someone who has been a lone wolf for at least 50% of my time in DayZ, I really only like playing with IRL friends and most of them are over DayZ at this point. It is a playstyle of choice, I would not want to punish others just because I made that choice.

If none of that works just download Arma 2 again from Steam, had a similar problem and just bit the bullet and that seemed to fix the issue.

Even though most people will shoot you on sight there is still far more things to do in DayZ than in WarZ. The map is much larger and you can spend time fixing up vehicles or setting up a base camp, plus with VOIP you will have a better chance of a friendly encounter. Just try not to yell I am friendly while standing still in the open, it is just an invitation to kill you. Get to cover then start talking to the person. Since standalone is still fairly far off in the horizon I would pick up Arma 2 OA whenever it goes on sale next and have some fun in the mod. There is a ton of maps and Arma 2 is a good game as well. Just be prepared for some awkward (at first) controls and some bugs, it is the Arma way.

So OP hates KoS players and lumps them all in as CoD kids, then OP admits he now shoots on sight due to past experiences. So the obvious question, what makes you special and unique? You have to at least understand that many of us used to be more friendly but now would rather get the first shot off instead of risk death. It is the natural progression for most players, you start out and want to explore and have encounters until you grow bored and overloaded with military loot and want to mix in some PvP. Then again this has been the mantra on here since summer so I do not even know why I bother.

It is never lying to push a release date, he just should not even say a month if he is unsure. He has been down this road before and knows first hand it leads to butthurt, so if he is not confident he should just keep saying hopefully this year and leave it at that.

To add onto the idea that June is a bad release time I will remind everyone that DayZ mod popularity skyrocketed during the summer months in 2012 by word of mouth. It will be released as an Alpha and will gain steam most likely through merit and a small marketing budget, it is not Call of Battlefield 11 after all. Hopefully Dean is smart enough to know putting a date out into the wind and not meeting it a second time would be bad business though, a small delay is not much but pushing it back to the fourth quarter of 2013 would kill the momentum of the project and leave a bad taste for those supporting the game. Plus it would go against the major releases for that same period, I might not like CoD but I love Battlefield and would hate to split time. At least now I can stop waiting patiently for the closed test to start and move on to other games for awhile without thinking it will start imminently.

You only need CO you can download the free version of Arma II to play DayZ. Arma II OA is on sale for so cheap right now so I normally say wait but the deal is too good to pass up. .

Problem is the CoD @#%$%$#@ do jump on. The one time I played on a PvE server I was killed by a chopper that I could have brought down with a M107. They admitted they were just gearing up for PvP and could care less if they were banned. Also it has been almost a year, can we stop blaming CoD for everything yet? I hate the game as much as the next hipster elitist, but it does not cause HIV cancer so give that played out reference a rest.
