I want to start a slow clap for this one. Half of the posts on this forum are from people who think their style is the best while all others are cheap noobs who should go back to CoD, My Little Pony, or Mount and Blade (I am pretty sure no one has ever said the last one, just had to get in a Mount and Blade reference). Variety is the spice of life, there are servers out there that cater to all the DayZ tastes and I will never understand why so many players think other people having fun is a crime. It is clearly because they are Nazi sympathizers.

I get what you guys are arguing, but I think you lay the blame at the feet of modding in an incorrect manner considering modding is the very activity that brought us DayZ in the first place. In my humble opinion modding is an important and awesome part of the PC gaming experience that is too often cast aside for a host of reasons. Since the standalone will have a better lock on the game there could always be a submission process for any mod to be on the official server list allowing the devs to retain the feel of DayZ while giving the community the chance to tweak the game. Two more posts until I prove I have wasted over 1,000 posts worth of time on a game forum.

It truly is a moot point anyways, we are playing a mod where most servers are modified from the current patch. There will be plenty of servers that add guns to the loot table after (if) the next patch hits. So if they do go through with removing the .50 cal guns many servers will just add them to the loot table while other servers will play with the unmodified loot tables. That is the beauty of the mod, there is variety. What gun is that? Also I will fully admit I am that moron running around with a DMR and M14 in my pack even though I rarely snipe. I do find it funny that I sound like I am defending guns I truly am not that fond of in the first place, I have always loved the M24 and SVD for sniping and even then I am way to impatient to be an effective sniper. I do agree that the AS50 is a terrible weapon though, it definitely could use some tweaks that make it an ineffective close quarter combat weapon.

Both sides are prone to nonsense though, go read through some of Xianyu's well thought out posts on the subject (heavy sarcasm intended). That other guy is lying, you can equip the chicken in your primary gun slot and shoot eggs at other survivors. Once you find a knife you have a choice between making wings (they have boneless and traditional) or a KFC 8 Piece Bucket. I go with the 8 piece bucket but that is just preference.

If the closed Alpha is pushed any further than this Summer I could see many people not returning at all. The cat is out of the bag, more open world PvP games are going to be dropping in the next year and the standalone has a tight window to seem innovative instead of getting lost in the barrage. Plus I highly doubt DayZ standalone wants to compete during the Winter quarter, best option is starting a limited release alpha followed by a paid Beta and finally the "release." Arma 3 already has a DayZ port and within a couple of months that port will be bug fixed and ready for even more modding. But who really cares, they are vastly over their initial projections so anyone making guesses right now (including myself) is just talking out of their ass. I just hope it ends up being worth the wait.

That crafting model is way too complex so I will propose the alternative method. Step 1: find a gun. Step 2: Use the gun to kill the sucker who spent hours crafting a better gun.

Short answer, find new mechanics to exploit. Longer answer, learn new zombie mechanics to find easy ways to kill them, if their path finding goes in a straighter line headshots will be easy or I will just run backwards spraying them like a noob. For finding players, look for zombie aggro. I actually look forward to the removal of the zombie spawn feature for persistent zombie spawns. It will make the game more tense to know there is always a chance a player has been hiding in a building the whole time waiting.

I hate it when players tell me to drop my weapon, I would much prefer someone telling me not to look their way or telling me exit the area if I wanted to live. If I have an awesome kit I might comply with the drop your weapon technique (better hope I do not have a satchel charge though, I love a good suicide bombing) otherwise I am going to attempt to murder you somehow. I might put the gun down and get in my pack to pull another out the second you make a mistake. So after saying this if I am not shooting on sight I like to take cover with a decent shot lined up before making contact. I will never turn on someone who uses this tactic on me even if I am in a bandit mood and I have found this to be the best strategy for making contact. Most people understand you could have killed them and they might return the favor, but if the person seems shifty or unresponsive I will just back away. Sometimes it results in teaming up for awhile.

Never, I will not be constrained by the man's rules and regulations. On a serious note, people are entitled to opinions, especially on something that has yet to release. I loved the mod but I am somewhat over playing it now and despite my great enjoyment with the mod I could see a scenario where the standalone fails to impress. I think it will impress and should continue to get better as development sounds like it will continue well after the initial release, but maybe it ends up feeling like a slightly tweaked port of the mod to a modified engine and ends up being a disappointment. Regardless of the outcome I will look at DayZ as a success, even if it was just a fun mod that helped show a market existed for similar games in the future. At this point the forums are made up of a dwindling player base getting into arguments over small issues that do not matter. TheMachine is free to be worried about the success of the standalone and I actually see where he is coming from despite the fact that I hold a different opinion. It will never be settled on a forum, the only thing that will settle this issue is playing the actual game once it releases. If it sucks, it sucks. If it is great, people will buy it and it will be successful.

What justifies it, it is a game. Find like minded individuals if you want a server that fits all of your needs, otherwise stop being the guy who thinks all of his views are always correct. Variety is the spice of life, find your niche and leave everyone else alone.

I people watch all the time in DayZ. One time I was just watching a group loot a town thinking to myself I could easily murder at least one of them if not all and after watching for around five minutes I turn around and run into a guy watching me 100 meters away. When I talked to him he said he was just scoping me out watching the guys in town ready to shoot me if I attacked them and I had to laugh, he was watching me watch people.

I always shoot out tires to make it harder to steal a hidden vehicle and on slopes they usually end up sliding down. When you first shoot them out they typically slide a little and maybe on restart the vehicles do the same thing. I parked a offroad pickup in black forest about 15 meters from the tree line on a hill and when I came back two days later it was about 20 meters down the hill in a clearing.

I always find this position to be strange, here we are fans of a game born from modding and people are actually against modding. I understand some of the concerns with the crazy starting gear and extra vehicles (although within reason I think the vanilla DayZ servers never had enough to begin with, but that is just a difference of opinion), but user generated content has brought so much to the mod that I think many miss all the good. All of the maps would not be possible without user generated content and while some of the extra additions might not be up your alley they can add quite a bit to the game. Adding in extra points of interest to a Chernarus server can liven it up, instead of just focusing on the run up to the NWAF or Stary you could add a couple of barracks to the NEAF and suddenly have two norther points of interest. You can add bases with unique features or gear that groups can fight over and even though I do not love Origins myself (mostly due to the people who run the mod being control freaks), some of the changes they have made ended up adding quite a bit of content.

Oh I am sorry, I did not know that calling it fucking hilarious to not call it cheating and then calling anyone who takes that stance 12 year old was an invitation for an adult conversation. My bad apparently I do not understand tone, so was that tone one of rational discussion or hostility? Now on to an actual rational discussion, I see where you are coming from up to a point and that point is making a blanket statement on using these programs as cheating. Is it against the TOS to use these programs? Can using these programs result in a global ban? The problem I see is there is no functioning system in the game for group play (how do you meet up, even the map markers are unrealistic did that X with text show up through magic) and these programs fix that shortfall. So if I am using it for social interaction and meeting up with a group I fail to see that as cheating. If I am using it to achieve true "ghosting" (not what DayZ players turned the word into but when you relay information when you are dead or should otherwise be knocked out of the fight) then I would call that cheating. Unfortunately the Arma 2 and DayZ communication system is terrible, so unless that oversight is fixed these third party programs are naturally going to fill the void. So my biggest problem with what you said was how you said it (frankly like a dick) and the absolutist statement you made. Ghosting is cheating, using TS, Skype, etc is not automatically cheating. See the nuance?
