    This isn't a new concept mate, it common in game development... They're using it as a STARTING POINT and re-writing many of the critical things, tailoring it to suit the needs of DayZ.

    Haha, that made me chuckle. Debating the engine they started out with at this point is all a bit pointless anyway tbh because by the time they're done with it, it will be something entirely different. It already is really. Saying "it'll be as bad as Arma2 because it uses the same engine" is just wrong. Arma 3 also used the RV3 engine as a starting point and by the time they'de finished it was called the RV4 engine. By the time DayZ is finished it will be using the "DayZ Engine" or whatever they'll call it.

The free version of Arma 2 has much lower res. textures for player models, weapons, the main map of Chernarus itself and lower quality sounds for many of the weapons etc. In general it just looks a lot worse than the full version. Regarding not finding many servers there's a couple of thousand of them so it sounds like you're doing something wrong. Download DayZ Commander, it'll help you a lot. It's free 3rd party software that will allow you to browse all available servers and it's an easy way to keep all of your files up to date and download extra maps etc. Regarding your performance if it's lag then that's related to your connection (or a bad server) so use Commander to find one with a lower "ping". If it's low FPS then that's an actual performance issue, Arma 2 and DayZ are very intensive games to run (especially for your CPU) so make sure your PC can handle it. Edit - Actually, what is it that you're playing? It doesn't sound like you're playing DayZ :/

    Yeh see that's where it's all gone a bit wrong for me tbh. As soon as people have had a sniff that there's money to be made by riding on the coat-tails of a popular mod it's all gone a bit wrong imo. I agree that the sub-mods have kept DayZ going while they work on the SA but that can't be used as an excuse for some of the less than savoury stuff we see going on involving making money out of other peoples work. Edit - Oh and soz if it looks like we're ganging up on you, we're not =) It's just the forums are stupidly quiet atm and it's interesting to see what somebody close to the dev team thinks about these things.

    Yeh, that I agree with although a large chunk of the playerbase isn't very well informed about behind the scenes stuff which put's the mod developers in a position to get away with all sorts of shit. I don't think "trolling" should be confused with people that have legitimate concerns either. I don't think I'll be playing.... Good luck with your vids though =)

    I wasn't having a dig at you btw, I just found it strange to have an interview like that with the lead dev of a popular mod (you're friend?) and completely ignore the elephant in the room. Just makes it seem like more of a promotional thing as opposed to a legit interview. It'd be like me interviewing Rocket and only wanting to talk about the cool stuff while ignoring the broken zeds etc. Just my opinion though, maybe it was all dealt with over at Reddit, I rarely visit there so have no idea.

    That's not how I understand it, no. Things will still spawn. For example, if you clear a town of zeds the town will stay clear, but if players then move away from the town the zeds will spawn again. Also, loot will be handled by a global loot table which is fundamentally different to the mod but tbh I really have no idea what that means in terms of how or when things spawn. In short, I haven't got a clue :/

    I have literally no technical knowledge of servers etc whatsoever but I thought the constant server restarts needed in the mod etc were a side-effect of the way the mod+Arma handles things. I'm hoping that the new method and engine overhaul makes this much less of an issue but It'd be interesting to hear from someone that understands these things as to what we can expect.

    Nope, not even close. Trying to put words in peoples mouths is never a good idea. If anything you're giving Rocket way too much credit for having this grand vision of something he wanted to create. DayZ was a fluke, an awesome one but a fluke nevertheless. It started out as a technical project to experiment with persistent characters in the RV engine and the survival element was experimented with for military training/purposes etc. I'm aware of his interviews about his survival training and so on but the facts are that he dropped zeds in and opened a couple of servers pretty much as an experiment and just for fun because he never really expected more than a couple of hundred people to even see it or play it. That's why I say it's an experiment. Sure it's become this beast he's having to wrestle with now and the KOS "issue" is only an issue by virtue of it's success. If you look at what's being developed for the SA it still is an experiment but now he has the resources and time to try some new ideas and hopefully achieve the potential that he never even knew the mod had to begin with. It's a sandbox environment/game. It's a double edged sword. You can't make an open game like this and then try to dictate how people play it or use the tools they're given. Of course you can mess with the tools they have available to them and see if that affects what happens. I think the SA will change player behaviour in many ways, it's very different to play in terms of what your priorities are just to stay alive but we're naive if we think the KOS issue will go away, it's a legitimate playstyle. It's not a playstlye I enjoy at all but getting my knickers in a twist about it because others enjoy playing it that way isn't going to make my day any brighter.

    Many players sole aim in the game is to hunt for heli's vehicles etc. and they'll look EVERYWHERE. I used to constantly find other peoples vehicles etc. (by actively hunting for them) and the server I played on had it's own forums. The clan I was stealing from kept making posts much like yours asking the admins to sort out the hacking situation. For whatever reason they seemed to think they were the cleverest payers in the world and they also underestimated the patience other players have when searching for things. In their mind it HAD to be a hacker finding their stuff because nobody should have apparently been able to find their gear. They were wrong.
  19. You know how you asked for feedback? Well you seem to only want positive feedback. Sure some peeps are being blunt but it's all useful and tbh you should just absorb it. If you're wanting to be a popular YT'er my advice would be to first develop a thicker skin because what's written above is very mild in terms of critique compared to what you'll get if you do ever make it big. I guess you could just do a Rhino and remove the option to leave any comments at all on your vids, ignorance is bliss and all that. Good luck anyway =)

    In the video settings (in Afterburner) choosing the above settings will just ensure it records your mic as well as the game sound and vid. Give it a quick go and see if it works.

    It's been ages since I used it but try this: Open Afterburner, open settings (bottom right). Use the arrow (top right) to scroll along to "Video Capture" settings. Check the "enable audio capture" box then in "Audio Source" select the option that matches your mic. If it still doesn't capture then go to - Control panel>Sound>Recording and make sure your mic is enabled and set as the default device. Then disable any others just to make sure. Also right click on your device (mic) open properties and check your levels etc to make sure the mics actually being captured by your PC. Profit.
  24. Seems legit. There isn't really anything here to warrant removing it (although it's being discussed, PEEPS NEED TO GIVE US SOME PROOF) but I'd advise anyone here gets involved at their own risk. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole. PS - MY EYES THEY HURT
