I Need Help With My CD Key

It's not good news unfortunatly. Your key got stolen via third party software and is now being used by someone that probably bought if for $5. Chances are he's also probably a hacker and it's only a matter of time before your key gets globally banned by BE. I honestly feel for you, it sucks. Really the only way to avoid this in the future is to only download and run files you trust completely.

Well, when you put it like that I agree completely. This is just my opinion and not endorsed by BIS.

I'm liking your idea more and more. The colour would need to be chosen carefully though so that peeps using the old format could still read the text. It'd also make us think more about what we posted when we switch to mod mode and might clear up that grey area between us just chatting and us being a mod.

I think this thread is actually a good example of how relaxed moderating can work. If I wanted to be a dick or a nazi mod I could have just told everyone to shut up and stay on topic but that would be boring and it'd just result in some frustrated members and even more people crossing me off their Xmas card list.

Hmm, not sure about that one, it could work. I just make it very clear by the tone of my post when I switch to "mod mode". For the most part it seems to work.

On that I agree but I'm honestly not sure what the answer is. Having two accounts would make me feel slightly deceitful TBH, we would also run the risk of being accused of abusing our positions by moderating threads to suit us. At least as it is now we're accountable for everything we say. The only other option would be to stop us posting our own personal views once we become mods but if that were the case we would have no mods, if I had to choose or be censored then I'd drop my mod status in a heartbeat.

Herbster, I actually agree with some of your points and I'm constantly aware we walk a fine line, sometimes I think we cross that line too but I think most of us are mature enough to appologise when we mess up. I think most people can see that when we're posting it's usually just our personal opinions. I know what you mean about our mod status meaning some people think our words carry more weight, I personally don't think they do, our opinions are no more valid than anyone elses whether they have 1 post or 1000 posts.

The only one that keeps refering to you as "mere mortals" is you. I certainly don't have an ego and I'm well aware my role is just to shuffle posts around, nothing else. There's many regular posters on here that I have a massive amount of respect for and I never look down on anyone.

When I first used these forums last year you couldn't make a single post even slightly critical of Rocket or DayZ without being bombarded by "cool story bro!", memes, flames and just general trolling. Of course that still goes on, it's the internet but anyone who thinks it's worse now than it was then needs to remove their rose tinted specs. Rocket, in his own words wants this forum to be like the wild west. Of course we could moderate it like the BIS forums, in fact as a moderator that would be easier. Everything there is black and white with none of this messy grey stuff in the middle It would result in a nice tidy forum but a sterile one. That's not a forum I would personally enjoy, in fact I gave up posting there 2 years ago although as an information resource it's still great but that's all. People expect different thing's from forums and I've never in my life been part of a forum where everyone is happy how things are run. The reason I personally have spent so much time moderating here is first and foremost because as a gamer I really want DayZ to succeed and me moderating here is just a small way I can help them with that, secondly I still happen to think this is a great community if you scratch through the surface and I've made many good friends here, some of those friends started out as people that disagreed with me or vice -versa but as adults we managed to resolve or set aside our differences. Basically, if you don;t like the forums as they are, blame Rocket :P .

Is it still easy to gear up? (Hope not)

Duping was fixed long ago and if you find a well run private server you won't need to worry about hacking either.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Sorry for being way off topic but what the hell is that character in your avatar? I know mines slightly dodgy but your is just plain freaky.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Agreed. We have a lot to thank private servers for. They basically saved the mod after the issues on the public ones got out of hand. The point of the SA (or one of) is to resolve these issues. Unfortunately the downside of the private servers is that (many) admins have now customised the settings to the point where it's become an entirely different game. People that have started playing in the last couple of months and have only ever played on servers with silly starting gear and cars on every street corner haven't actually experienced DayZ as it was intended. They will be shocked when they play the SA because it's going to be brutal, hard, frustrating and unforgiving (this time for the right reasons). They may not like it but that's what DayZ is supposed to be like and the SA will take us back to that (as far as I can tell from having read almost everything there is to read about it). If people don't like it then it's just not the game for them. There's hundreds of other games out there to cater to different preferences, DayZ's strength has always been (and will hopefully continue to be) that it is unique. It's the brutalness of it (perma death ect.) and slow pace that induces the strong emotions and tension that in my opinion no other game has come close to offering yet. No game in the world can appeal to all, many have tried and they fail every time. All a good game developer can do is have a clear goal and stick to it. I believe that is what the devs are doing, of course only time will really tell and I'm a biased fanboy but looking around the games in development ATM and near future nobody is attempting anything close to what DayZ is. As a gamer first and a DayZ fan second, I really hope they don't screw it up, so far I don't see one single thing that makes me think they will. Edit - On a side note, being a "fanboy" like me implies that I can't look at things objectively or use critical thinking to come to these conclusions. I've been a gamer for 20 years or so now and I like to think I have my head screwed on fairly tightly. I deal with facts. Not rumours, not mis-information. When/if the time comes I will be critical of decisions made by the devs as I have in the past but for now I'm honestly very happy with the way things are going.

Dayz SA to be a failure

He doesn't care if the public has A "gimme gimme" attitude. As he's stated many times all he can focus on are the things that are within his control and that is making the best game he wants to make. If he does that and sticks to it then the people that want a hardcore survival experience will be happy. Others won't but such is life, the market is saturated with games aimed at the casual player so it's not as if they don't have other options.

Dayz SA to be a failure

My personal opinion on the matter is that I'd be happy if the SA stuck to public hives for ever as long as the issues that caused it to go wrong to begin with are sorted (which is basically the main reason they moved onto making the SA so quickly).

I agree with you about a proper role being assigned to someone in an official capacity to communicate more efficiently with the community. Most of the problems, in fact almost every major problem I can think of that the devs have faced have been because of bad communication or just plain lack of communication (last Xmas for example). I seem to spend a majority of my time clearing up (or trying to) mis-information. The fact that we have to go to other sites to get links and quotes for the official site via third parties is something that annoyed me for months TBH.

Private hives will most likely be a part of the future of the SA but not until it's out of development.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Well, as Rocket has said many times, he just wants to make the best game he can. That means making the game he wants, not trying to appeal to the mass market. You may not like it but those are the facts. Let's not forget what bought us all to DayZ to start with, it offers something different from the mainstream.

    Will I be banned?

Script restrictions for certain actions usually means the admin needs to update hi BE filters to allow those actions.

Wow, as I've always said, Germany has much to offer the world.
  23. Okey cokey then, so, just to clarify. Obviously Dean's not available ATM so I've spoken to Matt about it. It sounds like the "Kickstarter" part of the quote and the "paying for goodies" part are just the game journo throwing his own interpretation (wrongly) onto something Dean has said. What does this mean? Well it means nothing's changed in the respect that they will follow the model for release that they originally intended. As has always been discussed, there will be no extra content or "goodies" depending on when you purchase. Just the game. If you buy it in development it will be cheaper as is becoming common practice now days. Cool, now I'm off to punch every gaming journo I see in the eye.
  24. Yeh, that's what worries me. Like I say I'll try and get something more reliable than that.
