    Infected

Nope. That's what Rocket has said. The Zeds are infected (not dead) and we are part of a small percentage of humans left with an immunity to the infection. As I say, it'll hopefully get a lot more fleshed out in the SA.
  2. Fraggle (DayZ)

Played for the first time in months.

It's probably worth you trying a few servers until you give up completely. Because this is a mod almost every update will always introduce new bugs, it'll always be that way TBH, that's why so many are getting impatient for the SA. I personally haven't had those issues so as I say, try some more servers first, a lot of people stay away from public servers now and it's been that way for a while. It's just my opinion but go and find yourself a good private server, it can take a little while to find one you like but it's well worth it.
  3. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Infected

TBH, at this point nobody really knows accept Rocket and his Brother. Rocket just made a small mod and stuck some zeds in it and here we are. Luckily Rockets Brother is a virologist and has been working on the theories and disease system for the SA.
  4. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Infected

No, because we're immune to the infection, that's why we're survivors. I think in the SA there will be a basckstory fleshed out via books ect. (like Skyrim).

How to balance all the different gamestyles?

Basically I completely agree with Rage and Chabowski on this. All I'd add is that whilst there's nothing more frustrating that being shot in the back of the head or sniped without a chance to defend yourself you never really know the other players intentions or motives. It's too easy to blame it on "COD Kids" ect. (I hate that term). There's just too many variables involved. You may be approaching someone's camp or vehicle without realising or maybe they're part of a team and you're approaching one of their members so their spotter/sniper decides to eliminate the threat. The frustrating part is that you really never know and your game is instantly ended. As already said that's where the games tension comes from and it means you have to play smart and can never drop your guard.

    Whats the plan post Standalone?

Well, Rocket's talked about setting up his own game studio but all of that is a long way off TBH. BIS have a track-record of supporting their games for years after release so it should be interesting whatever happens.

Funfact: My first post ever on these forums was when I magically received a golden AKS via the hacking gods. I didn't have a clue what was going on so I posted asking if they were a rare find ect. and everyone ripped me to pieces saying I was either bullshitting or a hacker.

Hmmmmm....... Well there was that REALLY surreal one. I though it was eccelent and informative.

    Gas masks

I'd use it to stop you trying to tickle my tonsils with your tongue.

    Gas masks

Yup, I love the idea. Maybe not for radiation but for disease protection. I've literally just been playing Metro 2033 so maybe that's why I like the idea. If I had to guess I'd say in the future it's pretty likely we will see them in the SA but that is just a complete guess.

    T minus 15 minutes

Yup, I'd recommend starting alone too. Sure it'll be harder but you can make mistakes and not worry too much about it. I think DayZ is all about making mistakes and learning from them. Prepare to die a LOT. Have fun out there!

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

Aaaaaaaand back on topic, again please. We've all had a good chat with Herbster and he's probably now well aware many people here (not everyone though) disagree with him, let's not drag it out any longer. :) Now where's the f***ing devblog?
  17. I'm confused as to where " the mods have backpeddled". I saw people talking about "kickstarter" stuff and "goodies" which didn't sound right to me so I got clarification from a dev to fix the issue. That's all really. As has already been said, if you don't like the early release being for sale and are sceptical (there's nothing wrong with good healthy scepticism about big companies, although BI really aren't that big) then just wait until it's complete, read the reviews or feedback from players and then decide if it's the game for you or not, if not, no harm done. I've been playing BIS games for many years now and so far they have only acted responsibly as a company which is why they have so much respect from fans of the Arma series. Until they act in a way that would cause me to doubt them I shall continue to trust them as a company.
  18. They did get what they paid for. They don't have to do any research, all the info is right there on one page complete with a vid. Let's not forget that the games are usually heavily discounted too (as DayZ SA will be) and you won't be paying any more once the game is completed. IMO if you can't be arsed to read 1 short paragraph or watch a vid and then fail to miss that you had to click on "early access area" (which has it's own warnings about what that area is for) before splashing your cash then you're in no position to have claimed to have been ripped off. Let's use Arma 3 as an example as that was recently released on Steam, is also made by BIS and is still in alpha: Firstly, it's called "Arma3 Alpha" and it's in the early access area on Steam. If you just search Arma 3 so are not aware that you are in the early access part of Steam the biggest and brightest part of the page right at the front in the middle under the vid highlighted in blue is text explaining what early access means complete with a link to a page with even more detail if required. The vid also explains the concept and shows what it is you're buying and explains vary clearly what they have planned for the future. There is then some short easy to read bullet points listing clearly what it is you're buying. I fail to see what part of this is deceitful? Systems can't be designed around the lowest common demoninator, when they are we end up with cups of coffee being sold with big red letters on the cup saying "Warning, contents may be hot!" and bags of nut's with warnings on them saying "May contain nuts!". Some people are just stupid, the rest of us shouldn't be punished because of this.
  19. I like the being able to buy into a game during development. Recently I've purchased Don't Starve, Kerbal Space Programme, Star Forge, Arma 3 and a few others. Already they've given me many hours of fun and I like seeing how they progress. I read about them first and was well aware what I was buying. It's hard to miss that you're buying a game in development as they have Alpha plastered all over them and you have to purchase them from an early access area. I've been reading some of the Steam forums regarding these games and most people seem to understand the process and what it is they're buying, although annoyingly there's others who complain about bugs because they just clicked "purchase now" but that's their fault, not the devs and hopefully they learn from it.

Holding a key to raise weapon? Your thoughts

I think it's too early to answer a poll TBH. As GEWS said, it needs to be implemented carefully and there's a lot of testing to be done yet.
  22. Fraggle (DayZ)

    GOD ****ing **** IT

Dust yourself off and get stuck back in. As Demon says, we've all been there (a lot). Chin up soldier! Edit - On a side note call your gear whatever you want, it's your gear and your game.

    The Reddit Rescue Force

I used to be a medic For TMW and I loved the fact that there's people like you making things risky. Not sure why it's upsetting some TBH. It's all part of the danger and fun of being a medic. Maybe it's because you're targetting the RRF specifically. TMW was the biggest and most organised bunch of medics DayZ has ever seen and the fact people chose to make our lives a misery is all part of the fun TBH. It'd be boring if it was easy.

I Need Help With My CD Key

Oh dear Thunder, looks like you're just another kid trying his luck. I'm trying to decide whether you should be banned from the forums or not now. Thanks for wasting my time.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Also, DayZ is using Arma 3 assets where required and much of the engine code and most of the new content has been written from the ground up purely to suit DayZ. It will also be using things that are an improvement on Arma 3, player skeletons for example for improved animations. Arma 3 still uses the old ones. The engine is now so customised it's fair to say it's unique to DayZ. A mod on any engine will still have all of the issues inherent with it being a mod. In fact porting it over to the Arma 3 engine will probably open a whole new world of issues and bugs as Arma 3 is still in alpha and has a long way to go before it's complete.
