    What Now? - Brainstorming session.

Join a medic clan (TMW or Reddit Rescue Force) and answer calls for help. The most fun I've ever had in DayZ was being a medic. It gives you a goal and requires a lot of work to keep your supplies up ect. You'll make some good friends doing it too.
  2. I don't think there's an easy answer TBH. When the mod first became popular we did have community support staff that answered tickets (regarding complaints on public servers) and enforced the rules of conduct for admins. Again this was all run by volunteers and is/was a pretty thankless task requiring a lot of time and patience so after a few months this team basically disbanded. I really do see your point but the fact remains that this is a free mod, the same as any mod for any other game. Peoples perceptions of it don't change the facts. The fact that it has become very popular doesn't change that either. If I want to play any mods for any other games I understand that I first need to buy that game and it's for that game that I have paid and am entitled to support for, not the mod for it. If people choose to buy Arma to play DayZ because they've heard via word of mouth that it's good (it's never been advertised) then that is their choice and again doesn't change the fact that what they are playing is a free mod for the game they've purchased. When you buy Arma you get a complete game (much more than that if you buy Combined Ops or the Anniversary addition) and support from BIS via the BIS forums and rightly so as you have paid good money for it. That is not the case with any of the community developed mods (there's hundreds of them for Arma). I think it's fair enough to expect people not involved in the forums to understand the difference between paying for a game and enjoying the benefits that come with that (support ect.) to playing a mod. It's not a new concept. Of course, when the SA is released and people have made a purchase to play it they will be entitled to support, that includes ensuring that the official hive admins obey the rules of conduct. Of course in an ideal world that would be the case with the mod too but to put it bluntly it's never going to happen. I guess we'll never agree on this but at least we both have one thing in common and that is wanting to see DayZ succeed.

    Lefties

That Sir is a fact. We will bend the world to suit us, scissors will no longer be an issue.

Outfits affect the way you play

I think the plan is for clothes to have certain effects. For example a big coat will have more pockets for storing small items and will keep you warm ect, a motorcycle helmet will help protect your head from melee attacks and a head-torch has a torch on it :) . Not sure about shoes ect though.

Yeh, it's just there's advertising on there and it worried me he was trying to guide people there for the clicks.

Err, that's just your clan website. Anyhow, good luck.
  7. I personally always recommend people turn to a private hives because in my time playing DayZ that's by far where I've found the best servers, all I can do is be honest with my opinion, I'm not a salesman for BIS. Others have had a great time (and still do) on public hives and that's cool too, hence the choice. There's issues on both public and private hives and there will continue to be for as long as this is a mod of Arma 2 (which it always will be). This is still a community project, the servers both public and private are run by the community (largely for free), the mod is developed by the community (for free) and the forums are maintained by the community (for free). The choices we have and will continue to have are guided by the community. If there is no demand for public servers then they will cease to exist, as will the private ones. Just because there is a standalone game in development backed by BIS be under no illusion that what you are playing here is a free mod supported by the community and developed by the community for free. Anyhoo, in answer to your main question, there is still public hives because some admins choose to run them and others choose to play on them. I've worked in retail for years too and run small successful businesses, your analogy doesn't really hold up in my opinion. A better analogy would be to go to a community center, use all of their services for free and then complain that the toilets are dirty. The solution to that problem would be to volunteer your services as a cleaner and invest in some rubber gloves.

I would love to visit the actual area cherno is set

Cuff links. Edit - I got ninja'd and now just look like a nutter :/
  9. Here's one of the threads where Rocket discusses it in a bit of detail (ish): http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/107637-feedback-on-status-of-infectious-diseases-in-dayz/page__hl__brother
  10. Don't worry, Deans Brother is a virologist and has been helping Dean get the virus/infection mechanic for the SA spot-on. There was a thread a while ago where he was discussing it, I'll try and get the link for you because it's interesting stuff. IMO the disease mechanic in the SA could be the biggest game changer of all the things being added.

    People shooting freshspawns

Just dicks. Decent bandits can KOS though, just not fresh spawns. Remember that even as a fresh spawn you have to tread carefully.

    Hitmarkers, yay or nay?

It's a big fat nay from me for the reasons listed above.

    Cameras

We're not sure of the backstory yet or how widespread the infection is but I'd imagine the phone networks are down unless the infection is just in Chernarus. If it's a world-wide problem then phone networks would die pretty quickly with nobody to maintain them. I like the camera idea though.

Someone did exactly that and took photos of all the places they visited. Here's the album: http://imgur.com/a/qEkrm And here's some comparisons: I think there's better images than this to show comparisons but I'm lazy :)
  16. Unfortunately without anything to back it up it's just an accusation. Don't get me wrong, there's some shady business going on and people have posted evidence of this. Let's just make sure we don't turn this into a random hate thread.

The whole debate/argument about whether BIS/Dean are following the "correct" development path is becoming a tad circular largely because at this point it's based on speculation and/or whether or not people choose to trust BIS or not based on past actions. I own a scarily large back-catalogue of games and have been a gamer for 20 years or so now. I can honestly say that the most value for money I've had so far has come directly from the Arma series. Obviously others will play Arma and have the complete opposite experience so really this debate is purely subjective. This early access model of developing a game is nothing new and has become very popular with both developers and customers alike, there's no scandal here. I currently own around 10 games or so in the alpha stage of development and of those the Arma3 Alpha release is right up at the top (with a couple of others) in terms of what they've delivered at this early stage in terms of both content and playability. To people who are sceptical about whether the DayZ SA devs will follow through on their goals and make the game we hope they will, well, you have a very easy choice to make. You simply wait until the game is complete, read the reviews or watch vids of people playing and then make your decision as to whether it's worth your money or not as with any other game. As of now it's almost exactly one year since the mod was released and to be getting progress reports of a standalone version of the mod at this point is a very quick turnaround however you look at it. Of course only time will really tell if the devs have made the correct decisions, of course most of us hope they have but at this early stage it really can only be hope. We just have to wait and see. Many of the people frustrated with the wait or speculating that it's a marketing excercise are probably the same people that would complain if it was released too early. Really, the devs can do nothing about this, they're damned if they do and damned of they don't. The only course of action they can take is to stick to their goals, stay focused and eventually deliver a game that we (the consumer) deem worth it to spend our hard earned money on.

Yup, it does. Sorry OP, wrong mod, wrong forum. Locked.

    Arma2 3d Editor question.

Doesn't the middle mouse-wheel raise/lower the camera? It's been a long time since I used it but that's how I remember it.
  20. Looool, it's starting to scare me how much Rocket can write one thing and then people read that as something completely different. To clarify, the situation is being reviewed when Rocket comes back. That may mean we get a release date, it may not, that is the purpose of a review.

Yeah, it's just easier to type and I'm lazy :) I think a game like DayZ is about giving players the tools and options to do what they want, it's always amazing to see what people come up with. Radio's are just another part of what will become a very complex combo of items and gear. Time will tell but I bet in the future people are using radio's for thing's we haven't even thought of yet.

I agree but as I said the intention (IMO) isn't to replace TS, it's for communicating with others on the map who you don't know as many currently use sidechat for now.

Lol, exactly. When they post vids/screenies those images do the rounds and get seen by people that may be interested in the SA but don't really follow development, which may give them a skewed idea of what the SA will actually be like or where they are at in terms of development.

Edit - I'll change this post because I got confused between Steam Workshop and Steamworks :/ I think this has been one of my fav blogs. I prefer just a nice list of things being worked on. Screenshots/vids are always nice but TBH when the screenshots/vids are of unfinished content I think it can do more harm than good because some people will watch them and assume that its the finished product.

No idea. I would hope so because it would help you to get an idea of a location of another user. They described it as a more basic version of ACRE which basically simulates radios amazingly well including distance ect. I guess it depends how basic they mean :/
