    Most of us have other things in our life that need doing, sometimes I'm not able to play a game for a couple of weeks because of work etc. that doesn't mean the devs should dumb the game down. DayZ became popular precisely because progress takes time and rewards patient, careful players, it was never supposed to be a game you dip in and out of for half an hour at a time. There's a million other games out there already that cater to people that want a quick fix.

    IT'S A DEMONSTRATION. HE IS DEMONSTRATING THE GAME. The point of the demonstration is just to show some of the new features they have been working on.

Regarding sounds Rocket has stated that they will be added at a later date: "Sounds aren't even a consideration now because it is a trivial change and until we have completed changing the zombie behaviour.. required sounds could change a great deal. They won't be recorded until that is completed. All sounds are placeholder per normal development practice. In fact, many pre alpha's I have played didn't even have sound effects for most things."
  8. It uses line of sight so items will only show in the "vicinity" part of the inventory if you can directly see them.

    I'm not sure. When people rest, they heal. To keep me happy though it'd have to be a long process, not just a case of hiding in a bush for 20 mins.

  12. As said in the vid that "takedown" animation was only added a few hours before they demo'd the gameplay. It hasn't even been tested, balanced or looked at in any great depth yet. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record but don't assume that what you see in that vid is written in stone. The issue with showing development builds is that many seem to be thinking that it's final when that couldn't be further from the truth. If we're playing in 6 months time and it looks like that I'll be pissed too, the fact is though that EVERYTHING you see in the vid is still being worked on daily.

  18. I'm glad they've chosen to show the current build "warts and all". At this stage many devs would simply show an edited shiny video highlighting the bits they're proud of and conveniently omitting things they'd rather we didn't see. Of course there's many things that need fixing/adding/working on etc. I think it's safe to say that's to be expected for an pre-alpha build and the alpha build they will initially release. I like the fact animations can now be interrupted, this allows you much more responsive control over the character. People have been asking for that for months on the forums, taking 10 seconds to get up or throw a grenade and not being able to stop the animation has always been an issue Arma/DayZ mod players have hated. The downside of that is of course that by interrupting those animations they will "skip" and not be fluid. Maybe the devs have something in mind to fix it, maybe it's not possible but I know from a gameplay perspective that the new system is a massive improvement. For me DayZ has always been about the gameplay and the situations you face due to the sandbox nature of it and player interactions. It's impossible to show that at a convention, just running round without a care in the world as Matt does in the vid with loot everywhere is necessary to show people some new features in a short amount of time but it's not really a good reflection of what we will experience when playing as there's no tension. There's many interesting thing's being added with some massive potential in terms of gameplay (crafting etc) and it's those things that are going to make the SA truly unique, it's the overall gameplay that interests me not the minute detail at this point, especially considering how much work is still to be done. There's going to be LOTS of people that do not like the SA but it was never intended to be a mainstream game, the big publishers have that covered. DayZ needs to focus on it's strengths whilst improving the other areas where it can and it looks to me that's what is being done. It's never going to be able to compete with games like GTA in terms of character animations etc (not many games can) and expecting it to will lead to constant disapointment.

    And that's the main issue. It'd be nice to see a workaround but I fear it may have to stay as it is without crippling our PC's.

    Pick a fight with a clan, go to their home server and asasinate them one by one. Make them hate you. Don't stop until you're banned from the server and accused of hacking. I tried it and it kept me amused for a whole week.

    What you guys think about the new update?

    The update was only recently released, have you spent time actually trying to learn how to handle the new behaviors or are you just getting annoyed because you're trying to play it the way you were before and it's not working? I realise the mod has to evolve over time so as not to become stagnant and the devs aren't going to get it right every time, there's been patches in the past that I've hated too for various reasons so I'm not knocking you for not liking it so far, I'm just saying I like the general direction it's taking. It's going to be a bumpy ride, it always has been with DayZ but I'm happy that they're at least attempting to make it more of a challenge again.
