Need help trying to get 64 bit Dayz

So no dedicated graphics card? That will be your issue. I'm no technical wizard but trying to run Arma or DayZ with an on-board GFX will always end in tears. I'm sure someone with better technical knowlege will correct me if I'm wrong though.

And therein lies your problem. It could of course be an awesome laptop, what are your specs?

No, if anything you can call it a proving ground or proof of concept but as far as the coding goes the SA and the mod have now become two completely different things. They're on different engines and have different teams working on them. We have a separate small testing group for the SA at the moment but that should expand into a "public alpha" in the near future.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Hi! Please refrain from telling people to go fuck themselves. Cheers.

    E3 and our attendance

It'll be released on Steam most likely via Early Access at a heavily reduced price to reflect the fact it will be in alpha development.

Probably to keep peoples expectations in check (ie. lower them). Peoples expectations have been so high and much of that has been based on false information, speculation or just pure hope. This was their chance to show what they have warts and all. Sure, they're getting a lot of stick for it but better now than in a few weeks or more time when people might be buying it, at least at that point people can't claim they were being sold something else. WarZ *cough*
  7. Yeah, and that's just for starters. I've seen much more popular Youtubers getting it even more wrong though. Oh well.
  8. I dunno man, he get's a lot of basic facts wrong and negates to mention many important things such as the crosshair being a placeholder. Fair play to him for trying though...

    E3 and our attendance

Rocket says: "Basically, we made a new system for the zombie animation attacks, but there is no event handler for that yet because it just went in this week. We need the event handler to synchronize the animation with its attack effects. Currently, as a placeholder, it simply plays the effect half a second after the animation is started. The event handler is scheduled to be finished any day now, which will allow us to sequence the attack. It's a very trivial change but will obviously instantly improve the output. It has nothing to do with hit detection, animations, or anything. It's how it is designed as a placeholder. Because we are rewriting many parts of the engine, problems like this (i.e. known bugs waiting for replacement of placeholder elements) are very common through the development as we wait for the sequence of development to occur. tl;dr The zombie attacks aren't sequenced for the animations because its a new system thats 50% coded and waiting for event handlers to allow synchronization, which is trivial to implement once made."

Well if testing is you're priority you need to take part in the actual testing which is done prior to the release of the patch, you can do this on several servers and your help would be greatly appreciated by the devs. The mod will always be in alpha or beta and will likely never be considered complete. It's a constantly evolving project, if you think this is an alpha for something that will one day be finished then you'll never be able to enjoy it because you will always be "testing". The best way of testing is to just play and offer constructive feedback. One of the many reasons I'm looking forward to the SA is because it's likely that loot tables won't be available due to the new system, it damages the game and removes any sense of exploration or discovery for the player and for a game like DayZ that's disasterous. Anyhoo, I'm sorry if I offended you I'm off to play the game.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Who's in denial? Almost every patch there's ever been to the mod is followed by hotfixes to address immediate issues. Razor has already said the knockdown mechanic is being adjusted, with regards to anything else you'll have to wait and see what they change.
  12. Yeh, it would mainly be aesthetic TBH but it would give you nice sense of reward for managing to survive a certain amount of time etc. It could help you identify if a character is experienced but not so much the player themselves.
  13. I don't really like the "civilian" way the player now holds the weapon either. One thing that would be good is that initially your player would hold guns like that but after you have survived a certain amount of time maybe you could then hold/handle the weapon in a more professional way. That would mean you could tell if your looking at an experienced survivor or not, if he looks like he knows what he's doing then you know he may be carrying some nice loot.
  14. Cummon peeps, let's try and be nice to each other and focus on the topic at hand. On topic: @DrGonzo - Many share you're frustration at hearing "it's being worked on" from the devs but that's a result of people (Journo's included) asking the same questions over and over again. I've seen some of the journos ask some good questions but for the most part they're all asking the same boring questions that have already been addressed and discussed at length by the devs. Some of them should be ashamed to call themselves journalists, there's so many different things people want to know about the plans for the game and yet they ask the predictable "So, Rocket tell us about the new crafting mechanic". The fact is that almost every aspect of the game is "being worked on". It may get boring to hear but it's just the truth. It does get monotonous hearing it over and over again but what else are they to say when they're working on it?
  15. Well, it's not want people want to hear but really only time will tell. It's very early days. We all (most of us) want to see it fulfill it's potential and all we can do at this point is cross our fingers and/or provide constructive critique of what we see. Some don't believe Rocket or BIS are capable of it whilst others fully back them, again only time will tell. Either way, like it or loathe it, it's Rockets project and it's for him to succeed or fail. I'll judge him on the finished product, not a development build.
  16. I wasn't attempting to keep you calm, I was just stating a fact, there's lot's of work to be done. Regarding release dates well that's been answered and discussed to hell and back. The December release date was literally for the mod to just be ported as it is to a new engine and polished up a bit. They have since moved on to a much bigger project, this was explained in the devblogs and has been discussed at length in many interviews by Dean. As for March there was never a release date set for March, just lot's of speculation from players.
  17. Exactly, and the devs have asked for and expect critique. Just saying something's shit however is not critique and is not particularly helpful. Saying why you think something is shit is much more useful to the devs. This thread and many others on other forums are full of criticism, nobody's shying away from it including the devs, it's constructive critique that will drive them forward.

    Infected camps!!

Your welcome. I was making an important point. Adding things like infected camps to the game is done to give players something new to discover and work out for themselves, that's surely half the fun of if not the entire point of DayZ. Studying loot tables defeats the purpose of that.
  19. I agree, things like heli-crash sites encourage the player to explore but they also seem a crude way of doing so. If the players have the tools required within the game to create interesting situations then I believe that situation will look after itself, and there's also going to be many more places of interest on the map, but it does heavily depend on what we're given. For me that's the strength of DayZ from a gameplay perspective, even with the VERY limited options available in the mod players never cease to be creative.
  20. It's for many reasons. The Zombie anims aren't synched up with their actual behaviours yet and that player anims are still being heavily worked on too. Only time will tell how much it's going to improve from what you've seen at E3. As SmashT said earlier, my one major concern is that zeds will forever have a certain buggy feel in this engine but it's simply too early to judge yet. All we can say for sure is that it all needs a lot of work, luckily it will get that.
  21. Here's a few more from the same article. To me they don't look enhanced at all, when testing this is how the game looks on my system. Now it's worth remembering that screenies are ALWAYS more flattering than actual gameplay footage because the person can choose a nice angle etc to show the game at it's best and you can conveniently ignore buggy animations but we've all seen the current gameplay now and torn it to pieces so a few more pics won't hurt at this stage. Here's the original article on Kotaku: Article
  22. Yes, depending on your settings of course. As far as I can see the pic hasn't been doctored in any way, they've just chosen a nice composition/angle. I'm pretty sure I've read that Rocket is dead against editing screenies so what you see is what you get.
  23. Regarding the inventory, only items you have a direct line of sight to and are within a close vicinity of will show in the "vicinity" part of the inventory. That means you won't be able to scavenge in the way you describe above. Although technically you could find some loot using that technique, without actually physically looking yourself (under beds etc) you will miss most of what is in the building. Ragarding loot spawns, the whole system will be very different to what we have now. There will be high grade military gear eventually but the devs can limit how much of everything there is in the DayZ world, not just the server. For example, they could decide that in the whole world of DayZ only 4 DMR's will exist (this is just an example). That means that out of all of the players in the world (not just one server) only 4 people can actually own a DMR. If you use your imagination you can quickly see how this will lead to some items becoming extremely precious and will potentially lead to some very tense trading situations. With regards to where loot will actually drop, there is now thousands more places to actually look for loot but the loot drop levels will be low meaning you really will have to search for gear and everything you find will be valuable to some degree, even if that's not immediately obvious. It's these subtle but significant changes in the way we will play DayZ that excite me, at this point when I see buggy animations I see see potential and things that will be fixed/worked on throughout the alpha period. IMO it's simply too early to just say, "well that looks shit" and move on although it is important we tell the devs when we think something looks like shit and why because it's that feedback that will push them on and let them know what we expect.
