Agreed. I think the one major mistake Dean made was offering the idea of a weekly devblog and then not following up on it and not really ever explaining why or explaining why he dropped the idea. Obviously they decided it wasn't practical but it would've been nice to have a message telling us they'd decided against it. I don't care how long development takes tbh but it's the fact that many peeps were still expecting these blogs that has lead to a lot of the frustration, it's made peeps think the devs are un-organised or constantly running late on things. I simple official statement would have remedied that. Anyhoo, it looks to me that development is transitioning into a new phase soon, it's moving from the early experimental phase with a small team to a more structured and traditional process (that's how I interpret what we've been told anyway) with a larger team so I'm hoping that soon (ish) it'll be a distant memory and we'll know where were at and be given a realistic sit-rep. I honestly think that's all most people want. The people that aren't happy to wait any longer will just have to accept that they're going to have to, hopefully more structured info will relieve their suffering, if they decide they've had enough of waiting and move on then that's what they need to do.

Toilet Water / Nausea induced attack
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to liquidcactus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I wonder how long after the breakdown of normal services etc it'd take for toilet water to dry up? This idea does seem a bit over complicated but I like the idea of maybe being able to lace one of my canteens with rat poison or anti-freeze as nice surprise for any one that kills and loots me. -
I'm confused about who that's aimed at :/ If it's aimed at the devs then they're not pissed off with peeps wanting info, that's why they're going to be giving us info and it's pretty much the point of this whole topic. If it's aimed at us (mods) I couldn't give a shit whether you buy it or not, I won't be making any money out of it. Your last sentence made the most sense, go and find another game to enjoy, it makes the waiting less painful.

i find one DMR, what im doing next???
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to wild_man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The DMR is my fav sniper rifle! You can use the scope with nightvision goggles for nightime sniping, it's got a good rate of fire, the recoil's not too bad and the scope is nice and easy to use. When you're looking through the scope on the highest zoom setting the scope is zeroed to 400m. That means if you have a target 400m away then you will get a direct hit if you centre the crosshair on the target (at maximum zoom). You can use the mildots to judge distance too but it's a bit long winded to explain here. If you remember that it's zeroed to 400m then you won't need to worry too much about making calculations etc. unless you want to be a pro-sniper. Because it's got such a quick fire rate you can usually afford to miss and then adjust for your second or third shot, it's not the best way of doing it but it's the easiest. The effective range is only 800m anyway so you won't usually be firing further than that although it is possible. -
Yeh that thread was Razor asking specifically for ideas for the mod but you're right good ideas from the forums always filter back to the SA dev team one way or another.
-
No worries, good luck.
-
Yeh it runs on Combined Operations which is Arma 2 and Arma Operation Arrowhead combined. It's your OA key that's banned though so as Dancing said you could get away with just buying that.
-
I didn't say you were lying. I don't know if you know how to hack or not, most of the DayZ hackers don't, they just buy scripts. I don't even know if you have a brother. I was just observing how many global bans are caused by brothers, it's a cautionary tale.
-
Oh the brother again. Always the brother.

Why do peoples actions need to dictate their appearance?
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to GBTP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True, and that's why something more subtle is needed. As someone said earlier in the thread, if you walk into a pub you can fairly quickly get an idea of the people you'd happily chat with and the people that'll tell you to fuck off. That's because knowingly or not people project themselves outwards even if they don't want to. It's usually lot's of subtle things including body language that add up to give us a 1st impression of someone but obviously those are too subtle to add to a game so people try to think of a simpler way of mimicking that. I guess you could say it's similar to the 3rd person camera view, in reality we can't look at the back of our own heads either but that view is there to replace the peripheral vision that is lacking in 1st person view. Luckily the player skin thing is going (I never liked it) so whatever is used in the future (if anything) it'll probably be something to do with the character themselves. -
1.7.7.2 last update before standalone?
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to DropBearChick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The mod and the SA are two separate things run by two different teams. Regarding the SA release date, please read the devblog next week so that you have a realistic view of what's happening. -
Yeh, 99% of them are waiting for the 1% that actually provide the info or useful opinions so that they can copy it.

But I like it. -
SA performance optimization before new features
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to Cobs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
At this point there's not really much use in any of us saying how it runs because it's way too early in the process to offer anything useful. In theory the game should run better than the mod for people because the new client server architecture has taken some of the strain (Zeds, loot etc), it's a different engine and later on it will be optimised for modern gaming, the mod runs on a 5 year old game. The process of optimisation though comes later on in development, true optimisation can only be achieved once most of the parts are in place. -
The thing is a lot of people can't handle the mod and gave up on it a long time ago in order to wait for something more polished or at least with more content or at the very least slightly better optimised. I'm sure many of us could handle a very buggy semi broken release but you have to remember this time round people will be paying for it and with that comes certain expectations. Not to mention at this stage it really just isn't ready for release. You're asking them to release something that simply won't stand up to large scale testing yet. They've explained what needs to be in place for that to happen but hopefully the next devblog will make it clearer. People are happy with this post because it's news, there hasn't been any news for a while and it sounds like we will have a much clearer picture on the situation when the devblog is released. The fact is that some people won't be happy until it's released whatever they tell us, that won't change anything though so many of us would rather they wait and get the game to a point where they are comfortable that it will at the very least stand up to large scale testing without falling apart.

July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It's just my opinion but I think it's the "entitledness" of some posts that gets peoples back up. Of course people care about the game and they feel invested in it because they may have sunk a lot of hours into the mod. There's many genuine concerns raised daily, and there's usually answers to those concerns. I'm an older gamer (36 now :/) so was bought up in a time when the only info you would have on development of a game would be one article a year in a gaming magazine so I won't lie, it raises my heckles a bit when I see the constant demand for information. I'm not saying that now days that info shouldn't be there but maybe it explains the split between people that are happy to just chill and wait to see what happens and people that demand constant answers or expect rolling news on the progress of the game. Maybe not, it's just an observation. Anyhoo, in the near future it looks like the devs will be shifting into a more structured and traditional development process, so far nothing about the inception of DayZ has been traditional and maybe it's that that upsets or confuses some people. So far it's been a small team working on some very experimental stuff, hence the inability to give solid time frames. Hopefully as development moves up a gear people will start to understand why they've had to wait for what is still a relatively short amount of time in game development terms. Of course there's the vocal minority argument and it's a valid one, in fact in the past it's been the bane of game development as devs try to cater to these peeps whilst overlooking the content majority. Most gamers just play contently or wait without posting a thing or even reading a forum. Anyhoo, good times ahead. -
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. *itches chin* I kinda like it. I think. It's definately better than the shit meter anyway. I need to think about it. *carries on itching chin*

Hmmm, not too sure about that one. I agree with the being nice to people part though. -

DayZ Standalone Discussion
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, it was discussed a while back and i think the end conclusion was that maybe some of the controversy it could cause, or at least censorship laws in some countries would mean it's not worth it. Things can always change though but i wouldn't hold your breath. -
What do you mean by "bad graphics"? FPS, textures etc? We might be able to help but you'll need to be more specific. Post your specs and a more specific issue and someone here'll help you out. It's worth remembering though that Arma 2 is badly optimised, especially compared to Arma 3.

Potential new sig for me, cheers. And thanks for keeping us in the loop Rocket, gonna be exciting seeing the team expand.
