    Where are all the devblogs?

Don't worry I've already sorted the beers ;)
  2. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Looking for Origins Group

If you don't have much luck here you could try the origins forum.

    Where are all the devblogs?

BECAUSE IT'S NOT READY YET. That's just a fact, not smoke and mirrors. It's nothing to do with simple bugs but fundamental things that need to be in place before they release. Anyhoo, I thank you in advance for the beer and rest assured I will not welch on the bet. Much love.

    Where are all the devblogs?

@GeneralMalchett Well you completely dodged my other points but I guess that's how peeps like you roll. There will be no reasoning with you. You've already decided this is one massive fail and will ignore anything that says otherwise. That's why I said earlier in the thread that the only thing that will prove people like you wrong is the game itself, nothing I have to say will change your mind and I don't expect it to. I wasn't being picky, you clearly said it should have been released a year ago, even if I give you 2 months leeway that's a stupid thing to say. With regards to the release date why do you want to bet with me about when it'll be released? I haven't made any predictions, I even said I'd be happy to wait another year. let's leave it at that, I can see we're never going to agree on anything so all we'll end up doing is pissing each other off more with every post. But... In the name of sportsmanship I will take that bet. And I don't want that cheap 2.4% proof nats piss in stubby bottles either, I'll have a case of Sagres please.

    Where are all the devblogs?

You're typing this on a thread where the lead dev is communicating with us. Go and read Rockets post again, structure and organisation are exactly what he wants to offer us. Check here for more communication: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/page/2Reddit and Twitter are worth a look too. All of that adds up to more communication than I get from most of the games in development that I follow, which is quite a few. The SA was only announced 11 months ago, how is that even possible? Clearly wrong as proven by this forum, Reddit, youtube, live streaming figures and the gaming press. Obviously not.

    Where are all the devblogs?

There's really no point. Sometimes we test very specific things such as a specific animation or a new mechanic. Sometimes the build is broken while the devs try something out at other times it's all good. The dev build changes frequently. Even if I was to say "It's awesome, you won't believe how awesome it's going to be!" it doesn't really help anyone because it's just my opinion and I'm a biased fanboy. Also we're all under NDA's so talking about specifics would break that agreement. All I can say is that the devs work hard, that's one thing that isn't open to opinion, it's just a fact. In the testing channel on Skype it sometimes feels as if they never sleep so people that think they sit with their feet up or spend their days playing KSP do need a reality check.

I've no idea, just read the few comments after that quote and you'll see exactly what I mean though.

    Where are all the devblogs?

The simple fact is this. If they release a good game people will want to play it. If they rush out a shit game people will rage hard, move on and then never trust them again. Fuck the hype. Hype will only carry a game so far and if the end result sucks people will drop it like a hot potato. At this point the only thing that matters is the end result. Nothing I say, Dean says or any of us that choose to remain optimistic say will change the opinion of the people that have convinced themselves they've somehow been deceived. The only thing that can convince those people they were wrong is the release of an awesome game. Even if that's 6 months or more from now they will buy it because they're gamers and the thing that brought them here originally was the desire to see/play a good game, and the SA has the potential to be an awesome game but the devs need the time to make it happen. If they release a good game and those peeps decide to pass it up because they still feel lied to well there's nothing that can be done about that and they're the one's that will be missing out. I've seen so many failed doomsday predictions for DayZ in the last year it's a joke. Firstly it was WarZ - "If they don't hurry up and release the SA WarZ will steal it's thunder and take the playerbase!". Well that didn't pan out so well. People said similar things about State of Decay and other games that have the words "zombie" or "survival" in the description, some have yet to be released some have already come and gone but the fact is they don't offer the same thing that DayZ will so it still has everything to gain and if it's rushed out to appease the impatient it has everything to lose too.

    Where are all the devblogs?

Temporarily, that's what happens with early dev builds. They introduce something new, it fucks up the build then they fix it. It's pretty standard for game development.

    Where are all the devblogs?

Well those of us that are testing it can clearly see it's not vapourware and are are also very aware of how hard the team work on it. Looking at it from my position comments like the above just look silly. Really though as I said before, only time will prove the naysayers wrong and in that regard all we can do is wait. Rest assured though that time will make comments like the above look rather stupid. For now we just have to suck it up.

    Where are all the devblogs?

I think it's just because they said there would be weekly devblogs and then didn't really follow up on that. If they'd have just said at the start we'd get one once a month or even less then peeps wouldn't have been sitting there every Friday waiting for news. I know it was a while ago now and things have changed but I swear some peeps still think that every time a week passes without a blog it means the devs have let them down again :/ Some peeps are still hung up on the December 2012 release date even though that's been explained to hell and back and see every week that passes as another week that the game's been delayed even though most of us know that's not a true representation of the actual situation..

    Where are all the devblogs?

That's cool but waaaay off topic for this thread. No offence but this thread is regarding the SA not the mod. If you want the community devs to read your concerns you need to post here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/140121-dayz-mod-1771-hotfix/page-29#entry1417049

    Where are all the devblogs?

Well of course, it's common sense and a good business move, I'm not really sure what you're saying other than that. I wasn't suggesting they were doing it for the good of mankind or out of pure charity. I agree. It still doesn't change the fact that what we have here is a rare situation, a passionate developer backed by a respectable publisher and allowed creative freedom. Many larger publishers (EA etc) would have done what they always do with small dev teams, buy the IP, put them to work, throw some money at promoting it, force them to make the game to an insanely unrealistic deadline that will extract the most money from the public and then shaft them if it all goes wrong. I get the feeling that is not the intention of BIS. I'm sure gamers like me that have been gaming for a couple of decades can appreciate how rare this situation is.

    Where are all the devblogs?

Oh I missed that. I'm never sure if sending those things to be reviewed means they're literally waiting to release a patch or if they're just getting things confirmed as they go. Last time there was a delay in releasing a patch Razor made it clear it was good to go and that they were just waiting for the green light.
  16. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Green mountain

    AND DEATH!!!!!
  17. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Where are all the devblogs?

Unless I'm missing something they aren't waiting for a greenlight from Rocket for the mod ATM. They had to wait a bit for the last one due to E3 etc (about a month ago) but since that was OK'd and released I think they've just been working hard on the next one.
  18. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Where are all the devblogs?

Yup, that's the reason I spend so much time doing the modding thing too. The SA is one of the first games I've been genuinely excited about for a very long time. I honestly think this will be a very special game. If it's given the time and space needed (I think BIS are doing that) then I have no reason to doubt that we are seeing the very early stages of a game we could be enjoying for many years to come. That's why I get frustrated with people wanting to see it rushed out for a quick fix. It's rare for a respectable publisher to give a developer free licence and the resources he needs to create the game he has envisioned. It's far from a typical way of doing things and that gives me even more respect for BIS than I had before. As the team scales up throughout development it's likely we could see DayZ receive more if not the same amount of resources that Arma 3 has received. That's one of the most exciting peices of news I've heard in a long time (from Reddit QQ).

    Bulk

Hmmm, I like the idea of maybe finding rare bulk loot drops, not sure how they'd implement needing two or more peeps to load and unload etc without a lot of work. In principle it's a pretty good idea though.
  20. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Bulk

How would we transport crates/pallettes around? We'd need a forklift truck just to load one into a van.
  21. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Where are all the devblogs?

Hmmm, in that regard I wouldn't get too excited. I'd still expect Rocket to post what he wants when he wants on Reddit and Twitter etc. Like it or loathe it that's just him and how he works and I don't see that changing any time soon. I get frustrated seeing him responding to trolls too but the fact is he does that in his own time from home, probably after a long day of being constructive and working on the game. I'd rather that than have a lead dev that's hidden away from the public and who's only thoughts we hear go through a PR filtering process, that's the alternative tbh. I don't care if that continues, as I say, that's just Rocket and occasionally we can actually learn something about the game from it. As long as we're given a clear idea of where they're at and what their next goals are (ideally with some sort of timeframe although we have to accept that's not always possible, hence the "milestone" approach, not a deadline one) then it's all good. It's the lack of solid info most find frustrating, if that's sorted then the rest will take care of itself. I'll be happy with some official news once a month as long as that news has some substance and keeps us in the loop.
  22. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Where are all the devblogs?

It's because they will have a larger team and as a result of that will need a more structured approach overall. It's also because they've been dealing with a lot of unknowns in the early stage so providing any solid info will have been tricky. Anyoo, I pretty much agree with you although I've never been infuriated. If we do get more structured info as we move forward it can only be a good thing.
  23. Morgan, have you asked Amber over at BB? He should be able to sort you out.
  24. Fraggle (DayZ)

Is this okay to do? (SSD+HDD question)

I don't know enough about it to offer decent advice but I'd guess you'd only see a noticeable improvent if the whole game directory was stored on an SSD. It's the rate at which data is transferred that'll improve your performance, only having the map data on the SSD makes me think not much will change as much of the other info the game needs would still be on the HD. It'd be interesting to know for sure though if you or anyone else tries it, I don't have enough knowledge about it to understand what would work tbh.

Toilet Water / Nausea induced attack

Agreed. I see no reason why poisoning or drugging someone intentionally won't be possible whether it's via syringe, food or water. It could be a dangerous game to play unless you know what you're doing, if someone's already malnourished or ill poisoning or drugging them could finish them off, it'll be fun experimenting though.
