ArmA 3 and The Official DayZ mod .

The SA is the next and final step in the development of DayZ. However as far as I know (and I might be wrong) porting the "official" mod into the Arma3 engine has been discussed and may be done in the future. Really, that's all I know about it. It's worth remembering that Zoombies is not an official port.

    Situational awareness chart

I like it. It's a pretty basic chart but interesting. I think a lot of peeps already make decisions based in these things using common sense but it nice to see it in chart form I guess.

I think Frankie needs to take his rose-tinted specs off. People actually robbing others "properly" by holding them up, making them drop their gear and so on has always been a very rare thing in DayZ even way back at the start. I know because I used to try it and 99% of the time people would just log out to save their precious gear. To do it successfully you had to be extremely lucky and find someone willing to play along. There were a few cool hostage and robbery vids around in the early days but many of those were staged. In the SA measures will be put in place to stop combat logging etc and lots of the other small changes already made to the game will go some way towards reducing the KOS mentality or at least make it easier for bandits to rob people without killing them. Lets not be silly though. Many people KOS because it's a legitimate way of surviving. That will never change. There is a large number of players though that currently KOS due to boredome etc and that's as a result of playing the mod for 100's of hours. The mod has VERY limited content, VERY simple survival mechanics and it's VERY easy to gear up. It's those 3 things that make people shoot first and ask questions later. That will all be changing in the SA, even before vehicles and base building are introduced. Anyway, doesn't Frankie script and stage all of his vids? If so he can carry on doing that regardless and manufacture whatever situations he wants. Maybe he's worried that he'll now have to be thrown in with all of the other players and won't have his usual controlled environment. His fans may have to get used to seeing him getting shot in the face a lot more often I guess.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I think there's many things that may make people think twice about shooting on sight now (although many will still play like that because they like it) but I don't think base-building or vehicles have anything to do with it. More things to do, less ammo (so that you have to think about every bullet you use) and a more complex survival system are more important in my opinion.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I take your point but why will it be "too late" to add later on? I think the main point of having an open alpha is that only so much progress can be made on certain gameplay elements before they need the feedback and data from large-scale testing involving thousands of players. There's many unknowns with some aspects of the SA that the sooner they can start collecting data and player feedback the sooner they can address any issues. I'd suggest that maybe Frankie waits until the game is in Beta or fully released if he feels it's not worth playing with those elements missing. Anyhoo, that's my thoughts on it. Welcome to the forum and don't forget that breaking your text up into paragraphs can make it much easier to read :)

I was just speculating but you're right, it'll certainly piss peeps off the more detail they go into. I will drink their salty tears and enjoy it too.

How to mark something on map ?

if you want to add a waypoint then shift-click to add a marker. Then you will see the waypoint on your HUD but that option is dependent on server settings. Some servers have it turned off as some consider it "cheating" because you don't have to learn to read the map properly.

I was wondering that too. Maybe different antibiotics, meds etc will be able to be found individually and it'll be up to us as the player to figure out the different drugs/pills available and their uses. Once you've figured out the use for a particular drug you can stick it in a jar and label it. Something like this would mean organised medic clans would have a big advantage over (or become very useful too) players not willing/prepared to take the time to figure it out. I guess you could also put false labels on things to get some sweet revenge on anyone that kills you and tries to use your meds.

Yeah don't panic, it's fully adjustable on a slider. I like a tiny bit of bloom but not to the point where it feels like I'm spazzed out on morphine. In fact currently almost every aspect of the graphics settings are customisable including the camera blur when you move your head so for peeps that watched the vid and didn't like those things, they can just tweak them or turn them off, problem solved.

That could be my favourite Matt one so far. It really captures his essence.

Yeh I've seen you say that a few times and as a long time Arma player I just have to disagree with you. What makes it "consoley" to you? If streamlining an inventory design or making UI's more intuitive is consoley then I'm all for it. Many older PC games get away with having very poor UI design and Arma 2 is one of them. In gameplay terms I just don't see what you mean, almost every aspect of gameplay has been improved upon for Arma 3. The depth is still there, none of that has changed so I'm not really sure what you mean. Of course it's light on content atm but that is soon to change. Really though I wasn't referring to the actual gameplay, I meant the way BIS are communicating with the Arma community, rolling out patches and making good progress. That's how I'd like to see the SA handled.

@Wolkoz - Agreed. I've always been a bit of a BIS fanboy  They're handling Arma 3 really well so far and making great progress. I hope the SA will be handled in the same way once it gets to that stage, I think it will be.

    Matt and Dean

They are both English. Matt is English born and bred and Rocket is close enough now that I can adopt him.

Lol, I like them too. I just think it may be getting to the point where we actually have too much information and it may ruin the fun when it's released. That's just me though, I've always actually preferred not knowing much about the game I'm about to play and discovering it as I go. For example, after release I'd love this forum to fill up with threads trying to work out the new medical system and crafting etc. If it's all described in minute detail beforehand it just seems a bit of a party killer. Regarding the grief Rocket gets, I agree it's to be expected and he does deal with so that wasn't really my point.

I'd be happy if nothing else was shown until release. I already think there's actually too much information out there about it, more than most games at this stage. Also, it'd be nice to actually have some surprises for people. I don't mean he should stop all communication, tweeting how it's going etc is cool, just the full-on devblogs. They take time andmost people seem to completely ignore the information within them or use it at a later date to try and stitch him up. For me the cons just seem to outweigh the pros.

I'm glad you've started to have fun. As Kander said above, farming gear the way you described by server hopping or "ghosting" is frowned upon by many. It's doesn't really matter I just thought I'd let you know, many people feel that it defeats the whole point of the game, and some admins may ban for it it they see you doing it too much, although I think that's fairly rare. My tip for looting would be to just explore the map. That's half the fun of DayZ. I personally can't think of anything more boring than trying to loot the same building over and over, it just doesn't make sense to me. Be aware that in the Standalone version of the game measures will be put in place to eventually stop people server hopping so it may be a habit you want to break now rather than later. Also, logging out during combat is probably one of the worst things you can do in terms of bad sportsmanship. Many admins will ban you straight away if you do that. I know you're still learning and probably aren't at that point yet but i just thought I'd let you know, if someone starts shooting at you then you either have to fight or run, forget about logging out. Have fun dude, sounds like you're getting the hang of it.

I agree, I was worried about this too. I'd like to see it maybe linked to stamina so that maybe after 2 or 3 times in a row you have to wait 30 secs or so or stop running for a bit.
