I'm growing to love your cheery one liners :) Don't forget the dev team is soon to be expanded. It may be true that the work load may have stretched them a bit (I have no idea, just speculating because it's a big project for a small team) but as the dev team grows I'm sure everything will come together. -

Unless I'm mistaken that's already confirmed for the SA. Rounds and magazines will be separate objects/entities allowing you to swap rounds between different magazines for different guns. -

If things go to plan there won't be any way for people to generate loot maps in the SA. That'll be nice. People will have to actually go and scavenge like the rest of us :). -
I hope it works out for you, you've been really patient. When you do finally get playing that patience will be your strongest asset. In DayZ it's the patient players that generally do well.

I find it crazy how some peeps seem to think it's somehow being intentionally held back because of some sadistic urge to watch us squirm. Crazy. I bet out of everyone in the world right now the no.1 guy that's the most frustrated that it isn't out yet is Rocket. -

Not sure "better fps" is really the feature I was looking for. That's just a performance gain :/. I'm pretty sure there's been 3d gunsight mods for Arma2 for years as well. I meant something specific to the SA.

I've never played or really looked at DayZero tbh although I will be having a peek. What features would you say were "taken" from the standalone just out of interest?

Would be interesting to know more about this. I have a feeling that the DayZ devs work under restrictions that either don't apply to other mod makers or that are sometimes ignored by other mod makers.

Well Youtubes shitty codecs certainly don't help. For a better idea look at the screenshots from the blog instead. It's miles ahead of Arma 2 or the mod. It's never going to look quite as pretty as Arma 3 because of the DX11 lighting but having played both it really isn't far off. There's still a long way to go in terms of optimisation and more engine reworking too so It's only going to get better. Arma 3 and DayZ have very different requirements gameplay wise. There's many reasons they opted to use the engine they have. Game design is about trade-offs. Obviously we all want everything. Well, we can't have it . -

Any mod for Arma 3 will also run into the same restrictions that the current mods has, something the SA doesn't. A mod will always just be a mod with all of the aggro and restrictions for the devs that entails. Being a relatively new engine it will likely suffer from even more issues with bugs than any of the current mods have too. Having said that, it's something I'd love to see. I just don't see it being competition for the SA in the long-run. -
If you add the IP address above that Amber gave you (the complete long number) into "favourites" then you should see it and be able to try and join.

I like the idea of there being a natural food chain/ecosystem in the game, I just think our place in that food chain as a player is as a human survivor. People running round as deer, rabbits and bears etc. fills me with dread for many reasons. If I'm ever running round Cherno and get trolled by a rat it's time for me to find another game I think. -

Regarding the engine choice that's been discussed and explained at length over and over again. Most people seem unable to grasp what the game engine actually is or does and how that can change. It's like trying to bash your head against a brick wall when all people can see is Arma2 engine vs Arma3 engine. It's a lot more complex than that and Dean has explained the decision many times. The dev team is relatively small atm but will be growing considerably as they ramp up the progress. It's possible that eventually it will have the same resources made available to it that Arma 3 had. -

It's probably been like that for about a year tbh. Nothing new there really. At least with the DayZ Daily tweets we can all just keep up with the new stuff. It sounds like it's their new approach and I like it. I much prefer these little but frequent nuggets of info over a larger blog. -

I think you misunderstand. I don't KOS, if fact I play as a medic. I don't want to do that on PVE or roleplay servers though, for me they kind of defeat the whole social experiment that is Dayz. I'm just observing what I see and have seen over the last few months. I'll take my chances on the main public servers. It's just our opinions so none of us can be right or wrong. -
so, dayz is infact mainly pve, not pvp as i thought.

It's an Arma 2 thing. Remember that DayZ is a mod of a pretty old game that is a military sim. Arma 2 had no melee combat at all so the mod developers have done their best to shoehorn it in. Technically in the mod melee weapons are just modified sidearms. There's nothing more the devs can do about it because it's a mod.
