i never play on servers with crosshairs enabled, separates the men from the boys. Most Youtube vids just show peeps running round firing from the hip like noobs, it really annoys me.

I wouldn't worry, whatever get's released there's going to be dummies being spat out left-right and centre. I think the peeps that follow the dev blogs have a pretty good idea of what to expect but maybe the more casual gamers that don't follow it as closely may be mis-informed. Either way, I actually think people are going to be pleasantly surprised with the initial foundation build. After that, then we get the sexy stuff.

It's a shame Pink has had to waste hours of his time dealing with this when he could have been running his server or dealing with more important things. Honestly, I'm not sure about this thread at all. Admining a server is time consuming enough without having to spend hours providing evidence on here to defend yourself from one butthurt attention-seeking douche. I think this thread has the best intentions but in practice will give players with ulterior motives a place to vent their anger, as we can see above.

I guess you could argue that including a single player or "easy" mode would allow players to explore the map at lesiure and in detail without any threat from other players at all, which IMO shouldn't be possible. I guess you can still do this on an empty server but I think other players should always be a threat in DayZ, without that it's just not DayZ. Also, DayZ is supposed to be intense and stressful. When you want to chill for a bit play something else, neck a beer and come back ready to go. One thing I am sure of is that DayZ is not aiming to keep everyone happy. It is what it is and that's it's strength. If we start diluting it to keep the masses happy then it will become another watered down concept that once had potential.

Hmm, turns out someone with your exact username from the exact same part of the world joined a well know hacking site exactly one week ago. Your reason for joining "I'm sick and tired of hackers so I want to join them..!" Well, mission accomplished, you've joined them. Goodbye.

Arma 2 free will give you low res textures on many items including vehicles, it also has lower quality sounds in many cases.

TBH - This thread isn't to discuss the actual whitelisting process itself. It's not a perfect solution and trust me when I say we really would rather not have to bother with it at all as it's time consuming and frankly boring for everyone involved. However, it works. It's far from flawed and our playerbase can vouch for this. Rossums, we're well aware that usernames aren't unique, to get whitelisted on our servers there's a few things we check and we also allow ourselves to exercise common sense. We talk to people in TS and make our judgement based on the info we have.

@Skrewy - Did you read it or not? I thought it was too long? Also, when checking people for whitelisting there's more to it than checking an e-mail. And that wasn't the point of Sula's (she's not a man) post. Luckily the process works and is proven over months, so that isn't up for debate.

It means "too long didn't read". People post it when they're trying to be cool or aloof. If it's too long for you to cope with then just don't post, it's as simple as that.

Nicely said. I think the only part where we differ in opinion is that I enjoy checking on someone and finding out they've got a dodgy past. It makes me realise we're not wasting our time spending hours Whitelisting and however much someone begs, pleads or screams abuse I feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I tell them they're not coming in. Whatever their lame excuses are, everyone knows that when they download a hack or script, they are taking a chance. Usually they are sorry they got caught, not sorry that they hacked in the first place, either way, I don't care.

IMO, yes, very much so. I haven't seen a hacker for a long time now but when I used to play on servers where hacking is common I would alt-f4 as soon as anything dodgy happened. If I was teleported or any wierd messages appeared I would get out of there ASAP. As yet I've never died or lost any gear to a hacker and now day's I just don't see them.

It has a great anti aliasing effect too with some built in motion blur.

I've seen this a few times and it happened to me once before too, it's always been harmless I think. Usually you can just log back in again and everything is fine.
