The inventory system in DayZ is famously tricky to get to grips with. Once your used to it, it works fine though. It's basically a result of this being a mod. Don't worry though, we'll have a sexy new one for the SA, it's already been made :)

I would definatly try the Arma tutorials. They're good fun and it gives you a chance to get used to the controls and so on without having to worry about being shot at or eaten.

New to DayZ and just got kicked by battle eye from what others did to me.

BTW, here's where you'll find the private servers: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/ It can be a tad confusing if you're new because there's so many variations to choose from. I would look for one that isn't too heavily customised (some admins add hundreds of vehicles and so on which for me isn't a good thing). Try and find a well established one with good feedback. If you struggle to find one gimme a shout and I can recommend a few. -

It's only my opinion but I think Chernarus is still by far the best. It's the largest and has everything you could want from a map really. The other maps are good too, they became popular when people that have been playing for months got a bit bored. If you're new though Chernarus is where it's at. -

I would. It's basically hackers messing about. I really would avoid public servers, then you can start to enjoy DayZ properly :) -

Hmm, it sounds like an auto kick. Nothing too much to worry about although it is a pain in the arse. If you're new and already having issues with hackers (which it sounds like you are) I would go and find yourself a good private server that is well run. Take a look through the "Private Hive" section of the forums, that's where people advertise them. Now days (sad but true) playing on public servers is not recomended. Also, the good private severs usually have a good community too so it's a nice way of getting to know people or group up. -
Gore/blood in standalone DayZ + ears ringing after heavy gunfire

I didn't realise the Aussie authorities were so sensitive. I've always viewed the Aussies as a fairly laid back bunch. -
Gore/blood in standalone DayZ + ears ringing after heavy gunfire

Combat deafness from grenades and so on would be great. The ACE mod does it really well and it adds to the immersion as well as tactics. I'd like more gore too. I remember seeing something from Rocket saying he didn't want too much gore but he did want the game to make you shit yourself (literally as it turns out). -

The term "foundation build" was used by Rocket because alpha or beta don't correctly describe what it is. -
DayZ Standalone Discussion
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I disagree. I'm not sure even Rocket has ever liked the name DayZ, it was never really meant to become this popular. Like it or hate it though the name DayZ is now a brand. A very recognisable one. Companies spend millions trying to get brand recognition and so far DayZ has achieved it without spending a penny on advertising. So far it also has a good reputation in the gaming world and only a shoddy release of the SA could mess that up. I agree with Dallas though that the term "foundation build" may now have to be ditched. Gamers were already slightly confused about the term as it's not one people are familiar with. WarZ copied the term instantly for their Steam release and now it has become contaminated. There's many threads on Steam now asking WTF foundation build even means and many see it as a term that can be (and has been) for releasing an unfinished game under the guise of a completed and stable product. -
Is melee combat being worked on for the Stand Alone?
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to Coyster's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes it is. The reason it sucks in the mod is because the Arma2 engine doesn't actually support mele combat. The "axe" is basically a gun, they've had to mess with the settings to get it to act like an axe, but technically, as far as the engine is concerned, it's just a modded gun with a very short range and infinite ammo. This is one of the many reasons the devs moved onto making the SA. It's pointless for them spending months trying to modify an engine to achieve what should be fairly simple behaviours (zombie AI is a good example, that sucks too for the same reason). With the SA they can actually modify the source code, something they've never been able to do with the mod. That is why the SA will have a new inventory system, customisable characters, customisable weapons, melee combat with new melee weapons and lots of other things that simply can't be achieved with a mod. -
Yes they are.

Yes. Your key has been stolen. It is your responsibility to keep your CD key safe, it cannot just be taken from you. Edit - This is your 4th thread on the subject, please don't make another one.

Yay! There's alien eggs on Lingor too and A parking space for women that's twice as wide as the others, sexist but still funny.
-
Wow, that's bloody scary. Did you know in a tunnel you can crawl through in Namalsk in the underground base there's a meme you can find on the wall?
-
Just remember that private servers have been created to combat hacking. In my experience they are the way forward if you want to enjoy DayZ.

The Ironic Irony of it All...
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To keep it secure they won't want anyone having access to the code. That's it in a nutshell really, sucks but true. Arma3 will be moddable though so there's much fun to be had there. -
The Ironic Irony of it All...
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, Rocket talked at length about it and for a good while it won't be modable. He didn't like having to make that decision as at heart he is a modder and would love people to mod it. In the long term it may be opened up for modding but that is a long way off. (I'm sure I could have written that better but you get my point) -
Aaaaaaand locked.

You could try, just give it a clear title with the server in it so that the admin might notice it. Also make it really clear in your post what the issue is along with the ban message.

Something horrible and disrespectful happened.
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to JD10's topic in New Player Discussion
I'd advise you to find a good private server. The admins have much more control over who plays there and a good admin can pretty much make sure there is no hacking at all or in the worst case scenario roll back the server if they do get hacked. I haven't played a public server for over 3 months now and I haven't seen a hacker for a VERY long time. It's not the admins fault, it's just that trying to protect a public server from hackers is almost impossible. -
Nobody knows so I'm afraid your Xmas is ruined.

Medieval Times mod.... in the future
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to ScienceMan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea of a twist in the zombie genre by adding a historical element. TBH I'm not sure modding Arma engine would be the best choice to achieve it though. It's a military simulator. Even adding hatchets was a major problem for the devs and it still sucks even now. That's one of the reasons they moved onto the SA, so that they have more control and access to the engine coding at it's core. trying to mod a game to become something it's not would require the same amount of effort as making a new game from scratch. -

Fraggle (DayZ) replied to JD10's topic in New Player Discussion
It sounds like there's a problem with that server. You could try contacting the admin via these forums or if you're lucky they may have their own forums. Apart from that there isn't much you can do. I know it's horrible to lose gear to a bug/bad server but just remember that this is a mod and there is always a chance of this happening for many reasons :( -

It may be a bug or a bad server restart. Is it public or private?
