    DayZ + Arma Lag/Stutter?

If it's not low FPS issues but actual stuttering then I had exactly the same issue (ish) a few months ago. I'd have smooth fps but then every 5 seconds or so it would stutter (or freeze for a few milliseconds) and then continue. It made the game unplayable for me. I'm not sure which of these things fixed it but I resolved it by: -Opening my rig and cleaning it with compressed air - that ruled out overheating being an issue. -Defragging my HD -Performing a disk-cleanup to remove all of the unnecessary stuff It's basic maintenence really but if you haven't done any of those 3 things for a few months I highly recommend it and it worked for me. Now I'm far from the most tech-savvy guy here so somebody else will hopefully be more specific about the issue but in the meantime I really would consider doing the above.

Yeh but we established that polls are only valid if they back up your argument. If not you can dismiss them.

That's the biggest image I've ever seen on the internet. I think it was actually bigger than my screen somehow. Beans for such witchcraft.

What are you doing to the game we love?

Well every single thing he's said on the matter would suggest no. Time will tell I guess...

I'm genuinely sorry if I offended you. It was meant in good humour to lighten the mood and is purely intended as a parody, it's not to be taken seriously at all, hence delivering it in the form of a cartoon. Please rest assured that I take my position seriously. In fact in this thread I've offered nothing but my honest thoughts (at length) and tried to back up those thoughts with well thought out arguments, I've also tried to provoke discussion and steer it in a more constructive direction a few times when it's become a tad aggressive. Here's the abridged version of my thoughts on the matter all of which are in this thread, I would argue that you have chosen to skip over my points to pick up on individual sentences and repeat your "choice" mantra. In that situation it's impossible to debate with you. Now I could carry on debating here because it's something I genuinely feel strongly about but atm I'm failing to see the point when some are choosing to completely ignore/counter the points I raise, it'll just result in me repeating myself over and over again and that's pretty pointless. Much love.

In the SA the whole loot system is different as is the zed spawn system. As I understand it, it will spawn like the zeds will on server startup and persist in the world. It will of course re-spawn at some point but I'm not sure about the conditions that will happen under.

Errr, all you did was quoted a question I asked (and edited it)..... How about actually answering it instead?

    Car Keys

I'm not sure about them myself tbh. Imagine for example you could open up the bonnet of a car to try and figure out what needs fixing. When you open it you get a UI overlay and are able to use any tools you have to manipulate parts of it/fix it etc. That could actually be fun and it would require some real world knowledge which the player would then have to either know in advance or learn. I quite like the idea of things like that but I'm honestly still unsure if they have a place in DayZ. Maybe....

    Car Keys

Dare I suggest a hot-wiring "mini-game". That way peeps with the skillz and the tools can get cars going fairly quickly and peeps that have no idea what they're doing will struggle for quite a while or need to find some sort of guide or even metagame using Google etc. On a side note - You don't really "own" anything in DayZ, you're just borrowing it for a bit.

I do accept that there may be no practical solution and if that's the case, I can live with that. I don't accept that your solution is perfect though, although I guess it's highly unlikely there is a perfect solution. If there really is no elegant way of doing it then I'd happily settle for the choice between TPV and FPV servers to remain as it is now. Surely the devs at least looking into it is a good thing though? If they decide it can't be done then that's cool. Don't forget they have guys on the team that built the RV engine itself, this isn't Dean sitting in a room messing with someone elses code any more. Nothings been commited yet, they've simply said they want to take a look. I think what baffles/frustrates me is purely the fact that many can't see that it is an actual issue to start with. Wow, we made progress and may even be agreeing on something, it's a beautiful moment.

God I can't wait for the SA....

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

You missed my point again :/. But I think you may be the first person to just admit you like it because you enjoy using it that way so beans for that. I don't want it removed, I accept that many (most even?) players like using it. I think removing it would be stupid. However I've still yet to see one good explanation of why magic eyeballs are actually good for the game. Using it as peripheral-vision in open spaces = Using it to look around corners, over walls and over the edge of rooves = :emptycan:

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Well for me personally that doesn't actually deal with the issue, it just avoids it. I'm not being a hipster or a hardcore veteran, I just genuinely think that maybe (only maybe) something could be done that actually improves the gameplay for everyone without acutaully removing anything or forcing a playstyle on anyone. Using your logic (slightly flippantly) we could just say "why not have carebare servers with cool staring loadouts or PVP turned off because then at least we have the choice! Everyones happy then!". I'd like to think most of us here could see that wouldn't be good for DayZ in the long-run, if something in the game can be improved upon I see no harm in at least looking at the different ways that could be possible.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

No, the problem is that currently the way 3rd person can be used is detrimental to gameplay, for EVERYONE. That's not my opinion on play-styles or which cam I prefer using, just a sensible observation which nobody has really countered yet. Dallas, you're an intelligent guy and I know you've played Arma for many years (since OFP?) and also DayZ for a very long time the same as I have. Please explain to me as best you can how having every rooftop, window (of which there are many more in the SA), wall, large rock or any other type of cover as a potential point for a player to literally sit behind in complete safety while observing his/her surroundings without any risk of either detection or harm is not detrimental to gameplay? It's a genuine question btw because in 54 pages I haven't seen one post that explains why it's good for the game (I don't mean the cam I mean the "exploit"). Even if you don't consider it an exploit then humour me and just consider the actual gameplay itself, nothing else. I explained at length earlier in this thread just one situation (of many) where the way TPC can currently be used gives players in certain situations an unfair advantage and effects the game negatively. It was largely ignored by the peeps that can't see the issue and the so far the best argument to say it isn't an issue is that "everyone can do it" which both ignores the issue completely and spectacularly misses the whole point. It's not just detrimental to PVP players, it's detrimental to every single person that plays the game. If every street in Cherno/Electro (just one example) that is overlooked by countless vantage points has the pontential for a quite literally invisible person to sit there scoping out the area without having to physically expose themselves whilst doing so then it changes the actual gameplay dynamics in quite a fundamental (and frustrating) way. As I explained in my other post about it, the only sensible tactical choice while this is an issue is to avoid those places altogether because however good I am or however aware I am of my surroundings I'm simply placing my safety in the lap of the gods and have to cross my fingers when I enter one of those areas. Of course it should be risky, but I should at least be able to use my eyes to scan potential danger points, while this issue persists that is pointless. They (the observer) just has to wait until my back is turned, pop up, kill me and return to safety (and invisibility). If that's not a bad thing to have in the game then I don't know what is. I REPEAT: I'm not arguing for the removal of the cam, I'm not forcing a playstyle on anyone, I'm not being a hipster, I don't need to discuss authenticity, immersion or any of the other red herrings that keep steering this topic conveniently away from this glaring issue. There may not be an answer that is actually practical but to just brush it off whilst failing to see the issue honestly baffles me. The devs have identified that is is an issue, whether it can be addressed or not is a different question and it may be the case that there is no practical solution, if that's the case I can live with that but to just pretend it isn't an issue just seems crazy to me. If there's a fairly simple way of improving the game for everyone that plays it then of course it at least needs to be looked at. (P.S - I'm asking you specifically Dallas because I genuinely respect your opinion and know you won't just come back with a flippant, sarcastic or overly defensive remark)

Double newsflash! It's already been success business-wise. DayZ is already profitable via Arma 2 sales! That's why they can take their time. Back on topic anyway :/ This threads crazy.

    Car Keys

Because to hotwire older cars all you're really doing is bypassing the ignition which is where you would usually use the key and it's actually a pretty straight forward thing to do. If you wanted to break into an older car you could just smash the window or jimmy the door and hotwire it, no keys needed. I'd be more likely to do that than scour the whole country looking for the right set of keys :/. Remember that the game is set in a scenario where the country is in a mess and it's unlikely to my mind that you'd find cars neatly parked outside peoples houses with the keys handily left on the kitchen table for you. Obviously newer cars present loads of issues with that but even still, finding the actual original set of keys to a car you randomly find in the street isn't likely.
  22. Fraggle (DayZ)

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Well kind of I guess but really it wouldn't have to look too different to how it does now. It's just the movement I'd limit because for me that's where the problems lie. Imagine the cam as it is now in game when it's at your rear looking forward. The only differences would be that the up/down movement would be severely restricted to help stop the invisible rooftop camping situation and the horizontal movement from that position would be roughly 20 degrees or so each way. That doesn't rule out the fact that it could be used to look around corners (it would be a bit trickier) but it would pretty much rule out rooftop camping and looking over walls. Technically it's also very simple (well I think so anyway). I'll have a bit more of a think about it :/ Edit - Wayze is right so maybe offset the cam and tighten it up a bit so it's more akin to an over the shoulder cam but further back but then keep the movement restrictions.
  23. Fraggle (DayZ)

    Car Keys

Yeh sorry, I wasn't making much sense :/ Basically, I think in the scenario the game presents the chances of a survivor finding the right set of keys to a car are just so slim that it's almost not worth the effort to add to the game (imo). But... I would love to see some crafting or tools involved with repairing and hotwiring etc.
  24. Fraggle (DayZ)

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)

Well I'd lock the height of the cam at eye-level (roughly, maybe allow 10-20 degrees of vertical movement) and restrict the horizontal movement of it to a 45 degree arc behind the player. When the player kneels the cam tightens up a bit, when he goes prone it tightens up a bit more. Sorted. Or not.
