Cool. Honestly it's the way forward, I haven't seen a hacker for months. Can we hijack your thread with memes now please?

Is there going to be an Xbox version of the standalone?

Locked. Thread is old and it's been discussed a lot since it was posted on other threads. -
Nice vid! Hopefully it clears thing's up for some people. I seem to spend half my time ATM correcting people that mis-quote Rocket or take a quote out of context to prove a point. The other day I saw a post by a member that quoted Rocket (wrongly/out of context). 30 mins later that quote had been posted as fact by 2 other users and then someone else started a thread to discuss this "fact" and started raging about it. Urhghghghg.

Protip: Don't use a WarZ "screenshot" for a DayZ vid. No offence but if you can't tell the difference between War Z concept art and a DayZ screenshot are you sure your the right person to be advising people on how to play DayZ?
-
Yes, it'll work fine.

I have to disagree. Giving people server-side options is great in some cases but when it comes to things that change the gameplay quite dramatically we've all seen what's happened with private servers. If there was an option for server admins in the SA to double the amount of vehicle spawns for example many would use it to make their servers more appealing to new players and to quickly raise player numbers. Having options to make the game more accessible is the wrong direction to take IMO. DayZ has become popular by doing the exact opposite, by challenging players to learn a new way of approaching a game. There's some thing's that shouldn't be a server side option and I believe this is one of them. If it makes life harder for hackers then that's just icing on the cake. Nom.

I've always played on servers that have the crosshair disabled. Here's why: It stops people firing accurately from the hip. There's nothing more annoying than watching people running around firing DMR's, AS50's and so on from the hip. It's been a bug-bear of mine for a long time and I honestly feel that the crosshair changes the gameplay dramatically (for the worse). What's the point in having a great ballistic simulator (the Arma engine) and then ruining it by giving people a magical crosshair that negates any reason to learn how to use the many different weapons properly. For me it turns DayZ/Arma into an arcade shoot 'em up. DayZ should reward people that spend time learning the finer details of the game (in my humble opinion). If you spend some time getting used to the "feel" of a certain weapon, nothing is more annoying than being shot from 300 ft away by a noob running sideways with an M14 AIM (that he's never used before) firing from the hip using a magical crosshair. I've seen so many vids of people playing like that and it's horrible to watch. To take an accurate shot from any distance you should have to stop, steady your aim and use your sights as in real life. At close quarters you can still fire from the hip and if caught by surprise you can still open up and surpress to buy yourself a few seconds. If you remove it, people will cry, rage and whine. There will be tantrums. After a while people that are used to using it will see the benefits of having it disabled as it changes the gameplay for the better and encourages better tactics, more refined gameplay and rewards players that take the time to learn how to shoot properly. I know it sounds like a rant but I honestly feel really strongly about it. Why spend hundreds (thousands?) of hours refining the mechanics of the various weapons and accuratly re-creating all of the sights and then undo all of that by plonking a magical crosshair on the screen, it's never made sense to me.

We may as well lock it now. It's a simple question ans Smash has already answered. Locked. -
No. If items are removed from your tent then they are stolen and won't re-appear.

I actually asked Matt Lightfoot about this in our Q&A and he said that it could be potentially possible although it's not something they're even close to considering yet. I love the idea of instanced maps and think it would truly turn DayZ into an epic game but it may be just a pipe dream due to the sheer amount of time it would take to create such a thing.

Putting the server in the title is usually a good start if you want the admins attention.

more character types (little girl, little boy, youths, stuff)

That reminds me of "the Hobbit" on the Commadore 64. Great game if you had an imagination. -
Yup, basically try and find a well established server that looks like it has a good community, that's usually a sign they're doing something right. As above a haven't seen a hacker for months.

Old people should be introduced. They could bore and patronise other players to death. -
Good and hack free server - without spawning gear!?!

Noob Question of the day..........
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to Canadian Bacon (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Basically it just means that you can't play on that server until the admin has added your GUID number to the database. IMO it's currently the best way to keep hackers out because they're inherently lazy and can't be bothered spending 5 mins to get whitelisted. -
TBH I've not played the mod for around a month but I was over at Balota Buddies. I pretty much played it to death and wanted to take a break from it before the SA arrives so it feels all fresh and sexy.
-
I'm always naked when I play, hope that helps :). I might ask some of the other mods about us doing an official stream although there may be no point because the "pro" streamers will probably have that taken care of.

Soz MR Voodoo, I too had the same dream and can confirm we're not testing yet, although it's early so our dreams can still become a reality.
