  1. Smoke SIGNAL Map markers are unnecessary. They rob the game of mystery and de-value certain events by providing intel before discovery. Get back some of the mystery and explore this DayZ without map markers ruining the immersion. Use your senses to locate valuable spots/events for essential items. Stay ALIVE!
  2. FAMINE! There are no food spawns here. You will have to hunt if you're going to survive more than a couple of hours. You'll also need a source of water. A fishing pole can be crafted as well as a Knife. These tools can extend your chances of survival significantly, so long as you know where and how to use them. Even if you can find food, without heat or specialised clothes you will freeze anyway. Stay ALIVE!
  3. The server is now LIVE. Be warned, there is no mercy in these bleak and ruthless islands, yet there are comforts to savor. Are you a survivor? Do you have what it takes? 5.135.138.65:2342 FINALdayZsurvivor
  4. The server is now LIVE. For the love of survival, for the players of DayZ. Epoch/Overpoch players won't survive. DayZ survivalists will surely thrive. Stay ALIVE!
  5. Aye - I seemed to have missed that one, thanks for the heads up. You can get me on Skype if you want to chat about DayZ stuff. I'm a bit of a passion freak when it comes to DayZ.
  6. I am at a loss as to what DayZmod is supposed to be? Is it DayZsa with buildables/vehicles or is it ArmaII with zombies? The common consensus is that DayZmod has nothing to do with DayZsa. But I disagree, as servers can be configured to provide a more comprehensive zombie survival game than DayZsa. But the DayZmod community seems blatantly uninterested in survival, despite the fact that the code is almost the same. I'm assuming that many players of DayZmod (in the early days) had said to themselves; "if only, in DayZ we could build things and settle, just like in I am Legend/Dawn/Day of the Dead/28 days/weeks later?" Isn't that why Epoch was developed? Shouldn't that be what it's for?

My dream " House " location in Dayz

Any location with access to pond water is my preference. Prud was always my first choice, though a little too obvious. I guess when/if boats are added the debug island may be considered. In DayZmod it's radioactive so staying more than a few minutes is not a good idea. Idealy it would be best to tunnel into the ground and enjoy the benefits of security and warmth.

Can/should DayZmod Epoch be like DayZsa?

Not on my server you can't; no traders, no map markers, no in-destructible buildables, harsh weather, tougher Ai, rarer loot, craftable kit/meds, more zombies etc. But trying to get this point across to a DayZ community that hates Epoch, or an Epcoh community that hates survival is very difficult. Survival was lost the day they released Epoch when in fact it should've enhanced it. I'm certain I'm not alone as I have a few dedicated players who appreciate what Epoch can be. And I trust the continued development of DayZmod will address this problem as I can see that there is a huge desire to re-settle within the apocalypse, in a realistic manner.

Can/should DayZmod Epoch be like DayZsa?

Thanks for correcting me sir. I love Epoch because, to me it's DayZ with buildables. But I appear to be a singular voice. I can have survival ie; rarer loot, 100% crafting, no map markers, challenging Ai, more zombies, extreme weather etc, in Epoch if configured such. But the DayZmod community isn't interested because it's Epoch. The Epoch community isn't interested because it's survival. I'm disillusioned and frustrated. Perhaps I misunderstood the point of the development of Epoch. I thought it was DayZmod with buildables? The desire to test the ability to survive and re-settle? If/when DayZmod is released with buildables I will be there. Until that day; I persist as a solo survival voice among the maelstrom of gunfire and giggling that is Epoch/Overpoch.

Can/should DayZmod Epoch be like DayZsa?

There are a few server owners out there who can provide an authentic zombie survival game within Epoch but they are largely ignored. Those servers will kill you in 30 minutes if you do nothing either from cold, zombies, infection, Ai and will not provide an assault rifle, high grade common military loot, traders, vaults, map markers etc, just like in DayZ of old. Why can't we have DayZ with buildables instead of ArmaII with zombies? Why is the DayZmod community against survival? You know, if the zombie apocalypse ever really happened then Epoch/Overpoch players would be dead within hours. I play Epoch survival. I would be king.

so i found this server... (insane loot)

It looks like most DayZmod servers these days - lol.

Standalone to mod? Sell it to me.

I adore DayZ. And I did my time roaming around the landscape on foot so I turned to Epoch as I could build a base home and use vehicles. I configured my server to be as close to DayZ as possible and advertised...it was pretty much ignored by the DayZmod crowd. What works there is guns, tanks, jets, traders(wtf?), deploy bike(omg, wtf?) and almost anything else which makes PvP more prevalent whilst diluting the survival aspects of DayZ. So ask yourself; do you like zombie survival? (DayZsa). Or do you want to shoot things from inside a tank whilst laughing like an infant? (DayZmod).

Too late to start playing Dayz Mod?

DayZmod is more comprehensive than DayZsa due to the flexibility it contains. But the player-base is not interested in apocalypse survival. DayZmod has become an ugly, gun toting, vehicle harvesting, PvP fest full of military drop-out/wannabes looking for cheap thrills. There are some servers which can provide a comprehensive and unique survival experience but their voices are drowned out by the militarised servers, therefore struggling to get traction to populate. The shame is that DayZmod can be configured to be a difficult yet rewarding and unique survival game if only the owners were willing to impose restraint. Either the typical DayZsa player hates Epoch/Overpoch, or the DayZmod player hates survival; there seems to be no common middle ground as most DayZmod servers have become ArmaII with zombies instead of DayZ with building. In short; if you want a zombie survival game play DayZsa. If you read 'guns n' ammo' play DayZmod.

    How to survive?

The most ridiculous thing asked in DayZ is; "Are you friendly?" If they are they will say; "yes." If they are not they will say; "yes" and then kill you to steal your stuff and laugh like an infant.

    DayZ Screenshots!

A realistic base home (all the furniture works too). Chernarus razed by the nuclear plant going critical a la Chernobyl; The hardest game you'll ever play, Namalsk's wasteland. Not for DayZ noobs; The savage beauty of Namalsk.
  16. Calling all survivalists... FINALdayZ is offering a true survivors environment. Food spawns are rare. The Admin/Moderators will not provide equipment. Industrial resources are vital due to the lack of traders. If you want uber guns(silenced DMR?), equipment, deploy-bike on login please do not apply. If you're looking for a challenging world where it's up to you to carve out a life, then please goto the forum for more details. Stay ALIVE!

    Namalsk

I had a hardcore survival server on Namalsk. A very tough map, death behind every wrong decision. It had almost no interest as DayZmod players are only interested in PvP and shopping. I'm trying to gather interest to relaunch the server but it's very tough going. Either the hardcore DayZ players hate Epoch, or Epoch players hate survival. Would you/anyone be interested?
  18. Thanks muchly for your interest. Please register at the forum so we can get you started at trying to stay ALIVE!
  19. This server is NOT like other Epoch servers. If you like DayZ but would like more of a presence in the world than a simple tent, then you should take a look at the features on offer here. Epoch/Overpoch has too many guns for an apocalypse. If you prefer an environment where loot is rare and the decisions you make can mean life or death then this is the server for you. Zombies are deadly and abundant, infection is everywhere, even the weather is out to kill you. If you like DayZ or survival I implore you to have a look at the server and comment here to show your interest. There is already a dedicated community and even a player run trader post. But be warned, surviving here is difficult at best, but every player has the same abilities as the next therefore your skill as a player is tested, not how long you play (no leveling system). Stay ALIVE!

Why DayZ is no survival game

The longer you survive - the better at survival you become. You don't need perks; your knowledge and skill is the perk.

Why DayZ is no survival game

Absolutely. I totally agree with you. I hate almost all the servers that host Epoch. The playerbase is interested solely in PvP, gun collecting, car pimping and shopping. I cannot stand the typical Epoch player. I created my own server to mimick DayZ as much as possible and make it DayZ with the ability to build if you can gather the right tools, and I have not made it easy. In almost all zombie films/shows there's an attempt to settle (28 Days/Weeks Later, Dawn/Day of the dead, I am Omega/Legend, The Battery, The Walking Dead). Epoch provides the tools to explore that possibility and this adds value to the players input over time. Perhaps nothing as extensive as Epoch, but the ability to board-up doorways/windows like Resident Evil 4 would be interesting. Wouldn't some people want get off the road and perhaps try to live some sort of normal life?

We need a Hardcore (aka Survival) Mode

I like the idea that healing is delayed, limping the player. And in my opinion, there should be no good canned food. All edible food would have to be grown/harvested after a while. The environment and weather should play a direct role in the gameplay. Having to find shelter, forcing the player into a corner to hide from the undead. Risking the cold to find loot. And if played in 1st person exclusively, it really comes alive as a hardcore experience.

Why DayZ is no survival game

Survival is king. But I always asked myself the same question. How can value be added to a character? For me I found a solution in Epoch. Building a base over time adds value to the character spurning you on to survive. But most servers forgot what DayZ, in my opinion is about; survival, but became militarized. So I configured my server to provide a harsh environment, bad food spawns, rare loot, limited 3rd person, no traders etc. And added my own mods to create a crafting system for trash items. It is not a popular server and never has been because of the progression of DayZ Epoch into ArmaIIOA with zombies. The value of loot was diminished. I hate FPS's, but I love survival and for me, epoch; my way draws me in to spend £30/month to sit on my own, but with my own home, car, and things that my character managed to scrounge/craft over time knowing that I managed to survive and also, have something to show for it. That for me, creates the value in playing DayZ(mod).
