Don't answer the door when you are playing Dayz
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Sistinas1973's topic in General Discussion
My roommates cat was head rubbing my hand as I tried to point with the mouse while playing the other day. I found a safe spot to crouch in a building and proceeded to pet teh kittah. I did not die. Here she is with my bike. If you like cats, she's a good 'un.- 27 replies

Yet again (in this thread), this is the depth of your contribution, effectively a non-contribution. *slow clap*

It is difficult to respond to you based purely on the fact that you're unable to comprehend what I wrote prior. You need to slow down and go back over what I wrote. Your responses do not match what I wrote and you are certainly twisting things I've said in both your posts. 1: Yes. I was talking passionately, about a video game. DayZ holds 0 sway over my life and I have spent months away from the game when it was not to my liking. I am a creative person and I consider games to be Art. I very rarely find a band, movie director, or game developer that gives me much faith in the creative world at large and DayZ is a rare instance where I believe in the developers vision and have supported it nearly from it's inception. Most games are not innovative and offer little in the way of new experiences. DayZ breathed life back into online PC gaming for me. 2: "I hope you're aware people who kill other players not necessarily server hop or, generally, exploit game flaws. If I were a malicious person I'd start thinking this was a clumsy attempt at gaining the moral high ground...you know, arbitrarly linking a legitimate in-game behaviour to cheating and all that stuff." ^^^Here's where you put words in my mouth and it's obvious my clear and concise point was completely twisted (or you're trolling). I mentioned exploits and server hopping as being in the game, and things people do which I don't care for either. I NEVER said people who KoS also hop/exploit. 3: "I never said KoS was the reason people leave. I said KoS players seem to get bored with DayZ faster. NONE of the people I had this conversation with 2 years ago while playing the mod are here now having this conversation. They have either only left the forum (for a different forum or none at all) or left DayZ, the latter being more likely than the former." ^^^This is a well written, perfectly cogent sentence. 4: Yes, using 30+ year old D&D slang is relevant to gaming. Yes, I am speaking of my mod experience because it was relevant to my point prior. Please show me where that is forbidden. I also believe the terms we use to describe play styles is important as I believe language and being understood is important too, something you do not seem to value. 5: Your last paragraph is a perfect example of you twisting what I said and clearly not comprehending the core of my statements. If you cannot take the time to try to understand what I wrote, I have no reason to respond further. In fact, I will not even justify your last paragraph with a point by point reply and if you went back and read what I wrote in both of my posts you would find you completely ignored what I wrote.

#1: So glad I'm not calm. The torpid, jaded mind of the average person is a fate worse than death. Passion inspires the things you may like most.... Art, Love, DayZ. #2: I want to be one of the few voices AGAINST KoS. You are free to KoS, server hop, and exploit game mechanics all you like. #3: KoS is for murderers, murdering thieves, and griefers. These people are part of the game and the first 2 are "ok" to me as they play a part in the DayZ experience, a griefer is just that, and could playing any game to get their rocks off. #4: I never said KoS was the reason people leave. I said KoS players seem to get bored with DayZ faster. NONE of the people I had this conversation with 2 years ago while playing the mod are here now having this conversation. They have either only left the forum (for a different forum or none at all) or left DayZ, the latter being more likely than the former. #5: Throughout most of your response you seem to think I am telling people how to play. I am telling people how I play and how that does not include KoS for any reason. PLEASE do not call yourself a survivor or a bandit if all you do is KoS. There are A LOT of people who all they do is KoS. I commend you for playing in a variety of styles and I have done so as well in the past, though I have never had an interest to play as bandit/murderer. I played as a lone wolf and had 30+ day characters with motorcycles and pickup trucks I built myself and 1,000+ zeds, 0 murders. Do you not think that was a challenge?? Admittedly, I became bored with playing alone (after 3 or 4 months) and tried to find random friendlies, with mixed results. Around this period I dabbled in bambi assistance and some random medic work. Also, don't mistake chaotic neutral for good. If I can avoid a conflict by fleeing, I usually will. I will happily surrender a prime loot location to preserve my character. If you manage to corner me or do not respond to repeated voice and text questions I may kill you for self preservation. I hope they bring over a touch of the hunger, loot, and temperature tweaks from the latest experimental build. A LOT of people will not like starving and freezing before they can run to NWA.

If you see someone and do not try to communicate with them before you fire upon them that is the definition of KoS. Perceived threat or not. You made your choice. I role play what I consider a true survivor and I have a firm grip on reality when I do so. I just have enough of a developed imagination that I stick to my characters principals regardless of situation. Most people who KoS get bored of this game faster than those of us who don't. I have seen countless players of just this type leave in a few months of play time and I'm happy to see them go.
-
It is not "acceptable" for me to KoS anywhere in this game. I really wish the people who played this way would stop making excuses, patting each other on the back, and encouraging/supporting others in picking up this practice. KoS is KoS is KoS. You're MURDERERS. Not survivors, not bandits. Edit to say: Maybe after a year or 2 of reading repetitive threads you'll stop putting up shields of text for new members who don't search the forum and contribute to a "master thread" o nthe same topic.

If this means I can play as lefty, I'm all for it. IMMERSION
-
Being left handed, I would like the option. Us lefties are only 10%, so it's not something devs usually put much time into. And in all, I could see the only real difference being in the arc of melee weapons.

Mr. Jizz's Manifesto of Player Interaction
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I play as if there is humanity as a gameplay element. I keep score within. I RP this way as purist survivor. I don't play many shooter games but I was hooked on Resident Evil from the beginning. This feels like it has the potential to be some sort of open world Resident Evil with even more health factors and random evil players who try to kill me! Imagine a 20yr S*T*A*R*S* veteran (see: Biohazrd JPN on PS1) washed up on a beach after a world wide rage zombie infection. I'm basically "chaotic good", I guess. I was zombie hunting, with a side of bambi assist/hero in the mod a lot. As a lone wolf in the mod I had month long characters with multiple vehicles, camps, and over 1,000 zeds dead, Fred. With broken and less zombies in the game, I haven't really been able to continue my mission of cleansing the Earth of the unholy hordes. One day, when the sun shines a little brighter on dusty ol' Chernarus, I'll have me lots and lots o' smelly flesh ripping zeds to lobotomize. -
I wish someone else would field this. Combat logging is INDEFENSIBLE. Closing the application to evade mortal peril was not put in as a gameplay mechanic, it's an exploit of the personal computer platform. If this was on a console you would have to kill your internet or unplug the console mid game to combat log. ;) ?

I thought you were going to have screen shots of your character with gangrene or sepsis. :(

Mr. Jizz's Manifesto of Player Interaction
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I commend you on an unusually well written and well thought out OP. However, I could not read the rest of your beautiful post due your first point. I have had friendly encounters at military sites. I am "friendly" at military sites. I am not running away from you to get a better vantage point to shoot you from. I've been murdered countless times over the last 2 years (mod + SA) and nothing has ever made me change my mind about any form of KoS. Period. -
*Royale One day in the future when this game is close to complete, I imagine we will see more visible organized events.
-
Hey, guess what? Combat logging is an exploit. Thanks for playing.
-
Where did you get a finished version of the game? I want one too!!! The "game" is projected to release in 2016. If you have a time machine, you're seriously holding out on the rest of us.

Hi folks! I often see the terms we use to describe the different playstyles as meaning different things to different people. I personally feel it's important to agree upon the language we use to ensure we are understood when discussing different DayZ playstyles/practices. Below you will find my PERSONAL definition of the terms, the way I think they should be used. I would welcome your ideas or changes regarding these terms. Fresh spawn (Bambi) - unarmed, mostly harmless regardless of play style. Survivor (Carebear) - Loots for gear, hordes gear (when persistent of course), repels zombies, bandits, murderers, and KoS'rs, only when necessary, and would avoid conflict unless cornered (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Mountain man - Subsists on sparse prefab gear preferring to craft and hunt for supplies/food. Often hiding far from civilization they avoid all encounters with other players (mostly alone/Lone Wolf style). Medic - Loots and are usually pacifists whose primary goal is to heal players of any affinity on purely moral principal (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Hero - Loots and assists bambis/survivors/medics, usually hunts for bandits/murderers (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Bandit - Loots for starter gear and then takes on the role of a thief who attempts to rob it's victims of their loot using mostly non-lethal means and will only use lethal force when they meet resistance or other bandits (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Murderer/Assassin - May loot or kill for loot. A killer that can take many forms (sniper, close combat assassin, medium range assault specialist) and often carefully chooses their victims based on "grief profiling" (see also, internet tears), a challenge they may represent based on their gear, or purely for the thrill of killing another armed and aggressive player (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). KoS'r - Prefers to loot as little as possible. As a Bambi they will seek the first weapon they can get their hands on and try to kill any and all players they encounter until they have enough gear to consider a raid on a military location. Once in full military gear this player will often turn into a Bambi sniper or merely just continue engaging every player they come across in a firefight until they start the process again (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style)..

Playstyle definitions or What's a Bandit?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to ☣BioHaze☣'s topic in General Discussion
While I appreciate the sentiment, the names for game play styles should not be seen as stereotypes but merely terminology. All definitions are flexible to degree, and some people switch between play styles on a whim. -
"Freaking" was used out of frustration, not anger. Bandit isn't jargon in this context, it means that you use the threat of violence as a means to robbery. The word has been co-opted by the KoS crowd to add legitimacy to their tactics. The same KoS players call themselves "survivors" now because they think the entire game is kill or be killed. The language we agree upon is important and shouldn't be made to be self serving. I have wanted to make a thread about the different definitions for the play styles we see and this has inspired me to do just that now... thanks! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212197-playstyle-definitions-or-whats-a-bandit/

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
☣BioHaze☣ replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Hi! Welcome to DayZ forum! Please take the time to read the last 3-4 status reports to answer your questions regarding Zombie AI and Zombie pathfinding. Many regulars here stay on top of the development by following the Devtracker and Status reports which are posted in dedicated parts of this forum. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/134-development-blogs-status-reports/ Please take the time to read up before posting new topics. Thanks! -
What? You mistake anger for a person who can clearly pose an impassioned debate and I try hard not draw assumptions about any random person on the internet. Nearly 35 years of gaming and I'm not an "elder statesman"? WTH does that make me then? Sorry buddy, a bandit robs people and in no way does robbery have to end in murder. Producing a weapon does not entail using said weapon. Cuffs, restraints, less than lethal weaponry, all things added/being added to aid in non-lethal robbery attempts (amongst other things). (Edited for spelling.)

KoS does not = Bandit I'm really freaking tired of this prevailing misuse of the terminology. KILL ON SIGHT = Exactly what the words say. It's when you shoot everything standing on 2 legs that passes in front of you. "KoS'rs" are MURDERERS, lazy, griefing, jaded, FPS gamer monkeys trained by Halo/CoD/BF. That is the definition of a KoS'r to ME. If this offends you, than maybe you resemble my remarks (generation Y, I'm looking at you). I've been gaming almost as long as video games have existed. EVERY game that includes a firearm has programmed you from the beginning to shoot everything that moves. MOST players cannot imagine acquiring a firearm in a game and NOT shooting everything ASAP. If you pick and choose who you kill based on gear and perceived intentions you are not a Kos'r. I look forward to a balance in game that makes real banditry more attractive to those who desire an immoral storyline. I stand by my original statement and would like to further add that KoS is about as creative as paint by numbers.

I've stopped using BioHaze and I probably will never use my Forum name in game again. If I truly confirm you as friendly and we talk for a good long while, I will probably get around to talking about the forum and my involvement there. I have met a few people in the past who I was able to avoid KoS with by dropping my forum name but I'm not sure if they knew me from here or merely respected my plea for a neutral passing.
-
I feel like there might be a lot of people who paid 30$ to play now, who won't be interested in DayZ a year or more from now due to the changes that will be implemented as development progresses. Every update sees it's share of people quitting the game out of many forms of frustration and every update sees an influx of new players the majority of which will never stick with DayZ in the long run. I for one, welcome their money now and welcome the balancing that will come with Beta, later.

KoS is about as cool as the guy who fondles random women on the subway and takes less courage.

I often tell myself that DayZ Forum is in Alpha just like the game. It helps when I open threads full of questions that could be answered if the OP actually followed the development news. Also, if you really want to snipe, with all the modern gadgetry AND have an unrealistic amount of EASE with landing your shot, play a different game. Sorry, no refunds.
