  1. Let's play devils advocate here.... Bullet damage is quite different than say a chopper crash. While both are devastating, a piece of gear can be held or positioned during a crash so that it sustains little/no damage. Now put that same piece of gear in a jacket pocket and fire a medium caliber round at it at close range and you'll find quite a bit more damage (especially to optics). 2 tons of crush force is not = to 2 tons of ballistic force, no? Now I would like to see that thing that can withstand 2 tons in your pocket maybe absorbing some of the player damage when it is damaged itself.

    Tag & Release #7 - Hardcore - Capturing a heavily geared player.

Nice to see some people are trying to rob without killing, whatever the reason.

The weakest thing you can do

My longest neutral encounters tend to be 5-10 minutes. This helps keep down the chance for anyone bringing in their friends via TS/external chat. I also will never show a strange "friendly" player my back, ever, and if you start making weird requests, I just bolt for the wilderness.

    killing new spawns

The longer you go without becoming a murderer the more satisfying it is when you finally meet another neutral survivor. I try to gain a vantage point when I engage someone new and then I often offer food or a trade if it looks like they have less gear than I or about the same. I always try to speak before firing on another player. This leaves me open to a variety of experiences and sometimes leads to me getting attacked or killed.

    Status Report - 17 Feb 15

All of the cars I've owned were manual transmission, by choice. In my experience, you can skip gears with some types of gear boxes. I knew a guy who abused his poor Jeep Cherokee (see also couldn't drive) and would often start it in 2nd gear and drop the clutch and skip gears often. It was amazing how the car held up... That being said, you should probably be able to wind out 1st and bog into 3rd on a level or downhill road, stalling with any uphill resistance. Trying to skip gears though, in most low speed conditions, should probably stall a large diesel engine and should be something someone could do accidentally if they weren't paying attention or were careless about spamming keys. I guess my point is, it would be authentic to have a mechanic for stalling if the shifting process is botched somehow.

    Did .53 remove sunglasses?!?

No sunglasses here. 2 can openers. 1 damaged, 1 pristine.

Getting really bummed out after buying this game.

Always keep in mind that DayZ is still 2 years from completion. You did not buy a finished game! I think we will see a large improvement in all aspects of this game in the next 6 months.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

There's no link. The word developed underlined and bold to make a point. Simple version: Without a clan stash or a tent a fresh spawns' first priority will likely not be to fight with the first person they see. Loot scarcity and health factors will change the way DayZ is played. I'm done here, thanks.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

I think you have a limited understanding of the game being developed here. If you are starving, freezing, sick, and dehydrated, your chief concern won't be a deathmatch. You can't kill if you don't have a weapon. You can't shoot if you don't have a bullet. If you have 7 bullets and the Zeds you see take 5 and there are 3 other KoS assholes in Berezino, how many apples does Johnny have left? Answer: You Are Dead. Persistence won't change this much either as we all that actually search the map really enjoy finding your camps/gear that you thought you hid. And really it's "ok" because for every 2 COD PvP kids that leave because no more DM, we will get 1 survivalist or zombie hunter in his place. :) I've played DayZ since the early months of the mod and we still aren't even near the survival elements that were in that version of DayZ.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

You completely missed my point somehow.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

Yeah, um, this game has been out for a long time now. A lot of us wouldn't remember this. This game may currently support a lot of PvP but soon enough, it will not. Maybe we'll see threads like...."Has anyone been able to find more than 5 bullets at a time?". I'm looking forward to ALL the tears of the PvP set.

    The reason behind KoS: ?

I never KoS. There should be that 4th option. I'm not afraid of dying in a video game and I've lost more save data in over 30 years of gaming than the average gamer and because of that I don't care if I lose my character. I don't want the loot (I enjoy looting, see also not afraid to die). I don't want to just perform murder after murder (I could go play a lot better FPS games for that), that's not why I am playing DayZ. I don't get bored because I don't abuse and metagame everything, I even stopped using maps a long time ago so I could have a more random experience (map changes add to this). I think I'm currently going to play less until more/new infected are unleashed.

    I keep getting PKed

To some degree, yes. But I'm not for forcing a play style on anyone at all. It may just force the real murderers to sort of RP more about it. Some people will be downright turned away from DayZ by the changes. Clans and teams will always have an advantage with gear and vehicles, especially when persistence is in properly. For those of us less interested in just PvP, it's sort of a wait and see scenario for the next 24 months as to how the game evolves and the player base with it. I'm really looking forward to it! Playing on low pop servers and always being the first to engage can help a player have more neutral/friendly encounters.
  16. ☣BioHaze☣

    I keep getting PKed

TL;DR the rest. KoS will likely always exist but the implementation of more health/survival factors and more infected with better AI will likely change a lot of this.
  17. I took some months off this past summer but have really enjoyed the last few months of patches. There's nothing wrong with taking a break, especially when you factor in the roadmap. Taking breaks can/will breathe new life into DayZ for you too!

About Jan 15 week 05 patch

I only know of an experimental update. Stable should be the same until the next wipe/update.
  19. Meh. I started with the mod, earlier than most and I'm patient for all these things and more; currently happy to test all the bizarre iterations of the SA and NOT burn myself out on DayZ in general before it's even done.

Steven Seagal - The Greatest Actor In The World

Sometimes I can manage a range of British accents with varying degrees of success. :/ I grew up watching Monty Python and other UK comedies on public television in the 80's and watch a lot of UK film currently. Some movies that feature very thick/ethnic UK accents often come with subtitles these days. I currently live in one of the most language diverse neighborhoods in NYC/the world and really enjoy it. More on topic: I've enjoyed the videos you've shared so far. Thanks!

Steven Seagal - The Greatest Actor In The World

I like your brand of bloody accent, you right cheeky tosser! Seriously, some British accents (the Queens English and all that included) is quite pleasing to the ear. "Bah-nah-nah". Anyway, New Yorkers don't have accents, you all do!! ;)

    Are Bandits a bad thing?

I haven't read all the replies here but the entire first page basically reads as if the current state of DayZ resembles the finished product.

New Player, 20 hours in, I'm decently geared, now what?

Hi! Never get attached to your gear. Welcome! Your current experience in DayZ is temporary. There are many things that will be tested as soon as in the next few months that may drastically change game play (new renderer/more zombies). One thing to do? *Wait 2 years for game to be finished. ;) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you really want to be a lab rat, try the experimental builds when those get rolling. Report bugs to the bug tracker if you have patience or relate your experiences in the relevant threads. Considering the age of DayZ mod and DayZ SA it is also good to use the search function for preexisting topics when you think you have something to add to the "grand conversation" that is DayZ dev. Follow the dev tracker and build number threads. Most of all... have fun! Try roleplaying hero (good), medic (good), survivor (neutral, speaks before shoots), TRUE Bandit (NON LETHAL thief, neutral/evil), murderer (is an evil fucking KoS murderer, basically). Sincerely, Never get attached to your gear.

    Jump and Grab Mechanic

This is an old suggestion and one that was shot down pretty early in development (if I remember correctly). Considering gear/weight/stamina and a host of other factors I would consider it "inauthentic" for a character to jump while encumbered by much of anything besides normal clothing and a light backpack.
