How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
For now there are no deterrents in place to prevent or discourage this way of playing (server hopping). Hopefully in the future we will see something implemented. Successively longer log out timers the more servers you switch in a short period of time could do it. Switch once in 30 minutes a 60 second timer appears, again in the next 30 minutes a 5 minute timer appears, a 3rd time in the next 30 minutes brings a 10 minute timer, and after a 15 minute time out is accumulated you are locked out for an hour with a visible warning and your activity log is brought to the attention of an admin. Something like this that is fair may be difficult to implement but I do believe there must be a way to reduce or do away with server hopping all together. -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
I play public servers only. No one can or will force me to leave the public hive. I adapted how I play and my adaptations will holdover well as the games changes. I have 2 public servers I play on and only switch when one resets or crashes. To suggest that everyone will server hop because of global loot is just wrong and merely an excuse for abusing a system you think everyone abuses. If promoting the exploits of this game were something you could get banned for I would have reported you by now. -

Good job, man. No need to KoS when you've got brass balls. :D -
I often think that too much tweaking can be a waste of time unless you have a serious problem running the game. The game has so much that's constantly being patched and added that the performance of DayZ on each rig can change overnight. Here's to hoping the new renderer helps us all save the frames!

I read (and comprehend what I've read) better than most and I write even better on the same scale, thanks. Even 10 flying vehicles per server is ridiculous. With just 5 of those operational on a single server, you'll have battles for air superiority over every map.
-
I understood this just fine thanks. Not everyone should have or get the opportunity to build or fly aircraft in DayZ, period. If it weren't for the time intensive nature of acquiring one or the advanced controls needed to pilot one, you would find DayZ turning into a helicopter gunship game far too quickly. 5-10 choppers AND airplanes on a single server?? That's never gonna happen.

Now imagine logging into this forum for well over 2 years and reading the same threads by new guys all the time. Yay!!

Having read a number of your posts, I do not believe you understand the direction DayZ has taken from the beginning. DayZ is never supposed to be about instant gratification. Nearly every aspect of DayZ is process driven. That is why there is no "reload" hotkey in DayZ.... I had a couple of opportunities to steal choppers in the mod but never did so because I knew I would likely just kill myself crashing it. Keeping vehicles near sim level to operate forces the person to either learn the right way to pilot them or suffer the consequences.

What can be done about ghosting on public servers?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
If I cannot find a particular item I do not hop to another server to try to find it there, ever. There is no single item in the game that I care to have so badly that I want to break immersion by teleporting. When I find rare items "oganically" it can be very satisfying and makes me care even more for my character. In the past I have only changed servers when one crashes/DC's or has other issues like an influx of hackers or admin abuse. -

This is not accurate. I play vanilla, vanilla, 1st Person, vanilla, ONLY. I'm a zombie hunter (we're back baby!) and survivalist RP player who doesn't seek PvP and enjoys a low pop but PUBLIC server with vanilla settings. I'm sure there are lots of people who play the way I do as well, in public. I also usually have no more than 2 servers I frequent for my 1st person character and usually just stick to 1 unless it goes down. Server hoppers and ghosts are the absolute lowest form of life. Lower than KoS assholes. -
I would like to see extremely limited light aircraft. Maybe one buildable Cessna type per map, maybe an ultralight single seater as well. The parts would be super rare, the fuel would be rare, and the flying would be at sim level. This would be a very late addition in the build cycle as well.

I think they are schools but have been referred to as police stations in the past as well.

I guess your sarcasm detector is on the Fritz then. If you think I was "not using my wet noodle" when I somehow survived 30+ days/1,000+ zombies (+50% headshot ratio) in the mod, please let me know. Amazing how you can project a fictional way that I play a video game and then say something like, "And, considering how you can watch friends games in-progress with the Steam streaming-feature (I forget what it is called), it is entirely possible that I could watch you play. If we were friends, of course.", to somehow back it up?

1. There will be A LOT of tears from the PvP only set when infected become a threat. 2. Many people will flock to clans for easy regearing so they can PvP faster and more people will use tents for the same reason. 3. Some private servers will possibly start featuring lowered infected rates to suit those who want more PvP. 4. RP roles will become much more "relevant" again with a greater need for medics, more opportunity for heroics, and more incentive to use stealth as a true bandit, to rob or subdue a victim instead of firing on them recklessly. 5. The few, the proud, the zombie hunters, will be reborn!!

^Who are you talking to Whyherro123? Can you hack into my game in progress and watch me play? Fucking A, man.

I agree that there is too much ammo currently. My only point there was that when we have more infected, you'll probably wish you had more bullets....

"Missing question" during PAX East: Storytelling through Player Interaction
☣BioHaze☣ posted a topic in General Discussion
Hi folks! I thought it would be interesting to hear other peoples thoughts on this discussion at PAX East, posted recently in the official section of the forum. Personally, I do not follow streamers for DayZ anywhere, and I only currently follow 1 streamer on twitch, and I rarely watch DayZ youtube vids, so much of this was not terribly interesting to me with the exception of one (in my opinion) very obvious thing that was not discussed or was otherwise somehow overlooked.... ....no one seemed to wonder aloud how the intrinsic changes to the game (very near implementation) will effect how they play and how the community at large plays. Sure private servers, modded servers, separate shards, will all have custom settings to facilitate types of gameplay but the grand experience will be drastically altered by many upcoming changes. Correct me if I'm wrong but one major factor implemented properly (like when the infected numbers rise) will make playing the way many of the streamers play very difficult, if not near impossible. The idea of all these people having to adjust to what are the "rules" (gameplay mechanics) of DayZ sort of fascinates me. I know I'm personally looking forward to a very different experience..... Thanks for thoughts/beans! Original official post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222061-pax-east-storytelling-through-player-interaction/ -
Not sure you'll feel this way when infected numbers rise. Did you play the mod?

^Well then, you need to read that block of text above the words, "I Understand" that you click, a little more carefully. -

Wheres the "Dean with it" gif? Wall glitch is being looked at soon according to dev tracker. I'm sure logging/ghosting will also be sorted. You really need to remind yourself how early these builds are and how drastically things will change in the coming months. I play on public servers but avoid PvP when I can. I've only had 1 instance where I inadvertently cornered someone and they logged out rather than interact, so I executed them. -
"Missing question" during PAX East: Storytelling through Player Interaction
☣BioHaze☣ replied to ☣BioHaze☣'s topic in General Discussion
^Exactly. Playing in wild ultra aggressive fashion will become extremely risky. Stealth, team work, and survival strategy will truly become more attractive ways to play. I'm just amazed/tickled by the sort of bubble the PvP mil-RP set seem to live in. Your DayZ of surviving without care are numbered... Persistence, clans, and tents, will be enough to often sustain the murderers but the checks and balances (more zombies, and medical problems) will often hinder them and force them to adjust. I think a lot of people will not enjoy DayZ when it becomes more difficult and less of a giant game of grab ass (like every other FPS). I also hope we see a fix to 3rd person wall peeking. I basically never play 3rd person for this reason alone (plus you get less KoS and bandits). -
Where's that guy who wants to RP "Hobo with a shotgun"? He definitely wants this....

Thanks! So much curiosity satisfied in one place. Well done! :beans: :beans: :beans:

I've only ever played Vaniller DayZ and it will likely stay that way for a good long time. Awesome work, devs!! So exciting to see years of day dreaming about DayZ begin to become reality!

Wow. That bullet drop compensation blind shooting from a short barrel .45. :o Awesome.
