When I noticed all the chickens I wondered if the chickens were somehow injected with dynamic AI spawn script as a way to begin testing the mechanic. Also, it encourages testing of cooking. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Experimental SA .60 patch *please

It's DayZ(ero).

Science with a respawn button. :)

Hmmm, no patch today either I'm guessing? It seems they encountered something extra nasty or hard to nail down. Now I'm thinking we'll be lucky for a patch by Friday....

THANK YOU. I have been seeing the same and thought it was a local Java script error, but maybe now it really is server related. I saw a couple of other errors trying to log in as well. A red drop down comes out above your log in email that says, "internal server error" or if you press the giant log in button at the bottom of a thread it brings you to a blank page that references a Java error of some kind.

I took a step back from DayZ after the rollback last weekend, which was followed by short sessions and long log in attempts. There's not a whole lot more I personally feel the need to do in this patch until we get some fixes/patches to test/break. My gut says tomorrow might be good for a patch but who knows!! Honestly I'm just so impatient for .61 already, though I do understand .60 is a long term Experimental candidate I am super psyched for dynamic AI, which I hope includes infected in every town, and outside towns as well.

This may be a dumb or somewhat pointless question but.... What's the difference between a database update and a patch? I have my theories but I'm curious if someone can clarify.

Hello DayZ maniacs of all stripes! I was just watching Dual Survival when the narrator mentioned a survival term, "the umbles". NPR Article on "the umbles". This is mostly in reference to hypothermia but I believe it is also true to some degree (with differing effects) for hyperthermia and illness/infection as well. "First we lose some fine motor skills, McLaren says, "and we start to fumble. And tumble. And stumble." Then our cognitive abilities are compromised. "We mumble and we grumble."" Currently we have what could be considered some fumbling, represented by sway from running (placeholder representation of stamina lose), and shaking from cold/infection/pain(?). All of which really only effect aiming. I am hoping that the character controller module being added will open the game up to a varied types of all these impedance and with a moderate amount of degrees and variations depending on the condition. i.e.: If you were hungry, hot, cold, or maybe even weighed down, or over sprinted, the "fumbles" could add a higher failure rate for crafting or building things on top of adding more sway or shakes when aiming. Realistically, your reaction times in general, when driving, and your basic levels of concentration would be hampered just when hungry.... so crafting or mechanical tasks would be more difficult as well as aiming. I would not want to see this done in an overly complex fashion but I do believe a middle ground can be found where the degrees of impedance feel natural in relation to the degree at which your character is afflicted. i.e.: Starting a fire with a hand drill kit while hungry should should have a higher rate of failure directly related to how hungry you are. This whole scheme can be fleshed out rather readily going down the list of factors (cold, hungry, weighed down, hot, sick) and attributing the appropriate debuff/physical manifestations. I feel like this is something we all think about and have discussed in pieces but have not bundled up into one discussion. Please add, shoot down, bean up, or discuss at length/leisure. Thanks for reading! *Gets KoS'd*

We had a rollback this weekend, not a patch. And the rollback is highly unstable for most of us. There is time today for a patch but somehow I think tomorrow or Wednesday is more likely.

"This app is currently receiving high amount of traffic." Since maybe before PAX I've seen this on the DB tracking website. Interest isn't waning all that much....

I say this all the time. DayZ has a more balanced player base before 5pm and after midnight on most weekdays. Weekends and prime time are popular for the KoS casuals. I think the lack of aggression people are seeing is a product of less loot/ammo. Some level of scarcity seems to be taking hold which is making people be more selective about engaging. You've got it backwards Brooks. Noctoras has been a supporter of scarcity for a long time.

Flares should make good wolf and bear deterrents. Bear grade pepper spray be a welcome addition too. Thank you.

Experimental/Unstable Branch: 14 May 16

@Hicks_206 (DayZ) This level of engagement with the community is most excellent. Thank you for taking the time (especially on the weekend) to roll back from the less stable build AND keep us so well informed. -
Played another long day of sessions with the same regulars as yesterday. We had sessions ranging from less than 15 minutes to over an hour. Seems some hacking is being attempted on these servers. We saw some global bans followed by improved performance. Long strings of battleeye kicks were seen as well, though I I'm not sure I experienced any myself. We went to 3PP to try to swim to a possible new string of islands with no luck. I was a fresh spawn and had some trouble finding a quiet town to loot, there were so many random players I just kept having to leave areas for safety. Eventually we met near Tulga and then hit some fire stations along Elektrogorsk for waterproof gear. I killed a few infected with an amphibia and noticed it was killing the female infected in Cherno in just 2 body shots. I barely burned any calories during an hour long swim, nor did my temperature ever really become a problem. While Tatanko was hungry and cold when we finally returned to land. ^The longest seconds, ever.

Is it Possible for 3PP to NOT be Overpowered?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Kohlbar's topic in General Discussion
How the fuck did I make anything personal? And what happened to "have a nice day", melty? Isn't that supposed to mean you were done before...? Ok, I'll take another "last word" then. PETER came out and said people should play 1PP as well, not just Hicks! (And I think a third team member said it somewhere.) You calling me bipolar, or immature, is not helping your fairly butthurt comments either. I attack ideas, and game concepts, you have strayed into other territory. It's in the fucking game because it was in the mod as a left over part of ARMA2 known as Easy mode that the community flocked to because it was just that, EASY, not because Dean, or Marek, want it in, capiche? Using the drone General comparison is just illustrating the ridiculousness of formulating a strategy based on what you see over a wall with your invisible drone camera. ^There is nothing immersive about this unless your character does a chin up, or otherwise physically moves his line of sight into where you are trying to look (around a corner, off a rooftop camp position). The ability to peek around corners, over walls, and from rooftops, completely alters how you move through and engage with the environment, and is after all in essence a "third persons perspective", isn't it? I understand people are afraid that they will get their security blanket taken away but have no fear, 3PP is so well ingrained in this player base that it will never go away entirely, and may not even see much more adjustments. I personally don't care if they never try to "fix" the problems with 3PP as I will likely avoid it altogether when I can. So yeah, enjoy your conceptually flawed (in multiple ways) perspective, and have a nice day. -
The work (or lack thereof) on the infected is a touchy subject for me. You and I both are Zombie Hunters I think, and find them to be a big part of the game that has been missing (for the most part) for a VERY VERY long time. We all know any zombie game worth it's salt usually has more zombies than any sane person would want to handle. The balance between gear and supplies and the amount of gear and supplies needed to stay healthy while fighting infected is something that will come in time but is a mostly ignored aspect by the player base because it is basically non-existent in the SA. Having discussed the ideas behind DayZ for nearly 4 solid years now, seeing Enfusion in action is a bit surreal and makes the mind reel with the possibilities! With a taste of the new infected models thrown in I am beginning to be able to envision these fiends roaming everywhere near and far, and I dream of clear cutting my path through them (while artfully dodging), to glory! BRING ON THE HORDE, *please

Is it Possible for 3PP to NOT be Overpowered?

If you understand that 3PP is ARMA2 Easy mode you can begin to see why I find 3PP offensive as part of Vanilla DayZ. You must have also read the status reports where the devs have come out imploring EVERYONE to play 1PP, right? You're in essence defending easy mode.... in DayZ.... and I don't want the quality of this great title to suffer based on how comfy you are with 3PP. Whether you like it or not, you are playing GearZ of DayZ. 3PP makes the firefight strategies that of a cover shooter, whether you stay in 1PP for firefights or not (sounds like you alternate really), now you are just playing the "who flinches first" game until someone gets tired of waiting and rushes a position or somehow exposes themselves. Rushing a wall, not knowing where a person might be is certainly more realistic. I don't see your point on that one. Because you get more chances to play invisible drone General to your toy soldier? Your idea of fun here seems quite outside what I understand would be a vanilla DayZ experience. How would you ever formulate that strategy of yours without the inclusion of 3pp?? From what I can tell the devs begrudgingly accept 3PP almost solely on popular demand and would almost certainly do away with it if they thought they could without massive backlash. I am passionate about this game and the direction it takes, which sometimes might cause my speech to be more.... acerbic. There is no personal gripe against you but against the ideas that the 3PP proponents use to justify what is almost certainly the most broken aspect of DayZ, and always will be. *I was thinking earlier that they should make infected agro on people if they wall peak too close to them, like you hopped up to peak over the wall and the infected saw you. Especially now that infected scale walls. I would love to see a video of a guy switch to 3PP with an infected just on the other side of a wall only to have the infected immediately hop over and fuck him up. -
Enfusion happened. It will likely stay this way until .61 for the most part. *HEADS UP KOS/ASSHATS - Lots of infected coming to .61! You'll want to stay on .60 stable when it hits because it is probably the last patch of DayCoDZ where you can just PvP without a care for the infected. When .61 hits stable I imagine A LOT of tears.

Is it Possible for 3PP to NOT be Overpowered?

Yipes well, character model fetish and having drone view of the map for aesthetic purposes hardly sounds like core DayZ gameplay elements to me. I enjoy seeing my friends character models just fine. And that's for a cumulative 5 minutes for every 5 hours I play. Hopefully aspects of the 1PP view can be improved but to argue that 3PP is more immersive is by definition a flawed argument as you cannot astral project your eye line above your head in reality. Please don't argue the limited peripheral qualities of 1PP either as not immersive; A: VR is coming and I will probably only play DayZ in VR when that option is available. B: When the whole server is in 1PP it makes you adapt at how you look at the map. It's more constrained and oppressive, you know, like a survival horror game! If you strafe side to side as you move, and wait peeking around things, or god forbid climb up somewhere to get a high vantage point, rather than hide behind a wall and send up your drone you might learn to enjoy the IMMERSION that is staying inside your own head. Either way, there will be versions of DayZ for us both, mine will just be a more pure survival horror experience while from my perspective, 3PP is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME. RTS + Gears of War anybody? -
I played for 9-10 hours today with Dudester, IMT, GaryWalnuts, GirthBrooks, and Emuthreat. There were many server crashes throughout. Some game sessions lasted about 15 minutes while others lasted for hours. We played mostly together but at times got split up due to circumstances. Item swapping is far improved AND items are going to the slot you put them in again!! Dudester found a shirt that if he removed it and put it back on while you watched, your game crashed. I think IMT has video. 3 of us crashed while watching him take it on and off. It started when his torso appeared transparent and he tried to take his shirt on and off to fix the bug. The 3rd person to try the magic shirt was Gary, who even put a sack over his head so as not to witness the awesome power of the shirt but this was not enough to escape the awesome client crashing abilities of the magic shirt. I finally saw the new military base and it's pretty massive with a lot of interesting new features. While looting barracks there Brooks came around the back of one to unintentionally get the drop on this guy who was scoping in on Gary with a Winchester. I think someone checked his pulse but I don't recall the name.... At one point I suggested we check out the infected population in Berezino, fully understanding that players would likely be about as well. Emu split up from IMT and myself and ended up clipping off a balcony due to standing near and infected corpse. After killing a couple infected IMT and I spotted some players and ducked into an orange house with the 2 entrances. I am personally convinced he saw us as he came almost directly to the house we were in. We held our guns on opposite doors not knowing which he would come through or if he had a friend. When he came through the door IMT was guarding he must have saw me first as he opened up with an MP5 right into my back. IMT then shot him with the SKS as I wheeled around trying not to spray wildly with my AK. As I spun and leveled on him, I saw 2 blood streams and he crumbled in the opposite corner. I went unconscious and IMT bandaged I did not get a pic of his body or check his pulse before the server reset. Now we did not want to spawn in with the chance this guy or a friend of his was waiting for our helpless bodies to appear so we took a break. I logged back in first and decided to try to make it north to the woods to heal. As I was heading north a fresh spawn started following me and began taunting me to kill him. He followed me for a minute and I warned him to leave, he still persisted so I turned around and shot him a couple times with the AK but tried to keep my distance as I was very low on blood. Shooting him either killed him or deterred him somehow and I was finally able to find a spot to heal for a few minutes while IMT logged back in. He basically insisted on trying to loot for a saline bag in Berezino and ended up having just missed another random guy while making it out with a saline bag but no IV.... Finally, I get directions to a pond from Emuthreat where I can cool down and heal and stay there for a good twenty minutes slowly getting my color back. (It actually took me over an hour to heal in total.) Out of all of us, I think Dudester is the only one of us to die to KoS today, and multiple times. He had some terrible luck with people who just pop him with a head shot randomly when we weren't around. I'm glad to have survived the KoS'rs for such a long session but I look forward to surviving versus infected much more. I get burnt out when experimental devolves into full CoD/KoS stable grab ass party. ^This is certainly not what I came to DayZ for. Here are some pics from the days sessions.

The servers I am playing on are not staying up for long right now. Sessions seem to be 20-30 minutes before the server crashes.

HEY GUYZ

Had no luck getting on during prime time. Some 1PP servers went belly up as I was trying to join and then they died all together. Hopefully I'll get on tomorrow.

^Yes indeed, I would like random roamer infected to show up just about anywhere.

The new player controller will change everything. New modules man! New modules for EVERYTHING!
