  1. AK - [x] MP5 - [x] Can opener - [ ] :( AFAIK in the status report Hicks said wipe of camps and persistence only, not characters. I guess it's possible but wasn't what I took from the above statement. Edit to say: "Hive wide" could include characters....

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

Popularity does not a great game make. WoW, Starcraft? Gouge my eyes out. If that were true, Katy Perry and Kid Rock would be great music. No need to belittle Smash players of all ages and skill levels to make your point. If you don't appreciate the unique hit detection, environmental interaction, and minute defensive play that takes place in 1v1 no items Smash, you're missing out. Edit: I am not a wrestling fan but a friend turned me on to the old AKI and Spike JPN Wrestling games which I know are WAY more fun and dynamic than SF. Unfortunately the genre was still born in the states with the Def Jam games that followed WWF vs Raw's success. Certain types of popularity ruin great things. Like Monkeyball. That's why DayZ will never be left to the tender mercies of the FPS crowd no matter what.

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

Well, thank you. I appreciate a good discussion/debate with informed individuals myself. You seemed to over simplify a lot of what I said to make half a point, without considering mine a bit further. When I spoke of health, medical, and weight and stamina, I wasn't referring to the base mechanics as innovative but the depth at which they will be pursued. Of course weight has been done in games.... but not at the depth that DayZ will attempt. The way I understand it, there will be a wide range of movement speeds dependent on gear not just, "you're too heavy to run". Take that range of player mobility and balance it against a different in-depth stamina system which will be in place for the infected and you have a very dynamic and innovative level of authenticity. Right? Health and medical? Authentic disease transference from the environment, objects, other players, and the infected, is a level depth/authenticity that I am unaware having been attempted prior. Right? (Please don't try to tell me about Cholera blankets in Oregon Trail.... I'm probably older than you.) And if you think Smash is for "carebears" then you have 0 idea about innovative gameplay. SF is positively robotic in nature by comparison. Memorizing unbreakable combos doesn't take much skill IMO. I've probably lost more save data historically than you'll be able to create in the next decade. I made it clear that I don't care for FPS games prior and unless you have also been playing games for 30+ years there is no chance that you have played as many "great games" as I have. If you think military sim or FPS's constitute an innovative game experience at all then we'll never agree on games. My above statement clarified what I meant regarding weight and stamina. Neither you nor scriptfactory have offered an example where all of those factors I mentioned are being implemented on this scale, you just wanted an opportunity to shoot me down.... the difference is that scriptfactory was constructive where you were mostly being a prick.

For starters, I would argue that the advanced health, and medical systems planned are quite innovative. Weight + stamina + NPC stamina is some pretty innovative mechanics as well. As far as balance is concerned, we can discuss DayZ balance better during Beta, of course. I am an old school SF fan but prefer the flexibility of Smash Bros; a game that, when played with items on, gives a noob a chance against a master. I very rarely become fanatical for any media but when I do it's usually because that band, author, MMA fighter, director, or video game shows me something special, something I haven't seen before in all the time I've followed the medium. DayZ is admittedly far from complete and seems to have bugs from every conceivable angle while trying to accomplish things never attempted in game dev. "You dawg, I heard you like to write hotfix code so I put BugZ in your BugZ so you can code while you code." I might have a touch of ignorant faith in this dev team and maybe it's the New Yorker in me that really loves the multinational aspect of the team; I like to imagine these people were chosen carefully and have diverse talents. I mean, even in it's sometimes less than charmingly broken state, "we" love DayZ or the "promise of DayZ" to come. TL;DR I liek gamez.

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

Tha'st a lot of point, shoot, die, rinse, repeat. I'll never understand how people can play FPS's so much. Last time I played a popular FPS I played Crysis and lost interest before clearing it. I came to DayZ because it transcended genres and was everything those games weren't. Since Doom the FPS games have proven themselves to be the least creative or challenging games to play and almost nothing truly new or innovative has come out of the genre in a very long time (unless you count that the genre pushes graphical quality, which is technical not creative).

    so much for the struggle

This wait and current build deserve an "old school" music tie in post..... (We're skipping experimental altogether. Part of me thinks this is possibru.) I imagine the struggle in DayZ to be as brutal as this song and all the names of the people who contributed and left will be carved upon the..... http://youtu.be/JGD_O016yWg

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

Smash Bros. Monkeyball 1&2 (special acknowledgement for F-Zero GX which uses SMB2 engine). Resident Evil 4. Daigasso Band Brothers 1&2 + expansions. DayZ. In 30+ years of gaming since ATARI 2600, the above list has the most hours of my gaming time combined.
  10. What you're trying to do is extremely difficult and it is interesting to see how you've tried to iron out all the possible problems with catch and release. I am very opposed to KoS style play and I can plainly see you neither KoS nor grief. Good luck.... you're going to need it!
  11. As 0.55 wears thin for my friend ColdAtrophy and I we decided to try to strip a lootsplosion to test some of our theories about the current bugged loot distribution. We found a 'sploded military jail building, stashed our backpacks, locked the door, and set about pulling all of the loot away from the spawn points and stacking empty backpacks separately. The whole time we planned this operation we were constantly reminding each other of the level of exposure the location presented, even though there was only 1 other player on the server. After less than 30 minutes passed I thought I heard some sounds and quickly realized a zombie had aggro'd to the door and was making an unusual amount of racket. I also felt fairly certain that our recent movements should not have drawn aggro and I immediately was on guard for the possibility of another player incoming. We apprehensively raised our weapons and came around the corner from the first floor back hallway to find a female zombie that looked trapped in the door, flailing, and squirting blood from all angles. The spectacle was comical to say the least and my friend said something about the infected fighting each other and for a moment I thought this might be the case. All of the sudden, the door flies open and in that same moment, ColdAtrophy cut the infected down with a couple rounds from the AKM. As all of this is happening it registers briefly that there is another figure standing swinging a pickaxe who; A: Never checked a building obviously locked for inhabitants. B: Never hailed us either in direct chat or text if he had seen us. C: Was 25 feet away swinging a melee weapon and never once shown anything but aggressive actions. All of the factors above made for a quick decision to level my AK101 on him and cut him down nearly the same instant as ColdAtrophy directly following the demise of the infected. I can safely speak for myself and ColdAtrophy when I say that we are completely opposed to KoS and if are approached in a neutral, non-threatening fashion, we are much more likely to help than hurt a player. After this encounter "The Freeman" immediately rejoined, maybe hoping for some kind of imagined revenge. We had the usual post murder "why's?!", and left the area with an idea to return and finish our lootsplosion experiment a little later. When we returned to the jail we finished stripping the site in short order and almost immediately saw loot respawning. Then the server froze while we were in a building by the jail and when we returned to the jail we found nearly all of the non-persistent loot had actually been cleaned up and new loot was in the previously clear areas. Below are some pictures post clean-up. At a barracks we have also removed the firearms completely from the building and will likely check to see how that performs later tonight. P.S: "The Freeman", if you had no idea we were there, I'm sorry for killing you. It would behoove you to check a locked building before chopping at it's door. If you knew we were there, you have enormous brass balls or are out and out suicidal and I'm therefor, "sorry, not sorry".

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

Firstly, I do not agree that lone wolf is one of the most popular play styles as I believe A LOT of players burn out playing alone pretty fast. Things are changing and we are seeing a bit less of the PVPer's but they are probably some kind of majority (which you basically said). Personally, for the record, anybody who practices KoS is NOT a survivor but are a murderer. I'm looking forward to a day when Bandits are thieves who rob people with guns, Survivors are neutral players, and Murderers are just that, Murderers. ^^The language we use is very important to the discussions about DayZ and the terms coined by the PvP/KoS community do not line up with the DayZ 1.0 Vanilla game we will have 2 years from now. Back closer to OP.... I've played almost exclusively lone wolf since July '12 in the mod and now that I've played with a friend consistently for a few weeks I can say that surviving with a friend is easier and certainly enhances your ability to complete most DayZ long term goals (camp building and soon, vehicle building). This is by design, and will become more and more apparent as the game develops. The new medical systems and vehicle systems alone will greatly benefit group play for instance.

cool little device i thought we could use in dayz

It's cool BUT, too close to homage to the 3rd Reich no matter how you try to rebrand it, IMO. It's not an iconic Nazi symbol to most average people but would be gravitated to as such by those who have an interest in the game. I don't want SS reminiscent uniforms as suggested by others either.... If they did add such things I would KoS those who use them and I'm 140% against KoS.

Making The CR-527 A More Viable Rifle

All weapons that require magazines will have a chance to spawn with an empty or loaded magazine in the future. Below is the tweet from 3 days ago RE: the scope changes forthcoming. Stuff like this often pops up on the dev tracker.
  15. I often "sing" the Benny Hill theme while zombies chase myself or my friends.

    so much for the struggle

If you took it personally, you automatically validated my point. And you, managed to miss completely or misconstrue EVERY point I made. More proof that reading comprehension is a lost skill. <--- See, that's far more personal but 1,000% true.

    so much for the struggle

You keep drumming the same points and saying the same catch phrases in every thread on this topic. You want to defend DM players while devaluing the people you see as so called "elitists". Some of us have been involved in the grand discussion that is DayZ for most of 3 years and have helped to guide and expand upon the ideas that Dean Hall first implemented in the mod. This means that we have a long history of discussing the mechanics of the game that OUR funding launched. An open world, unscripted, survival horror game with PvP elements. If not wanting an instant gratification DM game makes me an elitist, than so be it. If not wanting to have to play with kids who want Call of DayZ and have no interest in investing in their perma death characters makes me an elitist, than so be it. There are people who want DayZ, and people who will have to wait for modding to get the abominations they desire. Advocating KoS for any reason is pointless and you're only doing it for your own conscience.

where can i find the most pvp?

^This. If the only thing you desire is quality PvP than DayZ Alpha is not a smart place to find it. If you want "PvP with a DayZ skin" then when modding hits 20 months from now, you'll get your wish.
  19. ☣BioHaze☣

    Instanced Zombie Horde

^Yup. I hope hordes will be "organic" in how they form. Maybe in some cases a whole "horde worth" of infected will spawn very near each other but would still require some player interaction to truly draw them together. They way I imagine it working, you would accidentally or intentionally form a horde by bringing together many aggro'd infected that then share a sort of "hive mind" in how they move and act.

    Cold / damp / soaked / wet - Bug?

Stripping your clothes off in the cold without a fire is not a good idea. The wet status you were experiencing might have been a bug but since I did not see everything that happened I cannot be sure. When it come to being cold/wet in DayZ fire will always help and if you're only damp and not too cold, running can warm you up as well. All experiences in DayZ are always subject to glitches and you should be prepared for small problems with the design and big problems that can even prevent you from playing from time to time.
  23. I love the scarcity personally, though I know it's a bit extreme. I'm sad to hear that the mad dash to the log cabins and the military bases is on again and the rinse and repeat kids will probably be back at it on the coast but it's only for a few weeks while we work out the kinks in experimental (I hope).

I believe it means that loot will once again spawn in the same places as 0.54 until they iron out more bugs via experimental branch. It sounds like it will only last another few weeks so you all that wanted it back so bad.... enjoy for now!! Thanks for all the hard work, devs! I'll be ready to give the next experimental a go to help move the loot system along and try new stuff!

    Sandbags (goes with base building)

Was in the mod, will likely be given unto SA. People made enormous camps with sandbags and entrenching tools and tents. They would box in vehicles with sandbags to prevent people without entrenching tools from driving them away while AFK.
