This basic level of in game capability should have been worked on from Day 0. Same with throwing of items, in my opinion. DayZ EA may have suffered from lack of hindsight in some ways (being one of the pioneers of EA), and maybe the way the engine was built could be part of the problem too... why was throwing stuff so low on the list of implementation? Did it end up being more complicated or was there purely no time, or both? Building the engine was a protracted process to say the least but after it was released was it just so jam packed with bugs you had to strip it down and build it again over 6 months? Oh man.... I'm sorry. you needed the fourth rag @RaptorM60 - I appreciate you addressing and engaging some of the concerns voiced here. This is the most anyone officially related to Bohemia has engaged the forum since before @rocket left.

I forgot to add "aim spaces", to the things discussed as features for production which were never heard of again. We were told that drive by shooting would be possible in the future. The infected were originally supposed to be spawned globally at server start and be server controlled. Instead we played for many many months with ridiculously low infected on the map to the degree that the PvP guys would joke about dayz being a zombie game at all. Only later to be told that dynamic infected spawn would have to be implemented causing all of the same problems that dynamic spawning caused in the mod. Why did that take so many months to figure out? Why does dynamic infected spawning seem so poorly implemented in general?

Two suggestions for Dayz. from an old OLD player.

Item rotation has been discussed and was said to be something they wanted to add. Clothing (as you know), already has a "worn" model, and once an item is worn, it cannot be brought back to pristine. So that pretty much has the same effect....

The 1.0 label isn't for us. The numbers have essentially always been arbitrary, I know that. A rose (or corpse flower) by any other name is still a rose (corpse flower). If I call 1.0, ".75", it will make me feel better. It's more about general public perception of "completion" and perception of investors and execs. But that doesn't change the verbal song and dance that has been the status reports. I've been telling people to, "Just wait and see, DayZ is almost ready for prime time. Everyone will be talking about it, it's going to be incredible. I'll let you know when to join the game, when it's really ready to wow you." I bought my younger brother a copy ON RELEASE DAY with the idea that he should never touch it until I say it's ready. Nearly 5 years later, and he's never once installed it. My roommate from 3 years ago (a programmer) bought the ALPHA and we played LAN party style a few times, here in my apartment. This was an early build when the M4 was everywhere.... He hasn't touched the game since putting in a few hours alongside me and merely waits for me to tell him when it's ready. What percentage of DayZ copies sit idle? That's probably a pretty easy number to figure out. I've been labelled a fanboy and white knight for years but I always voice my concerns when I feel they are justified. I'm not even sure BI understands what the 7 month patch drought did to the outlook and resolve of the dedicated testers and then you; set another unattainable date, hit another big snag, and then once again, announce that features are pulled and leave some vagueness as to what's included with the prospective 1.0. ^This could only have a huge negative impact on the mindset of longtime supporters. If they could not foresee this outcome, it may be further evidence of the disconnect between the testers and the devs.

whoooo, doggy! I've contributed thousands of lines of polite questions, suggestions, and feedback, patch by patch. I've even thought I've seen a few things I've suggested being implemented in game after I recommended them. But I've never once received feedback in return. "Thanks, that's a good suggestion. We'll see about implementing this in future builds." Nothing. A recent example, in the past year or so, I stressed the need to conceal infected spawning from players view (after being swarmed at Myshkino base by a small army of infected that were 100% not there when I arrived), adding that infected spawn points inside buildings are something we all like for surprise and variation. Lo and behold, the number of infected spawning in buildings has risen since that post but I never received feedback that my suggestion was useful or implemented. A lot of dev teams would be front and center encouraging and responding to suggestions on a regular basis. ^Last night. 5 in one building in Elektro. I've asked countless POLITE questions for matters that are relevant to many here that test and can probably count the amount of replies I've had on one hand. Most recently I've asked Baty and ImpulZ when we might see nails, sheet metal, and hammers in online mode, so we can test them, and my questions were met with silence. My first post in this thread was largely ignored and there was nothing impolite about how it was worded. Flustered, confused, and down trodden, should be how it's all read. Desperate for answers as to where all this past work will actually be seen in game. Desperate to hear if those features I listed will ever make it into the game....

    Status Report - 23 October 2018

Just read the Steam reviews, it's all there. They say there will be support for DayZ for at least 5 years after 1.0, but it's going to take at least another year after 1.0 to approach parity with .62. DayZ is the only game I care to carry a gun in, and now there's only 8 to choose from? They have 9 or so weeks to clean up what we have now, plus maybe add a bit more. If historical trends persist, this is not likely achievable. All the stuff we were shown, I thought was merely waiting to be merged in. Instead it's vapor content, abandonflavor. "We'll be extensively supporting a wide variety of play styles. If you want to be a mountain man and live off the grid, you'll have outfits, improvised shelters, improvised weapons, hunting and fishing, and many ways to not rely on looting the towns and cities to sustain yourself." - wasn't that part of the message not long ago?

I feel like the middle 2 sections of this list are basically padding. Calling them not available in legacy versions is sort of a loose definition of the term. "New implementation of vehicles"? So all of the data from the first sets of implementations apparently did little to speed the development of these current Lada's. The first iterations of the vehicles performed very similarly (slipping, unable to drive in higher gear ratios), and we're right back to square one. Is modding support really a "game play" feature? It's a feature of the engine but I only get the end result as a player and it's not something that impacts Vanilla 1.0, is it? So DayZ fell victim of some form of mission creep? Shouldn't throwing items and vaulting been worked on from the very beginning? This report seems to have left many of us with more questions than answers.

    DayZ and its future

I've been worried ever since I saw the design of the new UI It looked way too console style or something. Unfortunately, I believe there is no chance they will take back any of what they said and they will insist on calling the most recent concept 1.0. Post 1.0 content and modding is all I have left to hope for. Parity with .62? What a joke. Would we have been better off trying to finish this thing with the old engine? Who knows... Somehow this project was mishandled in many ways. Have they had a lot of turn over by hiring interns, or cheaper employees with less expertise? Could they have hired a smaller team with better expertise to stick out the whole process? Did DayZ dollars get funneled into ARMA, Ylands, Vigor? How much funding/resources were wasted on models that may not be used? They are going to slap the 1.0 label on whatever the best working build is on 1/1/19, and that seems final.

No, I said that this was stated in the Xbox forum. Then I extrapolated on the idea in case it were true. I was hoping someone would clear it up for me. It's all good. I'm here to test. As always.

The XBone people were saying how that once a game is in preview with M$, it has to go 1.0 within a year or M$ owns the game. Couple that with the announcement for 1.0 before years end and they fully painted themselves into a corner. Now, if they can release something comparable to a Fortnight version and call it 1.0, they can try to convince anyone who asks that 1.0 is a complete game thereby they can say they kept their promise to us and save the game from the clutches of M$. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also, seeing Bratislav tests and internal tests on the DB, fingers crossed for a patch today.

Yeah, I wanted someone to RP the cannabis cannibal and make purple people stew, but I guess that won't happen. I also wanted Hendrix to play every time I ate shrooms. Anyway, who wants to live in a world without coffee? That will drive anybody to KoS.

Thanks devs, all! I look forward to testing the upcoming patches. It has been very difficult being a long time fan and supporter of DayZ for all of these years, and lately it has not gotten any easier. I too am a bit disappointed but I 100% knew that after all of the delays with game breaking bugs we had over just the last couple of months that you lost crucial dev time and would further scale back the definition of 1.0. Having announced that you found some bad code that was holding you back further rocked my confidence and has made me wonder how much poorly coded stuff has been gone over throughout this process, resulting in double or triple the work generally needed to complete a task. In my opinion, a respectable 1.0 will probably come closer to what 1.5 will look like. I wish I didn't have sucha good memory..... World containers? - big waste of time huh? No throwing of items? - wowzers Contaminated zones, with hazmat suit, hazmat shower? - waste of time as well? Minicar? Crafting stations??? - nothing? Tazer? Explosives? How can I have an apocalypse without Molotov cocktails? Remember that video of driving through the cafe and all the physics trashing the outdoor furniture? Diseases, infections, getting infections from zombie strikes? Bayonets are out? I too do not care as much for base building as many of the smaller features.... As much as I love BI and DayZ as a concept, much of my faith falls with modders now. C'est la vie, c'est la guerre.

    Xbox Update 24/10/2018

Nooooooo-body cares. They got your moooooooney. Money that is funneled more towards my PC version. It's like you're in a submission move and you're about to tap out! Do you have any idea how many people have left DayZ behind before you even knew it existed? You all expected the game to go from the state it was released in to finished how fast? Yet, you didn't think past examples of DayZ dev would be an indication of the future? Whenever development is not going to your liking..... NEWS FLASH - take a break from the game! Come back when there is a patch with the fixes you desire. XBone has other games, right?

    Xbox Update 24/10/2018

Base building is not available to test in the online version of the stress test. There are no nails (or hammers for that matter) in the current stress test unless you play offline mode and spawn them in yourself. Believe me, I've looked.

Who Are Best DayZ PvP Players ?

Myself and the people I play with are from very distant parts of the globe. We tend to play on servers in every region in any given day. It is entirely possible that you were not playing against any Swedish players at all. I think the people who are dedicated FPS players have a distinct advantage in a conventional firefight for obvious reasons. Thankfully, DayZ has and will have ways to make things less erm, conventional.

    Coast killing squads

In the mod days, when 50 cal guns were in, with infrared no less, many high pop servers had people camping the hills above the spawn points. It was fairly common to be sniped within the first minute of spawning in . If you didn't belly crawl from the beach to the treeline, you probably were getting sniped.

    Just an idea...

Watches were in the mod and could be used in lieu of a compass to find the orientation of the sun based on time of day. I do not know if they plan to bring them back.
