    Yeeeep. But people will always come into DayZ without READING about it first and assume that the generic undead zombie is what DayZ has and that is why I use the term infected often alongside the term zombie to try to draw some distinction while we have the "grand conversation that is DayZ dev".

    How can I find servers that aren't fully looted?

    If people put 1% of the time they spend playing DayZ Alpha into reading about it's development this forum would have so many less repeat threads. Whenever you think something isn't quite right with DayZ Alpha consider a break and wait for the next patch. 19 months to go people! We will likely have a wipe and patch early this coming week.

    Hunting Scope Replacing The Long Range Scope?

    Some suggestions about upcoming mushroom foraging.

    I would guess shrooms are being added because they have that chance to be dangerous OR beneficial which fits the DayZ mold (no pun) quite well. Remember, game.^ Mushrooms are notorious in this way as laid out in the above posts. I'm an armchair survivalist so to speak and have only done 1 solo self sustained cycle tour where I used some of my survivalist knowledge. Mushrooms are often one of the last things you hear any of the popular survivalists focusing on and are viewed as supplemental at best. In our context for DayZ they can be food, poison, or possibly intoxicant (psychedelic) as well. Personally, a Psilocybin trip, during the apocalypse, does not sound particularly appealing. EDit: Deathlove recommended cattail stalks, which I thought made sense. Lots of starch. Some pulp found under the bark of certain trees (birch?) is edible. Why can't we feel for clams in the harbor/shores with bare feet? Pine needle tea is a thing, has vitamins. Seaweeds can be edible. Also, we need to switch berry colors... I ate blueberries my whole life and was told to avoid those same red berries we eat now, the ones with the spiky leaves.... no good. Maybe birds nests and bee hives will be a thing. If I kill a bear, I hope I can craft a bear tooth necklace for bragging rights... I think I'm getting ahead of myself....

    The noises you are talking about are an ancient bug and making this thread does nothing. If you really cared you would have gone into the bug tracker and upvoted the ancient issue that's been mentioned a thousand times. Hmmm, I think I'll start a thread about how boots clip through pants. :facepalm: Edit: I fucking HATE "FIX IT" threads. They are one of the lowest forms of DayZ threads known. If a bug bothers you enough either work around it or take a break. P.S.: Entitlement is not endearing. Edit 2, the return of the edt: All the audio is placeholder, new people. In fact I WANT ALL THE AUDIO CHANGED NOW. I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THE SAME FUCKING ENVIRONMENTAL LOOPS SINCE THE MOD. 3 FUCKING YEARS OF THAT SAME FUCKING BIRD AND THE SOUND OF A CHAIN LINK FENCE BEING KNOCKED INTO EVEN WHEN THERE ISN'T A FENCE AROUND!     Crafting sights onto some rifles for that must have scope/rifle combination will be implemented in the crafting stations at some point. Magnum should take handgun scope at some point I hope.

  10. I think I know what you are saying here. 50% more is possible, eventually. DayZ popularity will likely grow as major features are implemented. I believe DayZ sees waves of interest even now and those waves will grow in size as time goes on.

  13. Beizs gave good info above.... Always keep in mind that there are many more months left of development as well. Unfortunately, performance issues will come and go throughout the process, especially early on. (Currently, some of the first iterations of new tech are causing massive performance issues and have caused them to stagger the update cycle to preserve some performance/playability for the stable branch.) And definitely keep reading. Status reports and the dev section of the forum have some great info and if you really want some "cutting edge" info try following the official Stable and Experimental threads. Worst case scenario, when something about the current state of DayZ troubles you, try taking a break, and playing something else until a new update maybe addresses the issue (as you are doing now). Also... why do you think DayZ "sold out"? Steam can certainly sell, upload, and host, many more clients.

    And then the rest of your post is about easiest/safest rinse and repeat gameplay geared towards PvP which the OP has little interest in. He doesn't want a typical FPS experience with a broken DayZ skin. I took the above snip as a direct jab at the current early iteration of the CLE (that is far from complete) which I'm free to reference just about anywhere in the general discussion section I would think. I don't argue just to argue here, man. Though I will vehemently debate what I understand as fact.

    You missed my point and you neglect the obvious facts. Not surprising. I never said the CLE was complete... why are you making stuff up? Once the CLE is working as intended, YES some places will have higher spawn probability for item types but those items will still have a chance to spawn COMPLETELY RANDOMLY in other places. Hicks - "...that M4 in a barn..." After an iteration of the CLE is launched that works properly, all areas you think of as hotspots will be picked clean first forcing loot OF ALL KINDS to spawn more plentifully in unlooted areas like secluded rural areas and lesser touched small military spawns. I doubt mod style DM at the Stary tents will be common come 1.0. Can you imagine how the game might play once feature complete and polished or do you imagine the mod or something? Edit: Avoiding hotspots is a BIG way the long term survivors actually SURVIVE. Super careful risk/reward based looting will be rewarded over the long term when you find military goodies in those odd places.

    What is it that drives you to play DayZ a lot?

    When they premiered new infected AI and doubled the infected on the map I went from playing 1-3 hours a day to 6-10 hours a day, so I guess the short answer is, killing zombies. Otherwise, I am fascinated with the development process and will play the experimental builds to try new features and content. When persistence and base building work well, I will also play more to maintain a camp/base. I really like a good scary zombie shooting challenge like Resident Evil 4 mixed with an apocalyptic survival experience... I try to imagine so much of the empty places we see now crawling with infected!

    What magical Alphas can you use as a good example of "almost" finished, while still being Alpha? This concept is contradictory at it's core. When it comes to DayZ THERE IS NO PRIOR STANDARD. I would have loved if the engine/renderer would have come first as with all other games but this cobble together approach, on top of obsolete tech, to then swap in modern tech approach has never been attempted as far as I know, certainly not on this scale. If you have the depth to draw all these factors to bear on your thoughts RE: DayZ dev, you might not take the same stance you take now. Also, just because a majority of people hold something to be true does not make it so. If that were the case, the Sun would orbit us and heavier objects would fall faster.     This, is funny. Doesn't sound like you want to play a game that includes the CLE. I found a P-1 in a railroad shed and a Trumpet in a utility shed in experimental. The way it should be. OP - Always know that some griefer troll like Grimey Rick is probably watching you, thinking it actually takes skill to shoot someone who can't see them. If a smart person wants a firefight that includes real competition, they don't play DayZ to get it. If you don't KoS=grief=troll play and try to make contact you will have the entire range of experiences rather than a single mostly repetitive experience like Rick does.

Apparently A LOT of you "TESTERS" who have been here since the mod can't be bothered to READ about the games development. This can make you MORE ignorant than people who just started playing.

    Man, that's a super shitty story and I don't blame you for losing some faith there. After a KoS encounter I usually go back out and make an initial effort to find a friendly/neutral player to try to actively resist the dark side of the force. It's really difficult to try to play this game as a neutral character with the current loot tables and player habits but I think I have only killed 3 players since the release of the SA, all of which gave me no choice. I definitely think the CLE will (when working properly) level the loot chances for the hard earned, well traveled player, and hurt the asshole hoppers and people who can't loot without a preset spawn pattern to run over. Just try not to prejudge based on load out. My friend and I roll full military gear when we can and that's just for zombie purposes and protection/the best chance against KoS players.

    Which is part of the reason we have open alpha as a nod to that. Still, of the untold multitudes of DayZ inspired mods/games and shameless DayZ clones that every studio is trying to churn out, none capture the imagination or create the immersion of DayZ. ^This is thanks to all the hard work that took place on the SA by pro devs and not the scripter community. I do believe there is a fair chance that DayZ 1.0 will not make the target release date but I do not think that is any kind of deal breaker for people like me who have dreamed of the SA since summer 2012. Not unless it were delayed over a year and with crippling bugs would I really begin to loose faith. It's just WAY too early to tell how any of this will play out over the next 19 months. Your doubts are based on somewhat unrealistic conjecture when you take all the factors into account.

    "Fell for it?" - Troll much? Thanks for the business lesson but if you read what I wrote I outlined the management of the project from Day1 mod to today to point out it's unique challenges and mega ambitious nature of the project. I'm also still waiting for you or "the community" to produce anything anywhere near as lush, immersive, detailed, and authentic for this genre.

Daigasso? Chan Wook Park? You know why? I've been playing games since Atari 2600 and I'VE FUCKING SEEN AND PLAYED IT ALL! (Yeah we're allowed to curse here.) Framerate? lolololololol If you and "the community" you speak for so well don't play the game anymore and don't READ about the game, you have absolutely no place in the discussion about the game. Ignorance is not a license to be a hyper critical ass, no more than being a fanboy is reason to merely insult you and not make a point. I've followed THE NEWS AND DEVS on the development of this game since the beginning and played the mod about as much as you. Old tech > old game > massively flexible > massively vulnerable > near obsolescence > parts of old game > old map > placeholder everything > madhatter says, "change places!" > something never seen or tried before on this scale > open Alpha > tears > profit Let me know when you and "the community" come up with a game that's as fucking amazing, beautiful, and heart pounding, and offers massive potential, THANKS!

    And a lot of people don't. OP you should feel guilty if you have any developed sense of immersion or morality to project upon your character. Maybe they were a neutral player who spent many hours scouring the map for his gear? I don't fire unless fired upon or being advanced upon by a player who just runs at me with a melee weapon and doesn't talk. It is MUCH MUCH more of a challenge to try to confirm friendly or rob someone without killing them than it is to shoot at someone who doesn't see you. Anyway, so much of how people are playing DayZ in general is going to change drastically in the next 2 years of continued development that it really makes what we are playing here "not DayZ" and as such is being skewed towards certain play styles. KoS will not go away but it will become far less common mark my words. < This is not a "carebear" statement if you know the changes that are coming to DayZ.
