Everything I said was based on your post here that I quoted and the fact that you've contributed a whopping 42 posts in all that time and the few other posts I've read from you have been far from constructive. I knew you would mention the xmas trees...The Christmas trees were a far cry from outfits or items and looked like fairly simple decoration that didn't require much in the way of resources. When people ask me about the progress that DayZ has made I tell them the truth: "Things are delayed but look very promising for the near future. I do not recommend you buy this game yet unless you have a great interest in broken features that may kill you and nearly unplayable mechanics at times. The current state of the Alpha is so raw that I would say that most people shouldn't even consider joining until Beta. There will come a point in development where I would recommend DayZ and if you like I can let you know when I think that is." This is not personal in any way, it's just fact. I think you need to either read or re-read the status reports, like all of them, and internalize the information within. It's all there, so much more than just a road map, which is a flexible construct at best. I too have been massively frustrated by the perceived lack of progress at times and I took 6 months off from playing because I could find little joy in it. When I came back I found I was more in love with DayZ than ever. Now because I prefer killing infected to killing people I haven't played in about 2 months, and that's ok too.... I'll just be that much more excited for 0.59.

When can we expect gun shots to be heard reliably

When they remove the content warnings. -
A melee soft skill should be tied to fighting infected only. If I killed a 1,000 infected I might get better at it over time.

You're not helping.

Nice job, T! It's been so long since I wrote out one of my experiential posts in the build threads.... Thanks for sharing!

You lack patience and perspective. And you can keep your fucking pumpkins, leprechaun outfits, pilgrim hats, santa hats, and similar holiday easter egg garbage out of my game thank you. There is nothing else like DayZ either on the market currently or historically. You've been involved with DayZ for 3 years and brought nothing to the conversation here other than your tears and your short sighted and ignorant criticisms. Give this game another 6 months and posts like yours will be empty pointless speech, long since forgotten.

Tag & Release - Capturing a heavily armed m4 player with a repeater - Hardcore

Haha. "First time I met you I hoped it would be the other way around." Funny. *Sounded like a young guy (see also squeaker), maybe not a female... -
Even though I agree with a lot of what you said prior, it sounds like all you really want is a level and polished PvP experience which is much more easily found in 1,000 polished FPS games currently available. If all you really care about are the fire fights and player kill count, you'll find way better games with more competition elsewhere. (Try BF4) Eventually scarcity and countless other factors might make Vanilla DayZ unappealing for you. I hope scarce ammo and increased (hordes eventually) and improved infected decimate the PvP only player community and either force them to adapt or just leave en masse. One thing I LOVE is that the revolving door PvP community in DayZ just keeps pumping money into this survival game. The door is definitely going to hit them in the ass on the way out (or into a mod).

Thanks to devs/all for their hard work. I'm glad you are keeping to a higher standard for release candidates but the wait for a patch is absolute torture! Is there a model for infected Rocket yet? Please confirm plans for the M-79 grenade launcher (takes same rounds as M4 launcher I believe). Molotov cocktails? (After renderer?) Empty cans? (so many uses!) What will our options be for cannabis consumption in the game? (papers, pipes, bongs, infused cooking oils/fats for edibles) Herds always face North/South when grazing together unless thrown off by magnetic fields from power lines. Also this: Wild aurochs-like cattle reintroduced in Czech Republic http://bigstory.ap.org/article/25eb1b808274456a8f2ff4be0a8da947/wild-aurochs-cattle-reintroduced-czech-republic And of course, this: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE SA 0.59 Experimental

Dayz: the Road to Beta - PAX Aus Presentation

First person to RP Lady MacBeth wins! -
Too much trouble for little>no perceived gains. The reason the police cars and helis are random is because they have more valuable loot and should require more time and effort to encounter. Civilian wrecks are so common I imagine the time to program this in and fine tune it would far outweigh the benefits. Edit: if every time the server restarted, ALL of those cars moved randomly, I would find that immersion breaking.

It's far too soon for a forensic analysis on the last couple of months of development. You/we don't need to know any of that stuff and honestly you are forming opinions from the outside and are in no position to judge. Many of us who have followed this project from the beginning have a clear memory of every patch and all the insanity that has come, gone, and been forgotten, by countless new guys with a bone to pick who then disappear when their patience runs out or they become total trolls. The flow of the revolving door on this forum is probably directly correlative to the shelf life of a KoS player in the game it seems.... If you have trouble handling how things are now, then you can imagine how it was when there was LESS communication in the past. Maybe, try to take solace in the idea that they are trying to improve the flow of communication based on recent changes.

Couple of ideas, sorry if they have been mentioned already
☣BioHaze☣ replied to MadMcardle's topic in Suggestions
reed or maybe dead tree roots for traps/snares - This is an ok idea and should be expanded to more types of plant material to make improvised rope rather than just using rags. Then we would need to be able to use improvised rope in snares instead of just wire. rockpools with crabs etc for food - I do not see this as something forthcoming but could be proven wrong. Fishing is in already. quick sand or bog - I do not see this as something forthcoming rivers with strong currents - I think we might get moving water for rivers (discussed some time ago) but I do not believe anything large enough to be dangerous is planned. climb/abseil - I would like to see in-depth climbing but I would personally be surprised to see it in 1.0. I recently asked if we would get windows that open/close/or break for entering and exiting buildings and was told it wasn't planned for 1.0 and would likely be left to modding.... -
Failed Heavily Armed Holdup + Recap – 2v2 Far North Skirmish – DayZ Underground

If they had outside comms and the sniper player DIDN'T try to flank wide and snipe from the restaurant or other vantage point, they definitely fail at strategy. I've only been held up once and it was at prison island. Even though I had little of value, and followed his orders, he still executed me. But only after apologizing because I had been so cool...- 1 reply

https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/228209-less-lethal-options-wip-preview/ Pssst. DayZ is a 3+ year old project in many ways. https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/179166-so-many-guns-less-than-lethal-suggestion/ https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212272-non-lethal-ammo-for-shotguns/ https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/167375-add-ltl-rounds/ This is 0.59 of the stand alone version. Go read the road map, and status reports, please. Like ALL of them. (and use the forum search function when you think it's new thread worthy) Now slowly internalize that you are basically playing with the majority of the mechanics left over from DayZ mod and that ALL of the shortcomings you perceive now are almost certainly set to change or be tweaked. Have a nice DayZ.

Does any of this apply at all? "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." - Shigeru Miyamoto http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/psykhophear/lists/delayed-video-games/26503/ If you take the pace and circumstances of DayZ as a project into account I would want to guess that they are probably making standard progress when compared with the historical pace of game dev as a whole. I keep saying that we should look at dev estimates like contractor estimates. Take what they said and add another half to that. It;s just the trend I'm seeing and it helps keep me sane. MAYBE, once the lions share of the new engines are in place we might see some leap frogs in progress that will catch things up a little. Until then, the people with less patience and who are far removed from what's actually happening at BI are going to make all sorts of damning and far flung theories about what's holding things up, and what can be done to fix it. Those of us with patience will be rewarded. Shit, that's DayZ in a nutshell, in'it?

Well, I saw the massive popularity of FPS games as the beginning of the end for big budget creative titles. My friend ColdAtrophy has helped me understand the difference between original Halo's and the worst of the FPS's. Admittedly, it's probably a fair bit better than choosing to CoD....
-
As I explained to ColdAtrophy recently..... to my generation, Halo is the video game equivalent of herpes and was a big part of the beginning of the AAA shit storm we see today. That being said, I've always secretly wanted a very tiny random chance for alien abduction in DayZ. My roots are Biohazard JPN March 1996. So yeah, SURVIVAL HORROR. *gasp*

It's not often we get a moderators personal opinion on DayZ dev. Nice to hear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I got into the mod just after the OP and I witnessed the decline into KoS and hacking. By the time I left the mod, if you joined a server with more than 10 people on it you usually ran into a hacker. Being teleported with everyone on the server to a field outside Stary for an instant random death match was no fun. Having cows rain from the sky and explode around me or being shelled by invisible adversaries was no fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those of us with patience and appreciation for the task of the standalone will be rewarded in the end. Even if Vanilla DayZ standalone won;t be to your liking there will probably be a mod you want to play. So many of the conversations on this forum will seem pointless and tedious and will be all but forgotten in the months and years to come. Once the game is feature complete AND balanced all will be made clear.

Some questions(if a developer could also reply, that would be much appreciated)

The only way to win them over is to play with them in 1PP. I've converted someone just by playing with them over time. The virtues of 1PP can become apparent rather quickly. I only make a 3PP character because it's a whole different hive where I can start a "new life". Even then I don't come out of 1PP unless I'm running usually. Seriously, I forget 3PP is even there....

orlok I decoded what pilgrim said and came up with this. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/ban-on-a-pound-of-bananas-6330399.html https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2xqwp4/why_the_pound_of_bananas_is_banned_dx/ Interesting random bit of Euro news thrown into DayZ. It's possibly a clue as to when the Art asset for that paper was put together. "Oh we're gonna have a copy of the Evening Standard in the environment. Let's see what's in the news and would make for a cheeky cover in game." GIS for "evening standard ban on a pound of bananas" There was no image found on google of the original cover.

Habibi gave me a free banana with my sandwich today. True story.

Making external screenshot feature solves part of this. If not seeing your character (it's not a "toon", I despise this Warcraft term on multiple levels) is a deal breaker I dare say that Vanilla DayZ is not the game for them. I don't think any of this really matters because I firmly believe that once we are nearing feature complete the new "rules" of Vanilla DayZ will drive away many of these same people who came to CoD.
