Is anyone else concerned that the NewUI is a big step back?

Thanks, devs/all! This is exciting stuff and I hope we get to experimenting with it soon!

How about some static unmovable barrels in some towns?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Me1andMe2's topic in Suggestions
A: that server probably had all the barrels gathered shortly after it went live. B: 5 hours in the realm of DayZ is not an unreasonable amount of time to find an item, especially one considered valuable. DayZ is an experience where those that invest the most time, gain the most. -

☣BioHaze☣ replied to Me1andMe2's topic in Suggestions
I do not agree that barrels are "super rare". Also, there are static barrels in the environment but it's anyone's guess as to whether or not they will be enabled as storage or otherwise usable in the future. The 2nd barrel is already set up like a rain water catch. -

I'm surprised you didn't shoot him sooner. Well played. -
*I believe ColdAtrophy found netting in today's experimental update. So, maybe lack of netting is being addressed. Edit: since I I usually don't look to wrap or ghillie I didn't realize it was an ongoing problem.

You lack patience and perspective. You have earned this. Please DO come back in 2017.

Brainstorm a DAYZ TvT idea with me (originally BrianStorm)

I've thought about how you could mod DayZ to play like RE and I think it would be pretty simple actually. All you need to do is set up invisible barriers that funnel you from town to town and create map checkpoints, kill total goals to activate checkpoints, and items acquisition goals to activate checkpoints. Once you have a path around/through the map, you would mostly just need to add in the values for infected and items along the way. Maybe you would spawn up north and work your way to a boat on the coast... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MrLok, I like your OP, it's definitely a good idea for a mission mode. The infected AI coding alone seems like a lot to this laymen. I do get the impression that modders are going to go wild with DayZ so I guess willing and talented coders should be available.... I agree with someone else when they said that the size of Chernarus is a bit much for this idea. Otherwise, you may NEED to have some kind of waypoint marker over the player bubble when the "psychic connection" or "disturbance in the force" with AI infected was triggered. Having scent markers just wouldn't be enough. You could have the waypoint marker lead the master to within maybe 500-800 meters before the marker dissolves, so you would still have to search a decently large area before you found the survivors. -
I've often wondered why this isn't a viable option. Maybe create a geographical feature like a river that initiates the loading of the next section but in the context of crossing the river so as not to break immersion. I do miss the larger wooded spaces that the original mod map had but I also consider the current map to be superior. A very secure camp spot my friend has kept up will soon be under threat by coming map changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With base building, Large clans will have the advantage for many reasons. In this context they can likely have guards posted day and night to protect the camp from being raided or destroyed. In fact, I believe base building could be detrimental to the perma death aspect of DayZ as people from clans will likely loot a lot less and merely re-gear at a base where the other 1,000 clan members have filled it with loot so they can go PvP again.

Good show. Videos like this are far less repetitive than pure PvP. Historically I have had some good luck when trying to reach out to players in a neutral or helpful fashion. I think a fair percentage of people don't want to KoS and are pleasantly surprised when first contact is not flying lead. I do not play friendly though, and certainly don't trust players in general. Many times when I'm alone and I find a well geared character nearby, I make an effort to make first contact and let it be known that I could of fired but chose not to and in most cases I tell them I simply want to go my own way, undisturbed. And if they shoot, well, there's your other challenge right there, and it's a real challenge because they know you're there.

Beans for no KoS. Especially at the base. KoS is KoS on every square meter of Chernarus. :beans:

This post by SMoss was a wonderful surprise! :) This a rare nod to the invaluable data you and I provide every time we log in, KoS, grow a tomato, jump from a crane, try to holster a banana, teabag a zombie, and bork a bipod onto a longhorn. I would like to say that the DayZ staff and forum moderators take an enormous amount of heat and for the most part handle it like champs. We are on the cusp of huge changes and improvements and I'm squirming with glee! We appreciate your appreciation! Reflect some love back! Wub! Zombies! Infections! <3

Yet, I didn't call you a bitch or anything nearly as offensive as the things in your last post. I will leave you with what I wrote on page 3 and ask that you kindly not poke the bear on this further at this time. Originally @ bororm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DO want all the sexperimental .60's!!! Somewhere in Prague keys are coding my SA! Can you hear them? :D -

You are unable to follow both sides of the debate in a cogent fashion and you are unable to post within forum rules. Reported for abusive language. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did not intend for this to become the new KoS thread. I'm really stoked that BI gave us a shout and I'm excited to see what's to come. -

How could I possibly be toxic towards people who KoS anywhere but here? KoS is by definition griefing and is the single most toxic thing you can do. Just because most players have adopted KoS does not make it right. You have bought into the mentality of the people and groups you ran to for friendship and safety. You never once thought to form your own code of conduct. I have been having this discussion since the summer of 2012 and I have logic to dispel everything you can think of. I did not die for all of .59 experimental despite all the KoS morons running around. Please continue to run around all smug because the average knuckle dragger agrees with you. -

The absolute last thing I care about is my gear. I care about the longevity of my characters life, naked or otherwise. You've made a massive amount of unfounded assumptions and it would be a great service to yourself to understand the person you are addressing before commenting. KoS is not a legit survival strategy in any way. KoS is a way to stave off boredom and ill-perceived threat while making yourself feel better because "it's just a game", and "everybody does it". If you could immerse yourself the in setting of DayZ for a moment your scared and likely unprepared body and mind would choose very different courses of action. When you say, "it's only a game", you are saying, "I lack imagination". -

Nearly suicidal KoS out of boredom Sobi? You're really lucky those guys couldn't shoot straight to literally save their lives! -
Nice but I would add that we need the sling for each weapon as an attachment itself. If you find a rifle without a sling you have to hand carry! There is no good reason why we couldn't have this and we could then have 2 rifles on our backs with use of a sling for each but using 2 slings would keep you from using a backpack as well.

The motivations concern me when they destroy the intended theme of the environment, an apocalypse. Running around griefing is hardly how a person would act in the apocalypse. Right? Some of us are "evangelists" for different aspects of the game, my drum to beat is the "anti-KoS" drum. The prevailing attitude that KoS = survival has dominated the conversation for too long because it's the easiest path and because grief begets grief (grief potato). I am very excited to see the development is finally going to be pulling Vanilla DayZ SA away from that making KoS a much less survivable tactic (imagine 12 infected eating your face within 30 seconds of firing any non-suppressed gun at any time). I don't relish the diminishing of others play styles as much as I relish the diminishing of the psychology that perpetuates KoS. Your KoS friend is certainly the exception, as am I to some extent (most of the people I played with died during those patches). I would still argue that my tactics have a much higher survival rate AND WILL TRANSLATE OVER WELL WHEN CORE MECHANICS ARE IN PLACE (unlike KoS). Seriously, thank you for a cogent response. It's refreshing to actually have a conversation where it seems the person read what I wrote! -

I'm not sure we are using "transcend" the same way. And I'm positive we define KoS differently as well. I am against KoS as defined as bambi sniping, bambi rushing geared player, ALWAYS shooting on sight and NEVER talking or holding anyone up.... Much of this will change with new game mechanics and I can't wait for the tears. The justifications I hear for KoS in general are pathetic and stupid. Sorry not sorry. Go CoD somewhere else. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I moved past the notion that KoS was a means to survival a long time ago and make conscious choices that avoid it. I in turn survive on average far far longer. My initial .59 experimental character died the first day from a slip off a roof but my character after that survived 4 encounters with KoS players either through evasion or use of force before being wiped and I played almost every day. I'm willing to bet there isn't a KoS guy who can top that in .59 experimental. -
Then why would you say: "....switch to a rifle on your back with a single hot key press, the SMG will switch places with your rifle."
-
Switching will cause the problem it's just not the only way it happens. Why would you refute that? Are you just being contradictory to be... contradictory? Why do people here do that? Does it make them feel smarter? Jesus fuck.
-
That's a good idea! I bet it's something they might put in with the new audio module. Currently dropping weapons when switching is happening more because changes to the inventory system. If you have an SMG stored in a pack and pull it out and then switch to a rifle on your back with a single hot key press, the SMG will switch places with your rifle. Then, when you try to put your rifle away it will drop to the ground because the SMG is on your back. Currently, I always try to put a gun away with it's own hot key before pulling out another to ensure I do not drop things as much.
