    The stat that's most important will be yours to choose, because sandbox. If you believe Vanilla SA will be a survival game when done, time survived will likely be the common metric of success. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you've played all the video games from the beginning of video games and are not devoid of creativity you'll agree that shooters became boring long before the last century ended. Constant shooter PvP is the most repetitive and least dynamic type of game. I came to DayZ because it offers a game with combat/marksmanship where I might get into a firefight with another player but also but also must defend against AI and the environment/biohazards. Essentially, DayZ offers a game that isn't ONLY about shooting every other thing that moves. My love for marksmanship and survival horror meet beautifully in this context along with many other sandbox elements I enjoy. I'll say it until I wear these keys out, 1,000 other games provide better PvP shooters experiences with much much better competition. By only KoSing people (who could be a 12 year old playing for the first time or a 45 yr old 5,000 hour player) who don't know you are there you are basically playing sniper grief loot grab all day and the "skill" you display is likely arguable. So go ahead, argue that the survival elements aren't in, argue that you get bored, argue that infected are scarce and loot is plenty. I'll argue that a lot of people have shitty ideas about what constitutes fun and are actually "bad at having fun" (yes, it's possible) and a lot of other people are merely followers and people who can't see past the current state of the game. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give SA 6.0 Then give Stamina and Weight for ultimate tears.

    I see infected wander into structures all the time. With more spawning in will come more chances to find them concealed.

    Side Chat ?, the game feels like a ghost town.

    So many topics are pointless unfortunately.... All non-local chat is immersion breaking. I use 3rd party chat now (TS3) and I feel a little dirty doing it. When we get more infected and scarcity, maybe people will have more varied interactions, with or without side chat. If you really just want fire fights, may I direct you to the 1,000's of other games centered around that aspect, that do it better, and will cater to your limited time constraints. Also, modding.

    If you just want a shooter to PvP and you're playing DayZ, I believe you're doing it wrong on nearly every level. (You like broken ARMA 2 with better graphics?) Clans will be the worst offenders of every exploit forever more. Once we have a more feature complete game with base building and we see populations rise, clans will likely be the major force behind keeping the rinse and repeat play styles alive. Few things will prevent people from stockpiling to go PvP on the coast. The mod saw this progression of playstyles not long before hackers killed it. All in all, a lot of people actually can be "no fun to play with" and in an open sandbox, you're going to encounter a lot of people who don't even care for the context of DayZ as an apocalypse regardless of game mechanics. Much of this still remains to be seen as ColdAtrophy pointed out and modding will (most likely) give us all a version we enjoy.

    The mod keeps me from believing it and prospective modders like my pal ColdAtrophy. There was a time when you spawned on the coast and were surrounded by infected and merely making it inland was a bit of a crap shoot. Much of what I believe weighs on your mind in the above statement (balanced survival mechanics with zombies) still remains to be seen in practice within the game and many of us are hoping the new modules and the renderer are the first real step towards Standalone DayZ and not mod-without-infected-shooter.

    fixed 3PP should have been removed ASAP. It's literally easy mode from ARMA 2, and easy mode has NO PLACE in DayZ SA.

    I believe we might be getting "3D sound" in the future. This means hearing things in relation to their direction, height, and distance as well. Just about everything else you mention is a placeholder.

    YES The waves and the car audio are deafening. Also, you can hear gear shifting further than a longhorn shot.

    3 and a half years of the same bird sound on a loop. 3 and a half years of the same sound of a chain link fence being kicked. 3 and a half years of the same sound of a bucket being kicked. My body is ready.

    Status Report - 15 Jan 2016

    This might be a good time for people to take a break from playing the Alpha or even belaboring too many points of the current state of development, if you want to retain a modicum of sanity that is.... DayZ is a long haul project, and yeah it's my favorite (albeit glorious) PC time suck, but for me that means taking breaks during lulls in patch releases or when the game frustrates me too much. Everything has been a placeholder for a placeholder up until now and I'm DYING to see some new modules most of all. /run lurk mode :ph34r:

    Yup and until it changes drastically the lowest common denominator rules the day (random mini FPS competitions). If BI is smart they will release modding tools along with the major updates to survival mechanics. Otherwise the KoS and PvP people are going to scream... bloody murder? (lol, the irony) How many hours of looting, and getting healthy, and tangling with infected, are all of the PvP types willing to deal with before they can go pew pew? This reminds me, I must invest in Kleenex stock and soon...
  21. Loot on the benign 0/50 server you rent to PvP at the 50/50 public servers faster. The true spirit of DayZ as it has been so far. The revolving door PvP burnout people who emulate their favorite "content providers" will probably find 1.0 Vanilla standalone to be too time consuming and many of the people who exploit server ownership are the same who will prefer to play mods.

    From everything I've read, we are supposed to eventually get jamming dependent on ammo quality and weapon wear. :thumbsup:
