I just want to watch the look on a racists face as they ride the A train from end to end during rush hour. Every race and creed, all more or less enjoying misery together but getting along just fine on their daily commute.

Still hate the term "toon". Fucking WarCraft terminology needs to go. Infected vaulting is awesome though. Exciting stuff.

No dynamic infected spawn yet. :( ^This is so important.... Hicks said he thinks it will be ready for .61. Infected vaulting over map objects and fences was awesome/terrifying. No one here mentioned the other blocker we saw (the first being textures on infected not loading). The lootsplosion in the bathroom of the brick building/construction office/foremans office. The stream itself ended with 0 fanfare or sign off that I saw, with their internet tanking and them just shutting down.

Whoa there, pilgrim. This is ignoring the balancing in Beta that should effect most of these borked tables plus a bevy of other core features that will be game changers. I hope this game gets brutally difficult again and the learning curve shoots through the roof. Then I can capture all the tears in buckets to dry them out and refill my salt stash! The circle of life!

So, no PAX stream until tomorrow.... That makes me believe Monday or some day next week for public release. Of course, I'm out of town for a few days next week so it would have to be the week .60 drops.

I won't even boot up to look for TEST servers or .60 servers because I want my Steam to show "Last played February 1". -_-

Hmmm, strange looking SteamDB activity.... There's a block with both stableprep and experimentalprep (I don't think I've seen that before), and the last action has a rollback? If they release the patch at PAX today, I will take back what I said about being hype mongers, and it will be a great PR move. Ready yesterday, released verbally by Hicks at the end of stream? That would be smart, that would be win/win.

Your view point is more extreme than mine on this and you make them sound nefarious in how they have handled the game, which is completely not the case. Somehow I think you are not taking into consideration the trials and tribulations DayZ dev has gone through or the special challenges of the project unique to DayZ game and dev process. Sarcasm, personal attacks, and rude condemnation of the devs will always be met with stern warnings and possibly mod actions and is counterproductive. In the last few years there have been times when deadlines are missed or info is scarce but these 3 listed above are some of the worst instances of communication breakdown in Standalone history. I do not agree that after Beta they will "take the money and run". BI has their entire future invested in the success of DayZ. If they make the game I believe they want to make it will cement them as an industry leader and give them a lot more support for projects in the future. -

This is why I needed time to chew over Odin's post. I understand it (holding the patch for PAX) but I do not believe they stand to gain much if anything other than some disdain from their dedicated player base.

I feel like there has been an unusual succession of poor or false information from the devs in recent months: We were given an estimate of February and that fell short by more than an entire quarter. It was said they would not hold the patch for a status report or event and now it seems they are doing just that. (I think it was in a status report) The devs said dynamic infected spawn was confirmed for .60 and now that was pushed back too. (Do you remember saying that on a recent stream, Byron?) If you're holding back .60 to boost viewers on the PAX stream, that's fucked up. You can't convince me DayZ needs more hype.... -
I had to think on this a bit before I could decide if I agree or not and I found I do. I have the distinct impression that .60 is ready and they are holding it for PAX. It's a super shitty way to try to get more viewers for the stream and a bit of a slap in the face to those of us who have waited so long. So this makes for a succession of poor or false information from the devs in recent months: We were given an estimate of February and that fell short by more than an entire quarter. It was said they would not hold the patch for a status report or event and now it seems they are doing just that. The devs said dynamic infected spawn was confirmed for .60 and now that was pushed back too. DayZ does not need more hype, subscriptions, or even units sold, at this point. DayZ needs data logs and people testing in large groups.

Wasn't there a demo of a very similar to RE4 camera angle when they were fiddling with it? People didn't like it because the character model obscured things too much. As much as I love Biohazard/Resident Evil I do believe this angle mostly only helps with looking over walls and doesn't solve corner peeking. I wouldn't mind if DayZ had a similar mechanic for firing postures too. Real marksman plant their feet when they fire. -

This is what I had hoped for most. It seems like the sensible option and has been proven to work well in other titles. -
If I am alone I usually approach people with a very matter of fact tone saying something along the lines of, "Hello there by the (insert structure, building, or map feature), I saw you approaching the area a moment ago and I wanted you to know that am not here for a firefight and just wanted to alert you of my presence so as not to startle you. If you need any food or water, I can help; if you have anything worth trading, we can possibly do that too." Some guys immediately try to shoot, or run. (I either return fire or run as well.) Some guys just freeze and do the friendly wiggle without talking. (I will often take this as a neutral encounter and simply leave.) People who talk are either honest survivors, or murderers trying to trap me. If the vibe is right I might make a short term partnership to loot an area with them and maybe learn a little about their journey and what they saw along the way. In these cases, I rarely turn my back to people and often keep well out of range of melee while interacting. I consider having my pulse taken without my consent or people who keep invading my space as possibly more hostile and will usually break off at the slightest hint of something being off. If I am with a friend or friends and we have the superior numbers it is usually easier to basically hold someone at gunpoint to control the situation and suss out their intentions through interrogation. The servers you choose to play on make a big difference too. I play on mostly 1PP servers and they tend to have more neutral and friendly players so my averages for neutral and friendly encounters is probably higher than most.

Thanks for putting this together HawkZ and for taking the time Peter! Can you talk about any plans for changing 3PP? Will we see any changes in how we action doors to open and close? Besides Enfusion, what module or major design change are you looking forward to the most? Can you touch on any upcoming changes to melee? I would like to see a soft skill for the "infected hunter" play style where once you've killed a high number of infected (1,000 maybe) with melee only you would then gain a small bonus (10-20%) to damage versus infected with melee attacks. Would this be something that would fit the core concepts of the game?
