  1. Shenmue is a classic for sure. DayZ is one of the first open alpha releases on this scale if I'm not mistaken and originators are bound to make more mistakes. I think it's better to look at the time comparisons on a general level and what's expected as the outcome if you want to draw parallels with other games. So by that reasoning DayZ's progress has not been outside of an industry norm. That's the real point imo.

I think it's WAY more than that too. They gave the number of unique anims per gun recently, I think it was over 50....

Each gun has more unique animations than any game I'm aware of. This alone makes the job unusually time intensive.
  5. I'm hoping they can find a way to improve how the game handles infected populations on a grand scale. There must be some elegant way to solve this. With any luck the late optimization passes will free up a lot of resources which may effect what the game can handle server wise. Maybe there's a chance they'll bring back server spawned infected, or maybe there's a way to mix server spawned and dynamic spawning....
  6. The long stretches between patches can really test a supporters resolve. I CAN'T WAIT to going back to checking SteamDB for evidence of new builds over my morning coffee every weekday. I wonder sometimes if I'll enjoy DayZ as much when I don't have things to bork. Maybe I have a little more patience than I thought? Maybe I have the same benefit of perspective that *pilgrim spoke of. (2k+ hours mod+SA = money well spent) When they mentioned ideas to scrap things initially and make a dream boat engine/game I was really excited by the news and prepared for more dev time mentally. But then it seemed they had to decide to scrap MORE things, I was less excited (though happier for better quality) and more more deflated because I knew it could possibly add months more to the project. Some of the waiting for infected numbers to be properly addressed was absolutely excruciating for me as non-PvPer. When they came out after a long long long time and said that they were going to have to go back to a dynamic infected spawn mechanic instead of a server based spawn mechanic I was absolutely fucking furious that we waited all that time to come to that conclusion..... for a zombie game! It seemed to me that had they come to the conclusion sooner they could have spent all that time improving how they spawn in at the very least. I'm really concerned about "pop-in" for infected spawning or people watching for spawn to detect movements like in the mod. A long time ago I made the decision to be pragmatic with my feelings RE: a game I spent $30 on.... I have other games to play and breaks from DayZ keep the game feeling fresh when you return. When it comes to building anything "large" I do believe it's also pragmatic to add significantly to initial time estimates given and this has helped me stay level headed. Anyway, why can't I pour the powdered milk into a can of peaches yet, and stir it with my finger?

Are wounds and puddles still coming?

This hasn't been referenced in a long long time. They did show the updated decals for textures on the map recently, and those looked great. Only slightly related.... We also recently saw some preliminary scarring features, which came off when the character shaved his beard, but I'm sure that is WIP. Hopefully scars can be made to correlate to the wounds you speak of....

    How To Win Playerbase Back

Funny thing that.... I wasn't "defending" or "praising" anything here. My response to you was simply citing forum policy which is, add something constructive or GTFO. Between your time spent here and your time in game I have seen nothing to indicate that you've ever contributed anything meaningful. But alas, you can't see the forest for the trees and merely want to label people who can "fanboys". You have no idea what I think about DayZ or it's dev process. You're so helplessly self involved that you've created your own internal feedback loop of negativity and self entitled whining.... well done!

    How To Win Playerbase Back

It actually takes the perspective of someone who has followed this process CLOSELY and from the BEGINNING to fully conceptualize all of factors that have effected, impeded, changed, and yes even improved the scope of DayZ SA over these 3+ years. IMT has likely been witness to my helping to inform even some of our most dedicated player/testers with many many hours in game about the changes to come and the experience that the team is aiming for. There have been some key moments in this process where I have nearly melted down from lack of perceivable progress. There have even been a few decisions the dev team made that have infuriated me. There have been long stretches where I found myself day dreaming about feature complete DayZ while struggling to find some mission to motivate me with the, buggy, splintered, feature poor Alpher. Taking breaks from DayZ, tinkering with experimental builds, and finding a group of mostly testing minded players has helped keep the dream alive for me and avoided DayZ burnout. I came to enjoy the testing so much, I know I will miss the days of waking to a new patch and looking for changes with friends over my morning coffee. Features and polish, "a good game", will absolutely bring back the unwashed masses of griefing wankers you all seem to pine for. I'm not worried about modding splintering the player base either. There's no way to make everyone play Vanilla once you offer mods. Me, I just want empty cans (remember when we pooped those?), molotov cocktails, decent zombie AI, good hit detection, and quasi authentic survival mechanics. Is that too much to ask?

Great, you've said your useless piece once again, so glad you're back! Maybe you should stay off the forum until 1.0 if you have nothing constructive to offer.

    .63 ETA ?

This is one of the more rational posts you've made in quite a while and I commend you for it. Also, I agree 100%.
  16. ☣BioHaze☣

    .63 ETA ?

Please let them stay in PUBG or something if that's what they want or don't have the patience to take 30 minutes and read about DayZ dev. IF you want battle royale type game play there are tons of games purpose built just for that. Rinse and repeat shooter games are the single most boring and over done experiences in gaming ever.

Will DayZ Ever Go Full Price ?

I see it the other way. Almost NO ONE I ask knows of DayZ, even among gamers. I can think of maybe a half dozen people I've asked, "Do you know DayZ?", and they answered yes. Console release will spur PC sales and even vice versa. They haven't started truly promoting DayZ yet either because they don't have anywhere near a finished product.... So, I think there are many many more people who will be interested in DayZ over the next +/-2 years who never heard of it. Also, people scared off by bugs and bad reputation may think twice once they hear differently or watch some amazing video....
  18. ☣BioHaze☣

    .63 ETA ?

Do you understand enough about what they are doing and what they have been doing to really offer valid criticism?
  19. ☣BioHaze☣

    .63 ETA ?

Man, I really hoped we would see .63 before the end of 2017. It also makes good business sense to drop a patch with a huge update before the holidays. *SIGH*

How the devs make me feel:
  23. ☣BioHaze☣

    Hardcore in DayZ

Very very little is how it will be when the game is complete. Almost everything you do now is going to change as features and mechanics are implemented.
  24. ☣BioHaze☣

    think about it.

I don't think modding will "fix" dayz sa but it will give you all the PUBG with dayz skin that you want! Conversely, modding will also bring versions that move away from PvP and lean more towards survival. In short, modding will solve many problems but is not the magic bullet solution to all of dayz sa's problems.

    Dead players turn to zombies?

This is one of the only pieces of basic lore given to us by the devs. People who suggest reanimation of players do not understand the situation the development team is presenting. Read more, "play" less.
