    BETA Status Report - November 28

    Thanks for the update devs and all! For me, half of 2017 will be gone without my even logging into DayZ as I promised myself I would not play until .63.... In the mod, I recall the Uzi could take different types of magazines from handguns, but I do not remember it taking more than one type of ammo... Can you please give us more detail on what this means, "different ammunition types in a magazine".

    I believe one tiny bit of lore is that people who spawn on the beach were shipwrecked the night before. You would likely awaken ravenous after surviving a situation like that.

    Welcome back! This is an odd time for players to return. There are massive changes coming in .63 that will make .62 literally obsolete. If you're hankering for DayZ and if you want a final taste of the old tech before we enter the modern age, this is the time for it. Personally I haven't played much since .62 dropped and have lost all interest until we get .63.... *sigh* I still miss it though, and my survival buddies!

    If you encounter someone in close quarters and see them first, talk. Either be honest or use the "I've got friends around the corner" rouse. If you see them first and have a clear exit, run. Even playing on Vanilla servers you will have a greater mix of experiences with this tactic than simply KoSing everyone. I play DayZ for a large variety of experiences, not rinse and repeat PvP and I like to RP my ideas of survival. Which simply means, stay alive as long as possible. This doesn't include inviting incoming gun fire in any circumstance. I've found that playing in super paranoid fashion is usually best and many encounters can end in neutral fashion.... "Hey you, over there by the house/tree/well/car." "I saw you come through town and I wanted to let you know that I am here watching you, but I am not interested in a firefight." "In a moment I am going to leave this town and you can continue to loot undisturbed." "I also want to let you know that not everyone will KoS." "Be safe! Bye!" This doesn't always ended peacefully or in neutral fashion but if I do get something other than a firefight it's usually a useful trade or DayZ related discussion. We talk about our history with the game, and what we want to see in the future, and once in a while you make a friend. If it does turn into a fight, well then, you got your pulse pounding PvP and real fight, not some sniping of somebody who never saw you for gear you probably didn't really need.

    @Jervant Yo! I have an idea for the "like" function.... Maybe we could keep the "thanks" and "beans" and add other DayZ food stuffs instead of the typical "like" and such. Apple, banana, kiwi, orange. Tuna, sardines, peaches, spaghetti. Canteen, notacola, spite, mountain don't. Ascribe a feeling to each food in parentheses next to the image in the drop down menu. Apple (ok), banana (like), kiwi (confused), orange (orange you glad I didn't say banana). Thanks!

    I.... I think I love you. There, I said it! Remember President GWB? He was the perfect example of "lowest common denominator". People generally have TERRIBLE taste for all kinds of media/art. Games are a perfect example of this. Did somebody say gameplay?

    Can't click anything after closing DayZ

    I have this problem with most steam games and I do believe it's the overlay. The only thing that will restore my desktop reliably is to log off Windows from the start button and log back in.

  17. I never said it was innovative, I said they made mistakes related to having no precedent for the process. After all of the negative mostly unfounded garbage you spewed above this, why would you not just leave DayZ behind altogether? No one wants to even play it once it's done right? Are you a glutton for punishment? Isn't it incredible? Also, there are millions of console and PC owners who have never heard of DayZ as it's never been fully promoted. Unless DayZ implodes completely, I do have faith that BI will finish the game and it will be better than any fantasy you had while playing the mod. Just remember everything you said here and definitely save your fork, there's (humble) pie.

  19. They just finished one of a few guns that will be ready for .63, the fnx, that was 30 different anims just for the one gun. If I'm not mistaken, they also announced more mo cap sessions as well, and they have a lot left for vehicle interactions and actions in different poses. I also believe that the interactive depth for the character is intrinsically more complicated because of all the different factors working on many unusual mechanics tied to them. Bringing together all of these elements far exceeds the average demand for characters in a game. Just the animations for crawling out of an overturned vehicle (on trello) are above and beyond the standard expectations of most gamers.
  20. I wasn't comparing the 2 engines I just pointed out that one is a prefabricated engine and the other is being made from scratch, that's all. Also, you said PuG-B. :D
  21. Didn't read carefully past this because it seems to discount that BI is making the engine from scratch to run DayZ specifically. Then you start talking about PuG-B (the gangster pug with a radical attitude!), made from unreal engine that's basically DayZ-theft-auto, rinse and repeat shooter of the month. It's not a fair comparison in many ways and to either game. In fact, I'm not sure how you can say what you say and actually have an accurate understanding of what DayZ 1.0 will be like.
  22. Wow, something we agree on.... Be careful lumping people into one group in any instance. I don't, "take everything that's thrown at me", I just don't throw a fit whenever things don't go the way I think they should. Objectivity and realistic and flexible expectations can temper a person for adversity.
  23. Historically, the further we are from our last patch the more agitated and combative the members here become. People will likely have short fuses and be more acerbic until we have relief from this wait.
  24. Why is there always a noob who quotes steam charts like they are the harbinger of doom? Or a not so noob.... It's a fairly regular occurrence but I guess you wouldn't know that if you're just a troll interloping fair weather supporter.
  25. Whether you think public alpha is a sound concept or not has very little to do with the text you quoted. I was pointing out the fact that originators often suffer more pitfalls. Early Access seems to be proving itself a raw deal for most consumers and I have only supported 1 or 2 other projects. Considering the apparent enjoyment that the DayZ player base has had from this broken limping Frankencoded alpha in its current state I would say this negates the drawbacks alpha brought and it was merely the testers who did not have the resolve to participate wholly. Many have since melted down and left in a huff declaring DayZ forever shit and then they can tell stories about how they were involved when it was still good and how it will never be done and the devs are thieves and we're just suckers and fanboys. Then fucking 1.0 comes out and they see a video and pee themselves a little and they'll want to return with pride like they were here from the start and "love" DayZ. What bullshit.
