I think the first few months of erm "live" Alpha development are going to be amazing. We will watch DayZ culture mature around the game engine while the game engine evolves. I play as a survivor/hero so I hope the game is able to move more towards survival than DM. It would be nice if DayZ became known for being a game where you can make random team ups in game, safely. Maybe we should have small DM maps for people who want nothing more than DM with a DayZ skin. It would separate a large part of the KoS crowd who would then find regular DayZ boring/unnecessary. Different hive, and load outs depending on maps etc.... I dunno.

so, dayz is infact mainly pve, not pvp as i thought.
☣BioHaze☣ replied to Johnny Trigger's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZ is definitely what you make of it. I have personally played mostly PVE solo survival horror style. I avoided all contact with other players, at all costs. Last summer I had a 28 day character (no pun), with 1,000+ dead zombies killed. I had camps and built vehicles on multiple servers, all maintained by myself. Only when I began to get cabin fever, and tried to help a random player did I get killed. This game has a learning curve, but once you get comfortable gearing up, it requires some imagination to sustain replay value. -
Apparently I was in on the first page of this madness, handing out beans back in January. Now I see it's at 80+ pages..... I have gone through 40+, and laughed quite a bit. Awesome stuff!

How about some legitimate DayZ jump scares?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to kasigawa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think just adding the slow moving zombie that never stops tracking would be good. It would be cool if some of those were randomly roaming the woods. I don't think it would add scare factor, or provide "jump scares" so much though. I do however believe zombies should latch onto you and/or tackle you in some instances. If you fight too long at point blank range, it would only make sense for the zombies to try to take a bite out of you at some point.... I would also go so far as to suggest an homage to Resident Evil by adding the mechanic for using (and then losing) your hunting knife in a zombies skull as an emergency zombie detachment maneuver. -
Lol Give those beans to your dad.

Not just you, Uwe. I was merely shedding light on a serious topic, while injecting humor into the equation. I saw a Muslim extremist DayZ clan pop-up months ago. If we had an evangelical Christian DayZ clan I guess the circle would be complete. All of that kind of thing needs to stay as far away as possible from my video game world. Though if we have a group that wants to dress up like Nazi's, we should let them. More on topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgXNVA9ngx8

Is there some thinly veiled neo-Nazi contingent? Can we put SS uniforms in the SA for the semi-closet Nazi types of the gaming world? That's someone I want to hunt. Sincerely, Hitler's Testicle

If you could go back to being a noob, would you?
☣BioHaze☣ replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I left for many months and with all the changes I feel noob again. Personally, I don't think I would want to go back to being brand new. The learning curve for me was steep (I'm not a big FPS player), and I was far too trusting in the beginning. -
I would rather be kidnapped, than sniped. I do not however, want to be staked to the ground. I think having the ability to tie hands and feet (+hogtie) would be enough. You should also be able to work your way out of bindings with time and effort. So having someone tied would be temporary UNLESS someone was essentially guarding them. Also, his Russian(?) grammar + English warms my heart, and makes me think of Yakov Smirnoff. "In Soviet Russia, road forks you!"

[SA] Usable Indoor Fireplaces
☣BioHaze☣ replied to florian.de.los.santos@googlemail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think this is a great suggestion, though it was made before in the past. I do think the homes should also feature standard gas stoves that you could try to light. Some would still work, while others would not. These could be used with minimal light/smoke, but would be best for cooking and only offer a minimal boost to body heat. -
This has been mentioned in the past. And yes, handcar or speeder makes a lot more sense than a full train.

Everything will be vehicular manslaughter? Thanks for news.

I've returned to DayZ mod after quite a few months away; forum downtime, and anticipation of the SA Alpha launch is partly to blame. The game has changed quite a bit since I left.... I used to play as a lone wolf mountain man, and the ONLY way I survived as many days as I had in the past was by running away from people. Now KoS seems less prevalent on the scant vanilla servers, and I find it hard to break the habit of fleeing when I encounter other players.

The correct answer to this is, "Lousy Smarch weather!". I can spot a Simpsons reference in a Ghillie suit from 500 yards. More on topic? I don't follow game news like a maniac, like some of my friends. I used to more, but it just makes you nuts. WANT WANT WANT Did you all SEE the new Smash Bros? It's best to just put it all out of mind for as long as possible. Then one day, bing, kill ALL the zombies! Cheers to rocket for suffering fools. I feel I have waited for this game since March of '96 when I first put a piece of tape over a button in a PS1, and played an import copy of Bio Hazard JPN. I think I can wait a little longer.

I actually PLAYED DayZ for the first time in months because I wasn't able to lurk here. Cool details added, and there wasn't as much KoS going on. I ran into (and away from) quite a few people without getting shot. *fades back into foliage*

The potential for this game is staggering. One day a Rocket will press launch, and we can all choose your own adventure again. Keep up the good work! -
Hoping SA features sawed off mod with increased spread that can be holstered as side arm and ability to unload both barrels at once. Close quarters crowd control.

I've been playing survivor style, trying to follow a code I might adapt in this situation if I were personally placed there, and it's been difficult to say the least. This game is not only limited by your creativity (Rockets quote), but the creativity of others you must play along side (here comes the hate). If a majority KoS for gear because it's the fastest way, and they don't care to spend time running and gearing up for loot, you get a massive deathmatch, just like every other shooter. Some players come to DayZ with stars in their eyes, thinking they will get an MMOResident Evil experience (like me on some level), only to find that the vast majority of players have no interest in "friendly team-ups", and merely kill them at the first opportunity, whether you have anything of value or not. 1) I understand that killing zombies is boring after awhile (I'm starting to feel it myself), and that PvP adds replay value, but I think it would be great to make Zombies more challenging (more blood, but make them stagger when shot), that might make teamwork a more desirable strategy, if at least 2 guys were needed to unload on a Zed to kill it quickly enough for a safe outcome. 2) Then add a secure property mechanic with light barricades on town borders, not a safe zone with no PvP, and a way to clear zombies for extended periods of time while you still occupy a town/city. IE, if you kill ALL zombies in a certain range, and set up the barricades in a certain time limit, they cannot respawn quite as quickly or in as great numbers. Then you might see more focus on acquisition, and retention of properties, clan versus clan. All the while, trying to stem the flow of Zeds. This idea requires larger amounts of players per server to make it work, and might be too much "structure" considering the original vision, but I thought maybe some of these thoughts might be interesting to put out there for discussion. I've read similar ideas on here regarding property acquisition, but when I thought this up, I did not recall reading anything with these particular features. Whether you like my idea or not, thanks for reading.

I'm a "fanboy" when it comes to certain artists and games. Frank Zappa Park Chan Wook Shigeru Miyamoto What's not to love? I've had more awesome hours of fun with Smash Bros, Resident Evil, Super Monkeyball 1 & 2, Daigasso Band Brothers 1 & 2, Pangya, and DayZ (to name a few favorites) than most other games I have played in 30+ years of gaming. I know what I like, and why I like it. If extolling the virtues of my favorite media, entertainment, and artists makes me a "fanboy". So be it. -

The few, the proud, the immune. If we never get another dev update but had the SA ready to play a week earlier, I would be ok with that. That's my stance. Updates are cute, but actually applying bullets to Zombies is more satisfying. Go team Rocket? -
this though i recently updated the mod and keep thinking of playing a little....
