I wish I could have contributed enough time to the mod and community to have "earned" a key but in my case I've been well occupied with enough real world stuff and haven't had enough time for or access to DayZ up until pretty recently. I'm not traveling anytime soon and my work schedule is no more than full time currently. If the game drops soon I should have really nice chunks of time to play the SA. :) Regarding the video: Hiding and camouflage will be more difficult with long barrels and tool handles protruding so high above ones shoulders....

I wanna, "dick around and do a whole lot of nothing" just like hetstaine was. :( I will pay to pick through everything and try to offer helpful observations. You will release the hounds.

People misinterpret KoS often because of the language barrier..... I find it highly unlikely that the SA will be less awesome than the mod. If you consider the mod to be super awesome, then you'll see my point. I have said that DayZ SA is a huge challenge but I also have faith that they have considered simplicity in ways you and I don't know about. Enough forethought and expertise has likely gone into the production of DayZ SA that the common problems with adding on content are less prevalent. DayZ was built from the bottom up to facilitate additions and flexibility on many many levels.

Rocket quoted Barbrady on reddit....

That's what I took it mean. So I'm guessing some the subdivisions outlying the cities will now have names. That's helpful and more authentic I guess. *I'm planning on dying a lot now, so everything goes as planned.*

Google translated Arsenys text for the 2 player pic on twitter to read: Edit: Reddits had this for better make happy translation. We had a little run through Zelenogorsk, got some loot, I found a knife and a jacket; that dude found a screwdriver So we are like: ''Yo, got some change, bro?'' and that's a sweet reference to Russian hoodlums (gopniki) and how they begin conversation with random victim in the street. Russian hoodlums' natural habitat is city outskirts, comprised of huge apartment blocks (just like new Cherno area - Novoselki)

Quick status update for week 8 November

Well put. Unfortunately there is a reason why average intelligence is, average. Culture is essentially a democracy in that the majority rules. I began playing the mod around the time you had and I was sad to see KoS mentality take over. As I am a fan of survival horror and not FPS games I merely learned to play on low pop servers and did things many people would probably find boring. There are also quite a few factors of the SA's initial state upon release that may contribute to more survivors being interested in playing than bandit minded people. No vehicles and limited weaponry will keep some away. Others may not have the patience to deal with glitches that may pop up. I'm a hopeful, idealistic gamer at heart but the fatalist in me also knows the reality of people, given guns, with little to no consequence for their actions, and what they are capable of. Griefers gonna grief.... -

Yup. Only the toothless rapey shit for brains pose a threat. Not the average survivor. I have faith in Rocket and Co. It will be a survivable horror (without being an abject murderer). Edit: post 666 The above song fills me with as much joy as the prospect of the SA. -
Right right. Cherno fight club. Not a whole lot to gain from spawn on spawn violence but people are thug minded and short sighted in general. /insert jokes On the other hand Blades of Steel was a great Hockey game with a great fighting game in it too.... /close jokes Has a dev mentioned stealth kills? I have mixed feelings about these as it can take over the gameplay culture. Should you be able to sneak up and garrote someone or slit their throats quietly? Yes. Should 80% of kills go down that way realistically? No.

I think this way too but there is a big difference between "I can't trust you" and "I should just shot you." My random team-ups have been worth the times people would shoot at me when I approached them. We shall see..... -
How badly do you think someone will want to go hand to hand with someone carrying a fire arm? You would need to sneak up on them really quietly with a 2x4 and.... I don't see it being easy unless some gameplay is broken.

Logic. That's why they would be very rare. Diseases that kill the weak and infirm don't kill ALL the weak and infirm. One of the single most common fear and moral mechanics in most popular zombie movies is the infected or possibly infected child. The parents protect the child, the child turns, kills a parent or survivor and then is finally killed (or some similar turn of events). If in movie is fine then in game should be fine too.

Yes, all of the above. Chernarus is far from a static platform that ones essentially only viewing like in most FPS games. Much of the environment has potential interactions from something as simple as opening a door, to crafting, to obtaining resources (wood, water, gasoline) and yes even the loot everywhere much of which has damage and wear properties built in. Sometimes we take for granted a work of depth because we only see the surface. We all want to just reach out and manipulate every in game world like it's reality but the games are limited to the combination of the technologies and the imaginations at work. Try to put this all into perspective and I think you'll find DayZ to be an extremely ambitious undertaking.

^QOTD Just wanna say for the record. I did not intend to super derail this thread with the RaptureZ pic last night. People multi quoting it and riding some lateral rail made me  immediately. Just bean the pic and keep talking, right? ANYWHO I'm not a graphics whore personally. Gameplay >>>>> Graphics The screenshots I've seen make me happy enough quality/resolution wise. I try to judge some of this based on scale too. Chernarus plus will be an enormous "live" environment with massive amounts of interactive environments and items. I want enough definition to suspend belief/aid immersion and at the same time I want a game that functions properly. If you look at other map based MMO's you always see a logical progression in quality after the initial release. DayZ SA is vapor until it's not for one thing. THEN when it finally habbens and people are happy tons of $$$ will flow into DayZ everything including the qualities of the next map. Am I right?

If you had the opportunity to add one pistol

I'm a little surprised I'm the one posting this. I am by no means a gun expert of any kind but Resident Evil 4 taught me about this exceptional firearm. The Mauser C96 (aka, Broomhandle, Box Cannon) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauser_C96 I would think finding the Red 9 variant (chambered for 9mm) would really be a good weapon to have ammo wise. These guns were used widely in the surrounding regions but I could find no mention of any documented military use in CZ listed on Wiki. -
Condolences. It's exactly everyone on this page who posted above it and me. No moar, no less.

I would give you a dozen cans for this if I could. Would run with you anytime, Vin. :beans: -
Punching confirmed for the SA.

Fixed. I honestly don't want too much homage to other games in DayZ and certainly no Nazi regalia for Wolf and the likes. We will all end up standing around looking like a Halloween party with Sepharoth and Mario costumes.... no! Can it sometimes rain parachuting exploding cows when you find the LSD in the laboratory?
-
My only point is.... they are no longer children. Diseases don't discriminate. Did you have problems with shooting dogs in Resident Evil as well? I have no trouble separating pixels from reality. If I had my choice they would be in the game and rarely be seen. More atmosphere as described by joe_mcentire and within that super creepy abandoned kindergarten or nursery there is a small chance for a tiny ravenous hellspawn that will bite your nads off. That's not too much to ask. If by keeping zombie children/babies out of the game it avoids a lot of trouble with regional laws regarding content and allows them to blanket release the game, then I am all for it.

Man, a ticket on the hype train is free and as convenient as visiting this forum. I get so swept up that it's easy to lose sight of the fact that at the end of the day, DayZ is still just a game. Why lump all of this false importance on a game and make myself crazy? It's going to feel like Mega Christmas when they finally release this beast....
