I'm guessing I don't get the movement bug because I map my keys in a weird left handed button configuration...? I was able to pick fresh apples to reach neutral health earlier myself, I just never reached energized or healing when I needed it.

    dayz is buggy

Where did you get a finished version of the game? I want one too!!! The "game" is projected to release in 2016. If you have a time machine, you're seriously holding out on the rest of us.

I'm not up on all the latest game dev news but I haven't seen another Alpha quite of this scale. Most MMO's I've seen with public Alpha release are far simpler in comparison I think. My 2 Guilders.

The frustration you are experiencing is a staple of the DayZ world. I am a huge fan of this game but I stepped away for months and merely read/lurked on the forum until news of an update I thought I would enjoy. People invest in things that fail all the time. Creative endeavors of the best intentions collapse under their own weight. Given time DayZ may be an incredible world of endless adventure or a pile of broken code that fades into internet legend. I'm betting on the former. :) Edit: for related content. I broke my leg either stepping onto a crossbow or trying to pick it up. I have experienced some rubberbanding. I've been careful about eating and drinking but I never was able to see light green status + healing after taking some damage.

It's a privilege because most games have a CLOSED Alpha. Rebuttal?

Here's some helpful incite, Chief. Balance is in BETA. Please take the time to get caught up on ALL of the development news including the development "roadmap". The most important thing for you to keep in mind while involved with this game is that changes to the game are going to constantly break it and sometimes the impact of the those changes is not known until the patch is released. Calling the devs "stupid" in any way is ignorant on many fronts.

(Theory: People who get attached to gear probably didn't play the mod.) I will not return to stable until some of the DC issues are fixed, I don't like playing on higher ping servers just to stay in game longer than 15 minutes.

I have now experienced the current metabolism glitches. I was at neutral (not healthy but no adverse hunger or thirst) and ran around gathering all of the zombies in a mid sized coastal area. After running for <5 mins I was red hungry and thirsty. I stopped and dispatched the 4 zombies with a Hoe. I found a safe building to crouch in and ate 1 can of beans which made dark green hungry/thirsty almost immediately. Second can of beans, hungry went away but thirst remained dark green. I had no drinks available so I could not try to fix the status immediately. I did encounter a glitch while crawling with a broken leg last night. At one point I began to crawl at at least double speed (this has been experienced in previous patches I believe), though I tried, I could not repeat this glitch.

People complaining about running from zombies in a zombie game. Played about an hour last night with no running glitch. I play in almost exclusively 1st person, so looking at a different running animation doesn't bother me because I cannot see it. Hit detection is further improved. I fought a zed with a Hoe and was able to side step his attack and then walk WHILE the Hoe was swinging and land my shot to his head right where the animation shows contact. All very smooth. I can confirm that the baseball bat does work against zeds now. It strikes very much on the right side so getting head shots was a little trickier than with other weapons. Zombie aggro and AI seems to be further improved. I ran into a non-aggressive player but his mic was so low and his accent so thick that I merely parted ways.
  10. Hi folks! I often see the terms we use to describe the different playstyles as meaning different things to different people. I personally feel it's important to agree upon the language we use to ensure we are understood when discussing different DayZ playstyles/practices. Below you will find my PERSONAL definition of the terms, the way I think they should be used. I would welcome your ideas or changes regarding these terms. Fresh spawn (Bambi) - unarmed, mostly harmless regardless of play style. Survivor (Carebear) - Loots for gear, hordes gear (when persistent of course), repels zombies, bandits, murderers, and KoS'rs, only when necessary, and would avoid conflict unless cornered (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Mountain man - Subsists on sparse prefab gear preferring to craft and hunt for supplies/food. Often hiding far from civilization they avoid all encounters with other players (mostly alone/Lone Wolf style). Medic - Loots and are usually pacifists whose primary goal is to heal players of any affinity on purely moral principal (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Hero - Loots and assists bambis/survivors/medics, usually hunts for bandits/murderers (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Bandit - Loots for starter gear and then takes on the role of a thief who attempts to rob it's victims of their loot using mostly non-lethal means and will only use lethal force when they meet resistance or other bandits (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). Murderer/Assassin - May loot or kill for loot. A killer that can take many forms (sniper, close combat assassin, medium range assault specialist) and often carefully chooses their victims based on "grief profiling" (see also, internet tears), a challenge they may represent based on their gear, or purely for the thrill of killing another armed and aggressive player (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style). KoS'r - Prefers to loot as little as possible. As a Bambi they will seek the first weapon they can get their hands on and try to kill any and all players they encounter until they have enough gear to consider a raid on a military location. Once in full military gear this player will often turn into a Bambi sniper or merely just continue engaging every player they come across in a firefight until they start the process again (may play in a group or alone/Lone Wolf style)..

Playstyle definitions or What's a Bandit?

While I appreciate the sentiment, the names for game play styles should not be seen as stereotypes but merely terminology. All definitions are flexible to degree, and some people switch between play styles on a whim.

    Shoot to KILL

"Freaking" was used out of frustration, not anger. Bandit isn't jargon in this context, it means that you use the threat of violence as a means to robbery. The word has been co-opted by the KoS crowd to add legitimacy to their tactics. The same KoS players call themselves "survivors" now because they think the entire game is kill or be killed. The language we agree upon is important and shouldn't be made to be self serving. I have wanted to make a thread about the different definitions for the play styles we see and this has inspired me to do just that now... thanks! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212197-playstyle-definitions-or-whats-a-bandit/

  14. Hi! Welcome to DayZ forum! Please take the time to read the last 3-4 status reports to answer your questions regarding Zombie AI and Zombie pathfinding. Many regulars here stay on top of the development by following the Devtracker and Status reports which are posted in dedicated parts of this forum. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/134-development-blogs-status-reports/ Please take the time to read up before posting new topics. Thanks!

    Shoot to KILL

What? You mistake anger for a person who can clearly pose an impassioned debate and I try hard not draw assumptions about any random person on the internet. Nearly 35 years of gaming and I'm not an "elder statesman"? WTH does that make me then? Sorry buddy, a bandit robs people and in no way does robbery have to end in murder. Producing a weapon does not entail using said weapon. Cuffs, restraints, less than lethal weaponry, all things added/being added to aid in non-lethal robbery attempts (amongst other things). (Edited for spelling.)

    Shoot to KILL

KoS does not = Bandit I'm really freaking tired of this prevailing misuse of the terminology. KILL ON SIGHT = Exactly what the words say. It's when you shoot everything standing on 2 legs that passes in front of you. "KoS'rs" are MURDERERS, lazy, griefing, jaded, FPS gamer monkeys trained by Halo/CoD/BF. That is the definition of a KoS'r to ME. If this offends you, than maybe you resemble my remarks (generation Y, I'm looking at you). I've been gaming almost as long as video games have existed. EVERY game that includes a firearm has programmed you from the beginning to shoot everything that moves. MOST players cannot imagine acquiring a firearm in a game and NOT shooting everything ASAP. If you pick and choose who you kill based on gear and perceived intentions you are not a Kos'r. I look forward to a balance in game that makes real banditry more attractive to those who desire an immoral storyline. I stand by my original statement and would like to further add that KoS is about as creative as paint by numbers.

    Forum names = no kos

I've stopped using BioHaze and I probably will never use my Forum name in game again. If I truly confirm you as friendly and we talk for a good long while, I will probably get around to talking about the forum and my involvement there. I have met a few people in the past who I was able to avoid KoS with by dropping my forum name but I'm not sure if they knew me from here or merely respected my plea for a neutral passing.

Eugen Harton @eugenharton Follow Experimental update incoming, No ETA. 12:51 PM - 1 Oct 2014 I wanted to start the discussion topic but apparently I cannot create a topic in the experimental forum.... How did haknslash make the last one? Did Boneboys pull the topic in from another section? Meh.

What is wrong with you people?

I feel like there might be a lot of people who paid 30$ to play now, who won't be interested in DayZ a year or more from now due to the changes that will be implemented as development progresses. Every update sees it's share of people quitting the game out of many forms of frustration and every update sees an influx of new players the majority of which will never stick with DayZ in the long run. I for one, welcome their money now and welcome the balancing that will come with Beta, later.

    Add more sniper tools

I often tell myself that DayZ Forum is in Alpha just like the game. It helps when I open threads full of questions that could be answered if the OP actually followed the development news. Also, if you really want to snipe, with all the modern gadgetry AND have an unrealistic amount of EASE with landing your shot, play a different game. Sorry, no refunds.

Beans. The newest member of Dual Survival uses this to hunt to great effect.

    I am shaking...but!

Slingbow is clever.... That guy was in the original partnership on the Dual Survival show and he was legit. I used "batoning" that I learned from them to cut firewood from large tree limbs with a small knife when I went cyclotouring. Personally, I really like Ed Stafford because he starts with NOTHING and he aims to thrive and not just survive. Back on topic: The lack of snow would have to be said to be inauthentic, I guess. Implementing snow (and possibly snow accumulation) would be really cool, but seems like it would probably be an overcomplicated endeavour in the long run.... oh well.

    I am shaking...but!

Appreciated. An environmental thermometer is a good idea, as well as loosening/opening clothes. That would help save inventory for sure. Simply half opening my barrier layer can often make a very big difference in comfort levels.
