What I expect from BETA Unconscious System

Some of my most intense memories from the early days of the mod were getting knocked out and waking up to infected eating off my body in black and white. I would definitely like to see more types and depth of unconscious states with the DayZ SA health system. Tasers and other less than lethal weapons were discussed in the past by the devs, so we know they have put a fair amount of thought into some aspects of unconsciousness.
  2. Um, you like to say this but the recent weekend long stress test featured nearly 7k players all in game at one point and had queues that were in the 30's. I sat in queue for nearly 30mins from #17 to get into a 1PP server. And there were as many servers up as any experimental build has had in the past. If that's any indication of future participation, servers will be jam packed for Experimental as well....
  3. And some challenges, whether viewed as tedious or not due to play style, will be hardwired into getting started in Vanilla DayZ. Navigation and basic solo survival tactics should be a major component of the core skills of any DayZ enthusiast. Many factors not yet in play will change much of this as well. Bases/camps/stashes and vehicles to name a couple. The people who want to teleport to their friends are usually the same people who can't be bothered to build a fire when standing around in jeans, and a flannel shirt, in freezing rain. If you can't adapt, or lack patience to learn, you're likely playing the wrong game.
  4. FYI - the definition of grinding is not my opinion and your efforts to belittle a challenge as tedious have no place in DayZ. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_(gaming)

Thanks devs/all! I'm excited by the recent progress and look forward to more testing soon.
  7. That implies that your friend would want the game changed just to suit his ideas for this "issue". I wasn't ranting at you, I was elucidating my viewpoint on the topic to everyone in the thread, and I usually agree with most of what you post. Changing DayZ to suit new players, or make the game easier for them, is insulting to those of us who are invested to learn. That was one of my favorite aspects of the mod, simply learning things that we consider basic now.
  8. But you yourself said that he just needs more experience. Adding this for new players robs them of the learning process. I think it's contrary to DayZ game design to have any way to spawn with your friends. If you don't have the time to spend learning the game, you shouldn't be able to reap all the benefits of a player who is well experienced. Every fucking time we get a significant new patch, a new wave of players comes along crying about the same basic stuff that has always been a part of the game. After 6 years of involvement with this game they think they can come along and demand fundamental changes to fit their ideas for the game, completely ignoring the long set standards for how things have been done. "Waaaa, I only have 2 hours play before I have to do homework, why don't they hand me everything so I can just PvP on the coast!" Apparently, "action" (see also PvP) is what a lot of these narrow minded players come to DayZ for that have been mislead by streamers. People who think DayZ should be action all the time, or is centered on PvP, will never understand this game for what it is. I honestly wish these people would just go play Warframe, ARMA3, or CoD.
  9. No, grinding is when you do the same exact thing over and over. Searching the map for your friends is not grinding.
  10. DayZ is pretty frustrating at times. If you learn the basic survival strategies for the build you're playing and have a good grasp of the map, you can meet up from almost anywhere in under 2 hours, and generally much less. Now add in the chance to have a vehicle or a base and meeting becomes easier still. Some times we just have a bad DayZ too... I personally like the challenge of meeting up when we're all fresh and struggling, trading stuff we found and forming plans for places to loot.

    BattleEye client not responding.

I heard a lot of forumers posting how DayZ will not attract new players, DayZ is dead, everyone who would care about DayZ has already heard about it and are over it.... But boy howdy, it seems DayZ attracts noobs with EVERY significant patch still! Go figure!

    Start Walking

I totally disagree. DayZ is very time consuming if you want to experience everything. You should have to do A LOT of walking and searching to find car parts before you can simply cruise around the map looting and picking up friends.

    Start Walking

It seems like many people missed the dev post that said we won't be getting 2 wheeled vehicles in 1.0.
  14. There's your problem. DayZ can't really be enjoyed unless you have 3 or more hours to commit to a session. I was just saying this to someone earlier today.... Vanilla DayZ is a real time commitment and the depth of that commitment makes your character have more and more value. Vanilla DayZ may not appeal to many players and modding will provide them with options that cater to their tastes.
  15. Nothing should be handed to the player in DayZ, imo. Finding your friends, which usually makes surviving easier, should be difficult in vanilla DayZ. This I'm fairly sure of.
  16. Absolutely not. There are many challenges in DayZ and many of them are time consuming. DayZ is NOT an instant gratification game. Maybe a modded version will offer the option to spawn in together.... with a backpack, a gun, food, water, medical supplies, a humvee, and you'll have your PuBG/DayZ clone, and you can play that until your eyes bleed.

I think so. Survival purists seem to prefer 1pp. 3pp was literally labeled as easy mode in Arma 2 and so people who want to feel safe or have less of a challenge will stick with 3pp as a rule. People still refer to 1pp as "hardcore" to this day, and for good reason. It makes detecting the infected and other players more challenging. I know some people get motion sickness (totally valid reason for 3pp) and others like to look at their clothes (open the inventory and spin him around, that's what it's there for) but I think a simulator needs to have standards that reflect the experience desired. In my perfect DayZ world, 3pp is a mod. XD

I just believe that vanilla DayZ should be played in 1pp. 3pp is a completely different game to me. 3pp also breaks immersion for me. I know they won't likely make vanilla 100% 1pp, but I do know the devs agree with me on some level.

A few things I would like to see for vanilla... 1PP, forced No crosshair, forced Dispersion, balanced properly Complete control of keybindings, standard Backpack animations, making you stop to look into your bag on one knee 3 days to death without water when completely sedentary 2 weeks without food when similarly sedentary Increased chance to fail a task like using a fire kit (possibly wasting resources) when, hungry, injured, hot/cold, sick Empty cans for cooking or trip wire alarm Empty bottles for Molotov cocktails Boat crafted from raw materials.... *sigh* I'm still optimistic.

I was so confused when this became apparent. I took it for granted that I would be able to bind any key to any action from the very start. I would also like to see double tap recognized as a binding for any action. Like double tap left arrow key, or double tap right arrow key to lean.

Thanks for all the hard work, Brian! Best of luck in your next endeavor. lol I'm left handed and MUST rebind controls. 10% of people are left handed... YES. Now we're talkin'! Release the hounds!

    Key Mapping/Rebinding For Lefty's!

I am left handed and I struggled to find key bindings that would work properly in offline mode and never found a good solution. This would make participating in stress tests very frustrating, and basically locks me out of the experience as it should be. I also use a left handed mouse and arrow keys, and I use many unusual key bindings for many actions in game. I believe they will eventually allow us to configure any action to any key binding.

Oh man, yes! It was hilarious and terrifying at the same time! Most certainly possessed and desiring blood for the sacrifice. Last one.... "Blackhole Sun, won't you FISH! And wash away the pain.... Blackhole Sun, won't you fish, won't you fish, won't you fish...."

Congrats to @emuthreat! I have a meager 1,254 DayZ screenshots.... but hey, 2 of them have been used on the official twitter in the past! :D Thanks for the information and hard work on stress test 1. I hope I can pitch in on the next few tests. This is one of my favorite screenshots taken on the first day trucks with removable parts were added to experimental. @ColdAtrophy and I spent maybe 6 or 8 hours scouring the map to find usable tires and I seemed to be the only person to figure out that tires had to be attached via the tire holders on the back.... I actually got thanks from redditers, via Tatanko! All that being said, after all of the hard work, the truck barely drove, the rear axle somehow became sunk into the map, and eventually it just burst into flames and died. Good times, good times....
