Also, looking away from the item at your feet, sometimes straight up into the sky/ceiling makes it show in vicinity for me. Medkits seem to show contents properly when on the floor. I don't think this has been fixed in quite a while.... I found some generic 1PP servers that I had not come across that had decent ping which was nice the one I've stuck to has normal seeming loot spawn but hasn't had a single zombie on it! Currently carrying a Mosin with LRS for the first time in a long time and I feel like I have a target on my back. :P

I agree. That's actually why I envisioned a small town sign like Gorka's as a weapon, more practical. Kidding aside; almost everything will have(has?) melee potential in DayZ anyway but also has a real use, so when you think about it, cutting signs is sort of a pointless game mechanic and gimmicky (see also, arcade, again). If pipes in houses are "harvestable" with hacksaw or wrench and usable for pipe bombs or mechanical applications, I imagine the same pipe could be swung as well.....

Tents are pretty badly bugged from what I understand, expect to possibly encounter all sorts of bad things while messing with them.

Only once during the mod after being KoS'd did I have a moment where the rage overpowered me and all I wanted to do was snipe bambi's and KoS. When the adolescent butthurt rage subsided I realized this was a small minded reaction to being KoS'd and that a more noble character as I prefer to play is a far more fun and unique challenge especially considering that FPS PvP can be found in hundreds of other games made specifically for instant FPS PvP gratification. So I mostly don't trust people, but don't shoot first without talking, and I often don't team up with anyone for any period of time unless I truly get a sense that they are not a murderer. All of this will change as the game changes over the next 2 years.

You are way too kind, Shrub. That guy was switching back and forth between teamspeak and DayZ direct, planning your death. Murdering griefers were all those guys were. Stupid and spineless, really. If you ever make it to New York, let me know and I'll meet you at Nintendo World in Rockefeller Center! :)

Unfortunately, I do not believe the game engine will ever support dismemberment. :( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Personally I play a sort of stealthy hermit. 1PP, low pop, cut random paths across the map, hope something random happens, that is fun. I find the PvP exciting but it's not the primary reason I log in. I haven't gone to the military areas in a long time, especially with the addition of more towns in the North. I haven't done a heli specific run since the mod, when you could reliably track and loot them for specific gear. I've heard they are reliably visible now in .52 so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for smoke.... The more development progresses the more our play styles will change as well (I hope).

I killed a combat logger early once. I incidentally trapped a kitted player holding an assault rifle and questioned his intentions through a window, with crosshairs on the back of his head. Next thing I know, without a word he goes into the log out routine. Had he done anything else he would have at least had a chance to live (I don't KoS or go looking for PvP usually). Unfortunately, this is something that has existed since the dawn of online gaming and I've been robbed of satisfaction more than once because a sore loser pulled the plug. DayZ at least has the timer....

I'm sorry to hear this and it's super shitty when it ruins your experience but internal testing cannot catch everything. We are testing on servers under more strain for longer periods. Bugs within bugs will flesh themselves out over time. Remember thou art Alpha and DayZ is done when it's done. Expect things to break and rebreak often for a long time over at least the next year. I sometimes think of the numerous "game breaking" problems the SA has had and how people cried and cried and cried about them and when they get fixed the devs hardly get a written thank you except from a select few of us. And once the bugs are gone, you all soon forget they were ever there until the next one makes people upset. Something of a vicious cycle if you ask me.....

ENO75 At least you seem to understand the current state of the game and all factors involved. It's refreshing to read that at least one new player is paying attention and at least somewhat informed as to how this game will progress. I run fucking laps around the map, all the time. I run semi random paths, even though I know the map well I merely point my self and deal with what I come across as I go.

loot distribution improved in .52?

The loot distribution does seem improved. I have not seen any mega loot or completely empty areas in more than a few hours in this patch. I have seen some doubling of items but that might be intentional/random. -
A bandit robs you. A murderer shoots first and asks questions later. And acting friendly.... to get the drop on someone.... not a new ploy. Glad you made it out without being KoS'd.

Even when this game is finished, I will not get attached to gear. In a game with perma-death there is always going to be a chance that you will lose gear, forever. DayZ Standalone is just over a year old and is doing quite well if you consider all factors. At this time I feel I am not playing DayZ at all because the end result is going to be a drastically different game. I took a long break between the mod and the SA release, and another long break during this Alpha stage to insure that I do not burn out or get overly frustrated with the state of the game. Just adding more zombies and new audio is going to make a huge difference for me.... -

We're still here in the office as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was playing as the sun came up and everything seemed fine. After a brief run from Gorka I reached a new town and realize I cannot open doors or pick up loot. I was really enjoying the dawn.... :(

My usual 1PP server finally came back online and had loot and the game was functioning quite well at about 1/2 full. I had my same old character and was saved near a fairly large prime weapon location. Against my better judgement, I decide to loot this location and have my first encounter with a KoS player in a long time. Without a word he fired on me a few times in close quarters with a rifle (maybe sks), but didn't kill me. Though I had plenty of time to retaliate I admittedly choked and fired 2 rounds into the wall before being finished off. :facepalm: Missing hurts more than the KoS. It had been a while since I drank murderers tears.... Well, we'll call it a "character wipe by proxy" for the new patch.

^^^I was seeing this exact same lag last night on East-02 1PP Experimental but I thought it was due to high pop on server (48/50 at one point).

Spawning in freshie every time new locale, confirmed. Looks like servers are dropping fast too. It's definitely North Korea or Sergei, I blame Sergei.

There's no easily gleened youtube clip but this thread made me think of the landmine/IED under giant Teddy Bear before the sniper scene in Full Metal Jacket.... That's all I got.

Using the LRS as binos is great. RE: NightZ - I believe it's well understood that the current night time simulation is lacking at best. I would love to play in a rich ambient moonlit setting and it hardly ever feels that way currently unless a full moon hangs directly overhead. Maybe this too will change with the new renderer.... Do I hang too much hope on the new renderer? Maybe. *sigh* -

Spawned, immediately ran into "Kait" while looting boats. Followed her for a bit towards elektro but I really had little interest in going there so I quietly parted ways by stopping at Kamyshovo to loot. Found a lot of what I needed there. I had trouble picking up a pair of green cargo pants and morphine that were laying next to each other. Putting the morphine into the pants made me able to get both. I don't really mind playing at night but I do look forward to not needing high gamma to see without a light. I think I remember hearing plans for an improved night time appearance.
