    Experimental Branch: 0.54 Discussion

You're not paying attention if you don't think I get around. Travelling north from there I actually encountered another of the same. I played as much of the mod as the SA likely, I would think my join date spoke for itself.... Found a random police car spawn in neat spot. Because I'm like, not exploring and stuff. Found the NW airfield was stripped clean with a heli in the middle (also looted). I explore a lot ijn random patterns and have made an effort to forget the map in a way since the SA release to preserve an organic/random feel to my experience. I found the tent city and tunnels up north this way right after it was implemented. Stumbled into a fresh heli too recently, not following heli spawn map.... It's more satisfying for me, I don't burn out much this way either. And one day, we may see zombies too. :P

Spawned about as far NE as possible onto an empty 1PP server. Ran the coast to Berezino hoping to get there before the onslaught. I entered the town seeing no zombies and quickly came to the police station. Nearby, I encountered a police car. Berezino had 3 infected that I encountered. I've come across A LOT of ammo but nearly all of the rifles I'm finding are SKS....

^I thought there was no infected or item respawn mechanic in play yet.... maybe my memory is fuzzy on this. People have posted about never ending zombie streams in areas of the map recently but I have not seen this in a long time.

Yay police cars! I was just thinking how much more common these should actually be....

I'm only finding 2 experimental servers up at the moment. A 3rd person East and a UK server. Maybe servers are down for update....

I keep finding myself carrying a longhorn; it's so multi purpose. Currently carrying Repeater and Magnum as well and having no trouble finding rounds. Thanks to working smoke trails I found a heli spawn! 300 round box, mags, mags, mags. Black skull, black M65 (damaged). 2 range finders, a chem light, a green ballistics helmet. ....and 2 pistol grip MP-133's, no assault rifles. :( All this ammo and mags, no rifle to jam them in. Here are some glamor shots.

    Derringer sniping redux

Wow. That bullet drop compensation blind shooting from a short barrel .45. :o Awesome.

Snuck into a town and climbed the fire station I took a look around hoping to see at least a single infected to snipe and to my delight I find I am surrounded by a nice longhorn vs infected shooting gallery! I haven't sniped zombies like that in a long time; was great fun. After killing all I could from this vantage point I cleared the rest of the town with my magnum and looted without care. From the top of the fire station, the sound of the longhorn was not drawing aggro but I think that was just luck based on the distance of my surrounding targets. However, Magnum fire had no problems drawing aggro from the ground floor of a residential building and I ended up with a pile of infected at the door before I left.
  14. Let's play devils advocate here.... Bullet damage is quite different than say a chopper crash. While both are devastating, a piece of gear can be held or positioned during a crash so that it sustains little/no damage. Now put that same piece of gear in a jacket pocket and fire a medium caliber round at it at close range and you'll find quite a bit more damage (especially to optics). 2 tons of crush force is not = to 2 tons of ballistic force, no? Now I would like to see that thing that can withstand 2 tons in your pocket maybe absorbing some of the player damage when it is damaged itself.

^I can't say I don't like that it skips the main menu screen but once I got on the 1pp server using the, Remote entry > Refresh > Connect method, I can launch from the ubiquitous "Play" button at the menu without error (so far). So I'm sticking with it for now.... I also haven't noticed any text regarding BE updates people are talking about but I guess it's possible that I happened to not be looking at the screen when they came up.

    Tag & Release #7 - Hardcore - Capturing a heavily geared player.

Nice to see some people are trying to rob without killing, whatever the reason.

The vertical florescent beacon over the V3S is really weird. The fact that they are made of rubber, even weirder. My compass seemed to work properly, so that's nice. If you found a V3S sitting with it's lights on it might have been me.

The weakest thing you can do

My longest neutral encounters tend to be 5-10 minutes. This helps keep down the chance for anyone bringing in their friends via TS/external chat. I also will never show a strange "friendly" player my back, ever, and if you start making weird requests, I just bolt for the wilderness.

    killing new spawns

The longer you go without becoming a murderer the more satisfying it is when you finally meet another neutral survivor. I try to gain a vantage point when I engage someone new and then I often offer food or a trade if it looks like they have less gear than I or about the same. I always try to speak before firing on another player. This leaves me open to a variety of experiences and sometimes leads to me getting attacked or killed.

Normally I would never follow the coast but considering the lack of players I felt safe. There were unlooted towns and a few chances to fight infected when I originally spawned. Kamishovo had enough in it so a fresh spawn could lap the map a couple times with nothing lacking. Unfortunately, the town also had 0 infected..... Edit: Also saw a lot of what I'm guessing is loot doubling or xmas loot spawn of some kind maybe. Many of the same item or same type of item all in a pile. I thought I had a screenshot of where I found 6 maps near a book shelf but apparently I do not. N,SE,W,W,NW,NW - so I took none.

Swam to an island with a castle on it. Communications tower had repeater and crossbow. The game is running well in general for me. I had a glitch moving a canteen from jacket to backpack that produced a dupe that was sort of tied to the original item. I double click the original and the dupe disappeared and then I was able to move the item. I'm pretty sure I saw a similar bug in the last couple patches as well.

I just added details to the remote tab AND refreshed the remote tab to show the servers in the list and was able to join and play without problems. No launch parameters needed. Using the garden hoe, if you continue to hold the hoe after swinging it and walk around, the swinging sound will play even when not swinging. Putting the hoe away stopped the sound glitch. Need more tea before I play again, it's brutally cold in old New York today....

    Status Report - 17 Feb 15

All of the cars I've owned were manual transmission, by choice. In my experience, you can skip gears with some types of gear boxes. I knew a guy who abused his poor Jeep Cherokee (see also couldn't drive) and would often start it in 2nd gear and drop the clutch and skip gears often. It was amazing how the car held up... That being said, you should probably be able to wind out 1st and bog into 3rd on a level or downhill road, stalling with any uphill resistance. Trying to skip gears though, in most low speed conditions, should probably stall a large diesel engine and should be something someone could do accidentally if they weren't paying attention or were careless about spamming keys. I guess my point is, it would be authentic to have a mechanic for stalling if the shifting process is botched somehow.
