Starting COOP community on a new server

Couldn't agree more. The AI bandits are the other non-player threat, and yes, once you are armed and supplied it is easy to get the drop on even them. The kicker here is that I plan on making it quite hard to reach that point where you are 'fully' armed and supplied. Yes, on a vanilla server it is easy to accumulate supplies, but I will be tweaking loot tables and spawn drops to 'compensate' for the passage of time after a place is abandoned (you know, within reason. I have only a few players right now so I am leaving it be until I actually get some people to hang around in order to observe the changing setting). I am taking a realism approach (yes I know, it's not easy to simulate realism in a video game based on a zombie apocalypse!) to the Chernarus situation and allowing people to play through it as if their goal WAS to literally rebuild humanity in the area. As mentioned, already vehicles do not respawn automatically, loot will become scarcer in the future, bandits will get tougher, etc. This server will evolve based on the needs of the players, and if that need encompasses PvP, then we certainly will. Imagine performing a harrowing trade for supplies with a bandit group! Will they double-cross and hope for a massive payout in lieu of future trades?? Will they short-change or ROB you?? Noone knows! Play and see! Hopefully we get some players who are mature enough to take this sort of approach to banditry, because any smart bandit knows that killing the guy who loots stuff for you is a bad business decision. As another slightly-related point, my gaming buds are being very stubborn when it comes to playing DayZ, so more often than not I am flying solo in this game. You could call this server an attempt to round up some more peeps!

I'll be honest, the two primary reasons are that I am 1) horrible at PvP and 2)prefer to shoot the shit with my gaming buddies than 'do hardcore gaming'. I see video gaming as a pleasant way to waste some time, like most hobbies, and that the best way to really enjoy wasting time is to do it with others and have fun while doing so. I do play my share of PvP, but I am more of an RTS PVPer than an FPS one (not saying that I am any better at it, of course :D). I like the No-PvP approach to this particular game because I feel that it attracts like-minded individuals. If I could join a game and shoot the shit with everyone and really enjoy myself despite dying every few minutes, well that'd be no problem, but that sort of opportunity is rare. In the future, this server may well become a RP-style PvP server, because being at odds with someone you are forced to live with everyday is the ultimate survival challenge! In-game systems will likely enforce this, by perhaps forcing robbery instead of outright killing (perhaps player corpses disappear within 1 second ... noone would want the prey to die!).

Bumpity. I am still getting warmed up with the server too, so there is also a great chance the first community members will get a LOT of influence on how the server develops!
  4. Hello everyone, I recently got a NoPvP server started (IP: 72.5.102.170:2302 ) and am looking for more survivors to join me. There will be lots of messing around to be sure, but there will be lots of ways to keep entertained as well! There is also a TS3 server available for use. See here for more information on this server: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/137453-survivalistgamingfreeforumsorg-1761103419regular-nopvp-ai-bandits-novehrespawn-autorefuel-selfbloodbag-streetlights-8hourcycle/
  5. Server name: SurvivalistGaming IP: 72.5.102.170:2302 Loc=US-Denver, Diff=Regular, Map=Chernarus, Slots=40, TZ=off, 3DP=on, CH=on, NP=on, DM=on, SC=on(at the moment), PW=no, WL=yes Contact: http://survivalistgaming.freeforums.org (sorry about the crappy free forum, a website is in the works...) Server is taking a non-enforced RP approach to DayZ (players are welcome to play and ignore the thematic elements). Starts with the 'Post-Day-Z' feel, you are a well-equipped remnant of the military who has chosen to stay behind after the military has abandoned Chernarus to the zeds. Bandits are poorly equipped but numerous, and lootable items are common (a la vanilla-DayZ). As time progresses, bandits will become more skilled, all types of weapons and loot in general will become rarer, and individual survivors who take on 'professions' can greatly increase the survival chances for the community. In the future, the server may migrate to a new mod, a new map (or possibly both), taking the community with it to create more good times! Events in the meantime will include admin-driven events such as programmed hotspots around new or rare loot (such as bonus vehicles or weapons), mini-games among survivors for bragging rights, and stat-driven progression to obtain rare equipment and consumables for your characters (that you -could- loot for if you don't want to take part in the events, of course). Vehicles do not respawn [with rare exception], and there are AI bandits about, so be extra careful in the daytime! Server has three 8-hour 'days' of 3am-11am each, first cycle sync'ed with MST. TeamSpeak3 server is available. Sign up for the whitelist today!
  6. If someone joins your server and is killed by another player (not by zombies or terrain/glitches), is there a restoration of the killed player from the most recent save? I dislike spending most of my night finding loot and crawling around zombies to avoid detection only to get sniped as soon as I clear the town. :(
  7. Has this hive died off?? The website is currently down and noone is bumping this thread anymore...

    Life appreciation

First off, I have never played any game that took 30 minutes to respawn, much less any longer. Worst I can think of is 5 minutes, and that first 5 minutes is just enough for a bathroom break but the second 5 minutes is just a headache. Any longer and you lose players, plain as that. I would scratch the idea of a timer off the list, but I -do- think that you should have some hard choices to make when you die. If you die, you can choose to respawn immediately and with normal new-survivor gear at a random location (excluding the 3 closest spawn locations), OR, to respawn closer to your death location (i.e. closest spawn location), but with a brief respawn timer (2 minutes for survivors, 4 for bandits) and they will respawn either with no weapon or no ammo. Survivors(bandits) should like this, because often they will die to zombies(survivors/other bandits) and would prefer to rejoin close by and try to reclaim their goodies, or they may die to something more intimidating and would wish to spawn further away. The timer is to prevent people getting bumrushed by vengeful players (and we all know that bandits are slightly more aggressive about reclaiming stuff from others), with the weapon/or/ammo bit thrown in as the price for respawning closer.
  9. Skip the pathing, the line of sight, the chase distance, and just add the melee attack. To prevent someone abusing the melee attack to clear out a town though, maybe have a few requirements: -need a cheap melee weapon (which takes up 4+ inventory slots when not equipped, just to deter hoarding them) -cheap melee weapon will break after a random number of uses (that axe you just picked up .. does it have a good 100 whacks remaining? or is it only good for getting stuck in one last zombie skull?) -when attacking, chance to possibly create not-too-loud noises (not so loud as a gunshot, but not quiet either. think maybe the sound of someone running) -when the weapon breaks, it makes a loud noise (almost akin to a gunshot. oh look, your weapon JUST broke, and now you aggroed a bunch of zombies!)
  10. I have some fellow survivors who regularly team up on one of a few servers, but strangely enough, I can never see any of these servers. The servers in question are primarily EU11 and up, with the exception of EU16 and perhaps a few others. I found the following site, and noticed that ALL the servers that I can't see are the ones that do NOT have a flag icon next to them! A clue perhaps? http://arma2.swec.se/server/list?page=4 Any ideas? Went and checked, determined that I could see EU10, EU16, and EU19 but no others (from that linked list, the ones with blank flag icons). Not sure if that makes any difference. Also according to that same linked site, the ones I have issues seeing all start with the same 2 octets [5.9.x.x] and are hosted by olutta.org. Other servers hosted by olutta.org that I can see just fine are EU6 and EU9, but those IPs start with [88.198.x.x]. Any of you network whizzes out there have any ideas on this one??
